Tissue transplant will soon be done in state-run hospitals: Mizoram Health minister

Aizawl: Mizoram Health Minister Lalrinpuii on Monday said that tissue transplant will soon be done in government-run hospitals, which will mark a new chapter in the state's medical science. Inaugurating a free health check-up for scribes at the state's largest hospital - Aizawl Civil Hospital , Lalrinpuii said that a Cardiology operation theatre or Cath Lab is being installed in the civil hospital to facilitate several health facilities, which were not previously available. She said that kidney transplantation will also soon be possible in the Aizawl Civil Hospital as a designated operation theatre has been installed and license has been already obtained from the Centre. Initially, surgeons or experts from outside the state will conduct kidney transplants to train local surgeons, she said. Lalrinpuii said that an operation theatre is also being installed at the state's Zoram Medical College and Hospital (ZMCH) at Falkawn near Aizawl to facilitate open heart surgery, which will relieve people of financial burden. While an open heart surgery costs Rs 8 lakh in private hospitals, it will cost only about Rs 1.5 lakh at ZMCH, she said. The health minister also hailed Mizoram Universal Health Care Scheme (MUHCS), which was implemented on the first April, as one of the best healthcare schemes ever introduced in the state. In just a month of its implementation, the new healthcare scheme has greatly benefited the people, she claimed. The minister also urged non-salaried families or non-government employees to register under the healthcare scheme to avail health insurance of Rs 5 lakh cover per family per year. She said that a simplifying referral system has also been developed to ease the referral system of patients to empanelled hospitals outside Mizoram. Under the MUHCS, beneficiaries are provided with health cover of Rs 5 lakh per family per year for cashless treatment at government hospitals and empanelled private hospitals and church-run hospitals. General beneficiaries can register for the healthcare scheme with a minimum fee or premium of Rs 2,500 for cashless treatment in general ward, Rs 5,000 for cashless treatment in semi-private ward or semi-cabin and Rs 10,000 for cashless treatment in private ward or cabin. Government employees, including contractual and muster-roll, are required to pay a monthly contribution ranging from Rs 200 to Rs 1,500 depending on their pay scales to avail unlimited health cover. Civil pensioners will pay a monthly contribution of Rs 500 to Rs 1,000 to avail cashless treatment in private ward and semi-private ward with heath cover of Rs 5 lakh to Rs 12 lakh. Beneficiaries or golden card holders under the Centre's AB PM-JAY scheme need not pay registration fees under MUHCS.

With no ration cards, Mizoram families unable to avail health scheme

Aizawl: A plethora of families in Mizoram cannot register themselves in the newly-launched Mizoram Universal Health Care Scheme (MUHCS) because of the inability of the state food, civil supplies & consumer affairs (FCS&CA) department to issue ration cards for months due to technical challenges. FCS&CA department officials said ration cards could not be issued to a large number of applicants due to the Centre deactivating the Ration Card Management System (RCMS). "The central government is undertaking a new project called SMART-PDS by amalgamating three softwares in use — RCMS, FEAST and AePDS while RCMS has already been deactivated. Due to this exercise, all these softwares are no longer in use resulting in the department being unable to process family ration cards," a senior department official said on Wednesday. The official said the department could no longer issue ration cards for some time and they do not know how long it will take to restore the entire system. "We are hoping that the system will be restored soon, but we cannot say when," he said. Family rations cards being one of the compulsory documents for registration in the MUHCS, a number of families in the state still cannot register themselves under the cashless health care scheme launched by the Mizoram govt on April 1. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Click Here To Read More - micro segmentation software Expertinspector Click Here Undo "The state govt's deadline for registration under the MUHCS is June 30 and we do not know when we can have our ration card by that time," said Lalmawii, a resident of Aizawl. Mizoram boosts public healthcare as MUHCS rollout gathers pace

Aizawl, May 9 (UNI) The Mizoram government has ramped up healthcare infrastructure and personnel in its public hospitals as part of its efforts to effectively implement the Mizoram Universal Health Care Scheme (MUHCS), Health & Family Welfare Minister Lalrinpuii said on Friday. Speaking at a performance review meeting on the ongoing MUHCS implementation, the minister said that significant strides had been made in both human resources and infrastructure development. A total of 300 nurses and 100 multitask workers have been newly recruited to bolster frontline services, while appointments of X-ray and laboratory technicians, as well as a public relations officer, have been completed. Recruitment for an additional 100 health workers is currently in progress. Several primary health centres (PHCs) and sub-centres will also be upgraded through funding secured from the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), she added. Lalrinpuii informed the gathering that work on the much-anticipated cancer super-speciality hospital is proceeding swiftly with financial support from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). In parallel, 10 new intensive care units (ICUs) are being established at Zoram Medical College & Hospital, alongside the development of a cardio-thoracic and neurosurgery unit to expand critical care capacity. The state is also laying the groundwork for setting up a renal transplant facility at Aizawl Civil Hospital, a move expected to significantly enhance treatment options for kidney patients within Mizoram. Since the official launch of MUHCS on April 1, the state government has disbursed over Rs 2.59 crore to various empanelled hospitals offering cashless services under the scheme. These payments cover the treatment of 2,943 patients. Lalrinpuii noted that bills worth Rs 4.11 crore have already been approved after scrutiny but are yet to be paid, while 490 additional treatment bills are still in the process of being settled. However, a major challenge to the scheme's broader implementation remains. A significant number of private and mission-run hospitals have refused to join the MUHCS network, citing apprehensions over potential financial losses. Despite this setback, the government remains committed to expanding access to quality healthcare and is steadily reinforcing the public health system to meet the growing demand under the scheme. ZPM's health scheme won't benefit people: Mizoram AAP

Aizawl: The Mizoram unit of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has lamented that the Mizoram Universal Health Care Scheme (MUHCS), launched from April 1 by the current Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) govt, cannot benefit majority of the common people in the state. In a meeting with state governor Gen VK Singh on Thursday, AAP leaders informed the former that the MUHCS cannot be utilised by a large majority of the poor section of the society and expressed desire that the state govt should pay attention to the sufferings of the people. They said the common people are in limbo as a large majority of the private and church-run hospitals under the umbrella Non-Govt Hospital Association of Mizoram (NGHAM) have failed to join the cashless healthcare scheme as designed by the state govt. They appealed to the governor to intervene in the matter. Singh said he takes interest in what the AAP leaders told him and that he will immediately take steps in the matter, a press release issued by the party said. "While the ZPM had promised to undertake all the schemes after conducting thorough research, the visit of Thailand by health minister and officials to study the healthcare scheme there indicates that the state govt is still unprepared to launch the healthcare scheme," the AAP leaders said. They accused the ZPM administration, headed by chief minister, of cheating the people by not fulfilling their electoral promises made during the hustings in 2023.
