Pontian cops nab 14 allegedly involved in gang fight
PONTIAN: The police have arrested 14 men aged from 13 to 25, were arrested by police for allegedly being involved in a fight where a male victim was injured. Pontian OCPD Supt Mohammad Shofee Tayib said the suspects were apprehended after the victim's brother lodged a police report claiming his sibling had been beaten up. "We received the report at 4.23pm on Sunday (Aug 10) and the victim has been admitted to Pontian Hospital for treatment," he said in a statement on Monday (Aug 11). Supt Mohammad Shofee said that the police have opened an investigation paper and the case is being investigated under Section 427, Section 148 and Section 326 of the Penal Code. "We would like to remind the public to refrain from spreading and sharing the video or information of the fight which is yet to be verified," he said. The 18 local men, aged between 17 and 48, have been detained in connection with the brawl. Police have opened investigation papers under Section 148 and Section 427 of the Penal Code related to rioting and mischief. Serious Charges Filed as Police Seek Public Cooperation Section 148 carries a penalty of up to five years imprisonment or a fine, or both, while Section 427 provides for imprisonment of up to two years or a fine, or both. 'Preliminary investigations found that the brawl started when a group was dissatisfied with the alcohol prices offered during the auction at the event,' the police chief explained. Pontian District Police emphasised they will not compromise on criminal behaviour, particularly involving fights or riots that can disturb public peace and safety. Pontian cops find drugs on foreigner after brief pursuit
PONTIAN: Drugs were round on a foreigner when he was arrested after trying to evade a police patrol. Pontian OCPD Supt Mohammad Shofee Tayib said the male suspect, who was driving a white car, refused to stop when approached by policemen at 10pm on Wednesday (June 25). "Our men ordered him to stop but he sped off," he said. Supt Mohammad Shofee said the suspect and a female passenger, also a foreigner, were finally intercepted at a traffic light intersection on Jalan Sungai Gurap. He said upon inspection, police discovered two packets containing 7.94g and 0.65g of methamphetamine respectively. "Both suspects did not possess valid travel documents nor identifications," he said in a statement on Thursday (June 26). The case is being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code, Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act, Section 39(A)(1) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952 and Section 42 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Police nab foreign duo caught after high-speed chase, seize meth
PONTIAN: An attempt by two foreigners to evade a police inspection failed when they were apprehended following a 15-kilometre chase, leading to the seizure of drugs believed to be methamphetamine last night. District police chief, Superintendent Mohammad Shofee Tayib, said the incident occurred at about 10pm when the driver of a car refused to stop after being ordered to pull over by a police mobile patrol unit along Jalan Kampung Parit Haji Othman, Seri Bunian, for inspection. He said the driver ignored the order and instead sped off towards Jalan Kampung Tenggayon, prompting a police pursuit that stretched for approximately 15 kilometres. "Police managed to stop the vehicle at the traffic lights along Jalan Sungai Gurap. "Upon inspection, the car was found to be driven by a male foreigner, accompanied by a female passenger, also a foreign national," he said in a statement today. Mohammad Shofee said further checks led to the discovery of two transparent plastic packets believed to contain methamphetamine, weighing 7.94g and 0.65g, inside the suspects' vehicle. He added that both suspects failed to produce any valid identification documents. The case is being investigated under the Penal Code, the Immigration Act, the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and the Road Transport Act 1987.
