Indian expat jailed and deported for fatal crash in Liwa
Suhar, North Batinah – An Indian national, Mohammed Faras, has been sentenced to two years in prison and permanent deportation after causing a fatal crash by driving on the wrong side of the road in the Wilayat of Liwa. The incident resulted in the deaths of four people and left 15 others injured. The Primary Court found Faras guilty of reckless driving at high speed, endangering lives and property, and deliberately driving against traffic on a divided road. He was sentenced to two years for the first offence and three months for the second, to be served concurrently, with the longer sentence taking precedence. In addition, his driving licence has been revoked for one year, and the court has ordered the publication of the verdict in both Arabic and Hindi. The Public Prosecution revealed that Faras drove his vehicle against the flow of traffic, colliding with multiple vehicles, leading to the tragic casualties. He has also been ordered to cover legal expenses. Authorities have warned motorists of the severe consequences of reckless driving, urging strict adherence to traffic regulations to prevent such tragedies.

Muscat: In a recent ruling by the Primary Court in the state of Liwa, Mohammed Faras, an Indian national, has been convicted for reckless driving that led to a fatal accident. The incident that occurred on May 28 last year resulted in the deaths of four individuals and injuries to 15 others. The truck, driving in the opposite direction of the road, collided with 11 vehicles. Faras was found guilty of two offenses: driving at high speed in a dangerous manner that endangered lives and property, and intentionally driving against the direction of traffic on a divided road. The tragic incident resulted in the death of four individuals and left fifteen others with injuries ranging from moderate to severe, in addition to significant material damage. The court sentenced him to two years in prison for the first offense and three months in prison for the second offense, ruling that the penalties be merged, with the lesser punishment absorbed into the harsher one, and only the harsher penalty to be enforced. Additionally, his driving license was revoked for one year, the judgment was ordered to be published in both Arabic and Hindi, and he was permanently deported from the country after serving his sentence. He was also ordered to pay the judicial costs. Investigations by the Public Prosecution revealed that the convicted individual drove his vehicle against the direction of traffic and collided with several vehicles, resulting in the death of four people and injuries to fifteen others, with injuries ranging from severe to moderate.
