Mobile Police Cruiser crashes on Saint Stephens Road

MOBILE, Ala (WKRG) – Mobile Police are investigating a crash that involved a police cruiser early Sunday morning on Saint Stephens Road and Lafayette Road just around 4:30 a.m. At the scene, a police vehicle was damaged on the front passenger side and it had run off the roadway onto the sidewalk. It appeared that two other civilian vehicles were involved. A white pickup truck ended up in a parking lot. A small grey sedan was sitting on Saint Stephens Road with its front bumper torn off and windshield damaged. It's not clear how badly anyone was hurt. The driver of the sedan seemed very shaken up and said she was just traveling to her destination when the crash happened. Images taken by WKRG show multiple officers investigating the scene, along with a fire-rescue vehicle. Officials didn't say how the incident occurred. Mobile Police were also on the scene at Phat Tuesday Sports Bar early this morning on Saint Stevens Road. That is less than a mile away from where the Mobile Police cruiser crashed. It's not clear what, if any, connection this has to the crash. A number of police cruisers were in the parking lot of the bar and officers were talking to people nearby. We've reached out to Mobile Police for more information and are waiting to hear back. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. 'Homemade Houseboat' removed from Dog River in Mobile

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — City officials continue their efforts to remove old boats and big pieces of debris from waterways around Mobile. Friday evening the Mobile Police Department posted images of a crew removing a 'homemade houseboat' from Dog River. The post says this was the 14th vessel removed from Dog River since the start of a program to try and make local waterways safer. In March of last year, the city launched a program to remove derelict boats and docks from area waterways. In 2020 the Mobile Police Department identified several boats, docks, piers, or boathouses that will be removed. The program is funded by a grant from NOAA, sending $460,000 to the effort. The Mobile Police Department didn't say how long the houseboat had been abandoned but indicated it had been sitting in the water 'for a long time.' Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. 'Ceasefire Sunday' continues decade of bringing Mobile communities together through kickball

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — Mobile Police and members of the community team up to bring peace through a kid's sport. 'Everybody out here trying to just enjoy life and have a safe and peaceful day,' Kickball president Robert Williams said. Organized by Mobile Public Safety and community members, 'Ceasefire Sunday' is a kickball tournament at Doyle Park, bringing together teams from different parts of Mobile like the Campground area, Orange Grove, and Roger Williams. 'So that people come together and coexist with the police force to have a good time,' Dwight Williams with Ceasefire Sundays said. Organizers say this is a chance to bring people together with public safety officials. 'I hope that people can see the policemen and firemen are regular people when they come out here. They want to visit. And this is what we're trying to show because we're trying to understand it. How can you police the area and you don't know anyone in the community?' Williams said. It's a day of peace with some serious play. 'Because they wanted to show that there are different neighborhoods in this part that they can come together and have a good time like a community should be,' MPD Sgt. Nathaniel McCarty said. Sunday's game included teams from Mobile Police and fire, as well as community resources like USA Health, with people making a day of it at the park. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
