ZPM's health scheme won't benefit people: Mizoram AAP
Aizawl: The Mizoram unit of
Aam Aadmi Party
(AAP) has lamented that the
Mizoram Universal Health Care Scheme
(MUHCS), launched from April 1 by the current
Zoram People's Movement
(ZPM) govt, cannot benefit majority of the common people in the state.
In a meeting with state governor Gen VK Singh on Thursday, AAP leaders informed the former that the MUHCS cannot be utilised by a large majority of the poor section of the society and expressed desire that the state govt should pay attention to the sufferings of the people.
They said the common people are in limbo as a large majority of the private and church-run hospitals under the umbrella Non-Govt Hospital Association of Mizoram (NGHAM) have failed to join the
cashless healthcare scheme
as designed by the state govt. They appealed to the governor to intervene in the matter.
Singh said he takes interest in what the AAP leaders told him and that he will immediately take steps in the matter, a press release issued by the party said.
"While the ZPM had promised to undertake all the schemes after conducting thorough research, the visit of Thailand by health minister and officials to study the healthcare scheme there indicates that the state govt is still unprepared to launch the healthcare scheme," the AAP leaders said.
They accused the ZPM administration, headed by chief minister, of cheating the people by not fulfilling their electoral promises made during the hustings in 2023.

Delhi govt sets up committee to fast-track Covid-19 compensation
New Delhi: Delhi govt has formed a group of ministers (GOM) to expedite and examine the compensation process for families who lost loved ones during the Covid-19 pandemic. A senior official said on Wednesday that the committee will address pending claims and identify families still awaiting financial assistance. Chief minister Rekha Gupta had earlier stated that many bereaved families did not receive the compensation promised during the pandemic. "To address this, a special committee has been formed to identify such cases and provide financial support," she said. The senior official said that the GOM is expected to meet in early June. Officials from the revenue, health, and other departments will present individual cases to the committee, which will then analyse the details and decide on the compensation disbursement. Speaking in the Delhi Assembly earlier this year, the chief minister claimed that only 97 families had received financial assistance from the previous AAP-led administration. Official data shows that over 26,700 people in Delhi died due to Covid-related complications. In 2021, the then-AAP govt launched the Mukhyamantri Covid-19 Pariwar Aarthik Sahayata Yojana , promising Rs 50,000 as ex gratia to the next of kin of every Covid victim, along with an additional Rs 2,500 monthly support if the deceased was the sole breadwinner of the family. Families were also eligible for a one-time Rs 50,000 ex gratia from the Delhi Disaster Response Fund (DDRF). Meanwhile, the capital has recorded two more Covid-related deaths in the past 48 hours, raising this year's toll to three. Delhi has logged 81 new infections since Friday, and the current active caseload stands at 375. "Nineteen patients are currently admitted to hospitals, while others are recovering at home," said Gupta, adding, "There's no reason for the public to panic. The govt is fully prepared." The objective behind this is to provide comprehensive primary healthcare to the residents, similar to the 'Mohalla Clinics' initiative of the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government. The Rekha Gupta government's focus here is to provide better primary health services to the urban population. The government is paying special attention to ensure that people get better health services. In the first phase, 33 Arogya Mandir will be built in the city. People will be able to avail health services from 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM at these facilities. Family planning counselling People will be able to get 14 different types of tests done here, with all of them being made available free of cost. Interestingly, patients will not have to wait for their reports for a long time, as they will be made available in just 30 minutes. Also, parents will be able to get their children vaccinated at these centres. A total of 79 types of tests can be done free of cost in Arogya Mandir through outsourcing. Apart from these, people will be provided with family planning counselling at the centres. Moreover, there will be two yoga classes per week. Mohalla Clinics: Treatment for common diseases only Unlike the all-new Arogya Mandir, the Mohalla Clinics of the former Delhi government used to provide treatment for common illnesses like fever, cough and flu only. The previous AAP government in Delhi started this concept in October 2015. The objective of this flagship healthcare scheme of Arvind Kejriwal was to provide free and easy treatment to the general public. Besides medical consultation, free medicines are also made available in these clinics. These facilities also provided vaccination for children, while certain tests were also made available. In total, there are over 500 Mohalla Clinics in Delhi that give information regarding the prevention of diseases to the patients.
