Muslim World League chief meets Afghan ministers in Kabul
KABUL: Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, secretary-general of the Muslim World League and chairman of the Organization of Muslim Scholars, conducted high-level meetings with senior Afghan officials during his visit to Kabul. Al-Issa met Afghan Foreign Minister Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi. Discussions centered on strengthening solidarity and promoting Islamic values worldwide. Key topics included the imperative to present Islam's true character through its principles of justice, rights protection, moderation and universal compassion. The officials emphasized that religious tolerance, as outlined in the Qur'an, Sunnah and prophetic traditions, must be reflected in Muslim conduct at both individual and community levels. The dialogue addressed contemporary challenges facing these objectives, particularly conflicting scholarly interpretations on critical issues that should unite the Muslim community. Officials referenced the significance of the 'Makkah Document' and the 'Document for Building Bridges Between Islamic Schools of Thought,' while highlighting the crucial role of the league's Islamic Fiqh Council as the premier jurisprudential body serving the Islamic nation's muftis and senior scholars. The meeting stressed the importance of promoting religious awareness through wisdom and sound guidance, while preventing those who exploit such discrepancies — whether deliberately or through ignorance — from damaging Islam's image and fueling Islamophobic sentiments. Al-Issa commended the Afghan government's counter-terrorism efforts during the talks. In a separate meeting, Al-Issa held discussions with Afghan Interior Minister Khalifa Sirajuddin Haqqani, focusing specifically on Afghanistan's fight against terrorist organizations. Both officials underscored that Islamic unity carries profound significance, while division and discord threaten Muslim solidarity and tarnish Islam's reputation. They agreed that such damage far outweighs any perceived benefits some scholars might identify in jurisprudential matters that rank below this paramount Islamic goal, adhering to the established principles of weighing benefits against potential harm recognized across all Islamic schools of thought.

Muslim World League chief meets UK Islamic leaders in Madinah
LONDON: The secretary-general of the Muslim World League, Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, met British Islamic leaders in Madinah on Wednesday to discuss issues facing the UK's Muslim community. The visitors praised the MWL's important role in the Islamic world and among Muslim minorities in Europe and the UK, highlighting its work to preserve cultural and religious identities. They also noted that King Charles welcomed Al-Issa as the first Arab and Muslim figure from outside the UK to visit Buckingham Palace after his coronation. The delegation visited the MWL-affiliated International Fair and Museum of the Prophet's Biography, which tells the story of the Prophet Muhammad's life. During the talks they reaffirmed their support for the Palestinian cause and called for an 'immediate end to the genocide being perpetrated against the people of Gaza by the brutal war machine of the Israeli occupation government.' Gaza should be a symbol of unity, not division, among Muslim communities, they said, according to an MWL statement. The delegation commended the 2019 Charter of Makkah, saying it helped foster interaction with non-Muslim audiences and promoted moderation in addressing contemporary issues.

MWL chief receives Pakistani National Assembly speaker
MAKKAH: Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, secretary-general of the Muslim World League and chairman of the Organization of Muslim Scholars, received Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan. During the recent meeting at the league's headquarters in Makkah, the two sides discussed a number of issues of mutual interest. Sadiq praised the Islamic and international efforts of the league, including its endeavors to promote Islamic unity, serve Muslim minorities, combat Islamophobia, address the issue of girls' education in Muslim communities and represent the Islamic world commendably in international forums. During his tour of the Kingdom, the Pakistani speaker held meetings with Riyadh Gov. Prince Faisal bin Bandar, Madinah Gov. Prince Salman bin Sultan, Shoura Council Speaker Sheikh Abdullah Al-Asheikh and Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdulaziz Al-Asheikh.

Countries and organisations unite in condemning ghastly Pahalgam terror attack
New Delhi: Several Muslim nations and organisations continue to condemn and reject terrorism in all its forms and manifestations in the aftermath of the horrific terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam. Based in Saudi Arabia, the Muslim World League (MWL) extended its condolences to the families of the victims of the heinous crime and wished a swift recovery for the injured. The MWL Secretary General, Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, had called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Jeddah during his visit to Saudi Arabia on Tuesday and strongly condemned the ghastly terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir and offered deepest condolences on the innocent lives lost. The Foreign Ministry of Saudi Arabia also condemned the attack in the strongest terms. "The Kingdom affirms its firm stance in rejecting all forms of violence, extremism, and targetting of civilians. The Kingdom also extends its sincere condolences and sympathy to the families of the victims, and the government and people of India," the ministry said in a statement. Jordan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates affirmed the Kingdom's full support and solidarity with the "friendly nation" of India. The Ministry's official spokesperson, Ambassador Sufyan Al-Qudah said that the Kingdom rejects all forms of violence and terrorism that seek to destabilise security and stability. The Taliban regime in Afghanistan also issued a strong statement on the terror attack, stating that such incidents affect regional security and stability. "The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan categorically condemns the recent attack on tourists in the Pahalgam region of Jammu and Kashmir, and expresses our condolences to the bereaved families. Such incidents undermine efforts to ensure regional security and stability,' the Ministry's spokesperson remarked. Strongly condemning the terrorist attack, Iran's Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi extended condolences to the people and government of India "Iran strongly and unequivocally condemns the terrorist attack against tourists in Pahalgam. Our thoughts and prayers are with the innocent victims and their families. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the people and government of India," he posted on X The President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, also sent a telegram of condolences to President Draupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Modi, in connection with the terrible terrorist act that occurred in Jammu and Kashmir. "The tragic news of the loss of life and injury to a large number of people in the terrorist attack in the Jammu and Kashmir region has caused us immense sorrow and deep concern. We strongly condemn this cruel act of criminal forces and reiterate Tajikistan's readiness to strengthen the relentless and collective fight against all manifestations of terrorism and extremism. I express my sincere condolences to you, the families and loved ones of the victims of this terrorist act, and to all the people of friendly India. I wish a full recovery to all those injured," said Rahmon.

Muslim World League leader meets PM Modi, condemns Pahalgam terror attack
Jeddah: The Muslim World League has condemned the ghastly terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam and offered its deepest condolences on the 16 innocent lives lost so far. Muslim World League Secretary-General Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, to offer his condolences over the terror attack, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Wednesday. Prime Minister Modi commended the firm stand of the Muslim World League against extremism, terrorism and violence. The MEA stated that during their talks, Prime Minister Modi recalled his meeting with the Secretary-General in July 2023 in New Delhi and appreciated the role of the Muslim World League in "promoting tolerant values, advocating moderation and advancing social cohesion and harmony." Recalling India's age-old philosophy of 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam' (the world is one family), PM Modi noted that India, as a multi-cultural, multi-lingual, multi-ethnic and multi-religious society, celebrates unity in diversity, MEA said in a statement. The Prime Minister stressed that India's diversity is a "valuable strength" that gives shape to its vibrant society and polity, according to the MEA statement. "Prime Minister Modi underlined that India attaches high importance to its relations with Saudi Arabia, which has today evolved into an enduring partnership across several domains. The close socio-cultural ties form an important facet of this partnership," it added. In the wake of a devastating terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam region, which claimed the lives of 16 individuals, including tourists and an intelligence officer, world leaders have strongly condemned the violence and extended their condolences. The attack, which occurred on Tuesday in the picturesque Baisaran Valley, saw terrorists emerge from surrounding forests and indiscriminately open fire on a group of tourists, leaving dozens injured in addition to the fatalities. Early reports suggest the Pakistan-based terror outfit, The Resistance Front, an offshoot of the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba, has claimed responsibility for the assault, marking one of the worst attacks in the region in recent years.
