Potso Mohami's rise as a Powerhouse in women's football administration
SEDIBENG.- This week, Sedibeng Ster shines the spotlight on the remarkable journey of one of the Vaal's most influential women in football administration, Potso Mohami. From the dusty streets of Bophelong to the international stage, her story is one of passion, determination, and breaking barriers in a sport still largely dominated by men.
When she started as an intern at SAFA, little did she know that one day she would be one of the powerhouse women football administrators to have come from this region. She was introduced by the then-president, Dr. Molefi Oliphant, who immediately recognised her potential.
What started as a learning opportunity soon became a calling, and today, Mohami stands among the most respected football administrators in South Africa and across the continent. Currently in Kenya as one of CAF's general coordinators, co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, Mohami continues to carry the SAFA flag high at major continental tournaments.
From the CAF Women's Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco to countless men's and women's competitions across Africa, her footprint in the game is undeniable. Mohami grew up in a football family. Not only that, for example, her late father, Bra Mojo, was the Bafana Bafana kit manager.
Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport from Kenya, Mohami said she will forever be grateful to be part of SAFA. She said she has learned a lot about football since joining SAFA. 'I was lucky that I grew up in a football family, and it ran in my blood. Our home was a clubhouse, and this is how I developed an interest in football.'
