Sharjah Ruler: Identity key to society, heritage a national duty
His Highness explained that the Arabic word "Zubarah" refers to "building," and describes stones stacked atop one another. He urged citizens to contribute positively to their homeland, uphold their religious and societal duties, and maintain national unity. Additionally, he advised the public to steer clear of unnecessary disputes on social media, calling for responsible digital engagement. Sharjah Ruler explains meaning of 'Al Zubarah' on live broadcast His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, shared an insightful explanation of the word 'Al Zubarah' during a telephone interview on the "Direct Line" programme, broadcast on Sharjah Broadcasting Authority. Speaking with media personality Mohammed Hassan Khalaf, Director General of the Authority, His Highness responded to a public inquiry about the term. 'Someone asked about the meaning of the word 'Al Zubarah', so I would like to clarify that in Arabic, 'Al Zubarah' means 'building.' Stones that are stacked on top of each other are referred to as 'Zabarah.' For example, the phrase 'Zabar Al Bi'r' means 'to place a stone inside (the well).'' Identity is the Foundation of Community Formation His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah added: "We care about heritage, whether tangible, such as antiquities; or intangible things like chants, songs, music, and traditional dance. People will only be able to preserve their heritage through practice. We want to preserve this heritage in the hearts of our children and not allow them to forget it. This can only be achieved through practice, which children will witness and from which they will gain this knowledge. This practice is an educational process, and identity is the foundation of society. A society without identity has no roots. God willing, we will reach a stage where every individual will be responsible for protecting their community—starting with preserving and defending the environment, as well as protecting society from gossip, vices, abominations, and anything foreign. The individual's responsibility begins at home, extends to the neighbourhood in which they live, and reaches the country and the nation." Giving back to the nation His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, concluded his speech with fatherly advice to his children, saying: "We tell our sons and daughters that this society is a trust, so give yourselves the opportunity to give back to the nation, starting with kind words and avoiding bad language." Stop the social media squabbling, elevate yourselves, don't be imitators, and protect your country, from which your fathers came and in whose soil your grandfathers are buried. God willing, all of our future generations will be aware of their religious, national, and societal responsibilities.

Sharjah Ruler: Oman's history is rich, honourable, authentic
In an interview aired on Sharjah TV, His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, spoke with Mohammed Hassan Khalaf, Director General of the Sharjah Broadcasting Authority, about his latest historical and intellectual work, " The Portuguese in the Sea of Oman: Events in Annals from 1497 to 1757.' The 21-volume series chronicles events from 1497 to 1757 AD, focusing on the region's history and the strategic significance of the Sea of Oman. His Highness highlighted the depth and authenticity of Oman's historical legacy, describing it as both rich and honourable. His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah opened the television interview with an in-depth overview of his ongoing project to collect, translate, and publish historical documents. He recalled that in 1985, after earning his doctorate and publishing his thesis as a book, he visited the India Office Library and Records in the UK. His Highness shared that he had presented his doctoral thesis to the Director of the British Library, who examined it with interest, particularly intrigued by the sources of the documents it referenced. His Highness then detailed the challenges he faced in accessing British documents for his research, which ultimately led him to travel to Mumbai, India, to obtain the necessary copies. He recounted that the idea came from an elderly Indian woman he met in the library, who was also working on her thesis. She informed him that the same documents were available in Mumbai, which prompted his decision to continue his research there. His Highness shared that he had enlisted the assistance of Fiona Wilkie, an employee at the British Library who specialised in Portuguese documents. With approval from the Library Director, His Highness arranged for her early retirement—covering the expenses himself—and employed her directly to support his efforts in gathering Portuguese historical records. H.H. explained that the British Library had preserved many Portuguese documents following the recapture of Mumbai from the Portuguese, as part of efforts to better understand and study the region. His Highness also revealed that transferring and translating these documents into the British Library's collection took five years and was carried out by a Portuguese-speaking expert named Denver, supported by a dedicated and skilled team. Sharjah Ruler: Government housing offers stability to families
His Highness added that the laws and conditions associated with getting government housing ensure this stability, and the government seizes the house from any husband who violates these restrictions. He also stressed the importance of promoting compassion and unity in society, noting that "faith" is the Emirate of Sharjah's guiding concept. His Highness stated in a phone conversation on Sharjah Radio and TV's Direct Line programme, which was hosted by Mohammed Hassan Khalaf, the Director General of the Sharjah Broadcasting Authority: "The issue of a husband overpowering his wife and children at home causes numerous problems, and we suffer as a result. The situation has escalated to such an extent that I have been forced to make tough choices. Upon handing over a residence, the recipient signs documents that outline the terms of delivery. Among these is a condition stating that if the recipient breaks social life principles, the residence will be reclaimed. Similarly, we will reclaim the residence if the homeowner engages in illegal behaviour or manipulates others. So, what can you expect if the man assaults his wife and children? Of course, he will lose his home. Sharjah Ruler continued: "This is the law, and the recipient must read and sign these terms before the handover. The government does not provide this residence randomly; it is subject to specific conditions. If the man is unjust, the government can take the house and protect the wife and kids. We therefore establish standards that forbid anyone from mistreating his spouse or kids. We appointed her a partner in the household, so he cannot deport her. The Arabic word 'sakan' (dwelling) signifies stability, and the Arabic 'sakinah' is tranquillity, whose essence is the woman." By command of His Highness, Sharjah Police return a woman and her children to their home. His Highness stated, "We previously dealt with a case in which a woman and her children were expelled from their home by her husband, who then divorced her and took over the house." I issued an order to return the woman and her children to their home. Sharjah Police carried out the order, and the man's house was reclaimed based on the conditions he signed when he received the property, which he violated by assaulting his wife and children. Under police supervision, the man removed his personal belongings from the residence, allowing the woman and her children to return. The man moved to another home because we worried about his wife and kids' safety. He was also taking medication that produced mental imbalance, and I continued to monitor his case to guarantee his condition improved."
