TAWAU: A man suspected of smuggling was detained by the Marine Police (PPM) at about 2.20am on Friday after a high-speed attempt to evade arrest from Lahad Datu to Kunak and into this district. PPM Region Four Commander ACP Mohammad Nazri Ibrahim said the operation led to the seizure of 678,400 sticks of various brands of cigarettes and a white van, worth over RM1 million in total.

Nazri said the arrest was made after the van, pursued by the Marine Elite Force (Ungerin) and Marine Intelligence Unit (URM) for about 200km from Silam, lost control and hit a tree in Kampung Titingan. Police from the Kunak and Tawau district headquarters assisted PPM in the chase, which was captured in a one-minute-13-second video shared on PPM Sabah's official Facebook page. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
