MoHE introduces COPPA to align higher education with job market needs

KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) has introduced the Code of Practice for Programme Accreditation (COPPA) to serve as a benchmark for designing academic programmes that align with current job market requirements. Deputy Higher Education Minister Datuk Mustapha Sakmud stated that COPPA mandates higher education institutions to conduct market demand and graduate employability analyses before approving new programmes. 'For programmes regulated by professional bodies, their introduction must also comply with criteria set by the Joint Technical Committee to ensure adherence to the Malaysian Qualifications Framework. 'Once launched, these programmes undergo periodic reviews and evaluations to ensure continuous improvement,' he said during the Dewan Rakyat session. The initiative addresses concerns raised by Jimmy Puah Wee Tse (PH–Tebrau) regarding the mismatch between university courses and job market demands, which has forced graduates into unrelated fields with lower wages. Mustapha added that MoHE collaborates with key agencies, including the Human Resources Ministry, PERKESO, Talent Corporation Malaysia Berhad, Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation, and LinkedIn Malaysia, to better address workforce needs. Additional initiatives like CEO@Faculty, CEO@PolyCC, Industry on Campus, and the Structured Internship Programme further bridge the gap between academia and industry expectations. – Bernama

All pre-university pathways to be placed under Higher Education Ministry

KUALA LUMPUR: Plans are in motion to bring all pre-university pathways, including Form Six, under the Higher Education Ministry (MoHE), says Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir. "The government is currently planning to place everything under the ministry, including Form Six," the Higher Education Minister said, adding that implementation is expected either next year or the following year. Zambry said this during the "In Person with Doc Zam" session, which was livestreamed as part of Universiti Malaya's Week-of-Welcome for the 2025/2026 academic session on Thursday (July 17). He was responding to a student's question on why foundation studies (Asasi) fall under under his ministry while Form Six remains under the Education Ministry. MoE offers support to scholarship applicants via ‘Guide Me' campaign

MoE offers support to scholarship applicants via 'Guide Me' campaign Initiative aims to streamline registration procedures KUWAIT: The Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) has announced the provision of immediate technical assistance to students encountering difficulties in uploading required documents or arranging preferences as part of the registration process for the 2025-2026 external scholarship program. In a press statement, the ministry said it has allocated specific dates to receive students facing such technical challenges, starting from Sunday until Thursday. Students can visit the ministry's headquarters at Al-Sanabel Tower in Kuwait City from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm during this period. The initiative is part of the second (guidance) phase of the national campaign 'Wajihni' ('Guide Me'), which aims to streamline registration procedures and support students by addressing technical issues with the electronic system - whether related to document submission, preference arrangement, or meeting eligibility requirements for specializations and universities. Campaign organizers emphasized the importance of visiting the headquarters within the specified timeframe, especially as the July 3 deadline for scholarship registration approaches. They urged all eligible students to take advantage of this free service designed to enhance data accuracy and ensure successful registration within the deadline. The 'Guide Me' campaign is considered a key awareness initiative by the ministry to assist students planning to study abroad by offering both technical and human support. It reflects the ministry's continued efforts to simplify registration procedures in accordance with scholarship regulations. The MoHE launched the 'Guide Me' campaign for the fourth consecutive year in early May through its official social media platforms. The campaign targets Kuwaiti students who recently graduated from high school, including those holding foreign high school diplomas earned inside or outside Kuwait, and who meet the academic criteria for overseas study in the upcoming academic year. — KUNA

PM Anwar urges MoHE, UMS not to disrupt students' studies over caricature

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has directed the Higher Education Ministry (MoHE) and Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) to ensure students involved in a recent anti-corruption protest face no academic repercussions. The rally, which included burning a caricature resembling Anwar, was held as part of the Gempur Rasuah Sabah 2.0 event last Saturday. Tunku Nashrul Abaidah, Senior Press Secretary to the Prime Minister, stated during the PMO briefing that the students' actions should be seen as a bold expression of youth voices on integrity and corruption. He highlighted that the burning of the caricature symbolized a call for reform, a principle Anwar, as a former student activist, strongly supports. 'The Prime Minister understands the students' perspective, having once led reformist demonstrations himself. He views criticism, even if harsh, as vital to democracy,' Tunku Nashrul said. The Suara Mahasiswa UMS group organized the rally, marching through Kota Kinabalu with placards addressing Sabah's corruption and water supply issues. The event included setting fire to a caricature of Anwar, sparking discussions on freedom of expression. Tunku Nashrul reiterated the government's commitment to reform, emphasizing that anti-corruption efforts will continue systematically for the nation's prosperity.
