Muslim World League chief meets UK Islamic leaders in Madinah
LONDON: The secretary-general of the Muslim World League, Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, met British Islamic leaders in Madinah on Wednesday to discuss issues facing the UK's Muslim community. The visitors praised the MWL's important role in the Islamic world and among Muslim minorities in Europe and the UK, highlighting its work to preserve cultural and religious identities. They also noted that King Charles welcomed Al-Issa as the first Arab and Muslim figure from outside the UK to visit Buckingham Palace after his coronation. The delegation visited the MWL-affiliated International Fair and Museum of the Prophet's Biography, which tells the story of the Prophet Muhammad's life. During the talks they reaffirmed their support for the Palestinian cause and called for an 'immediate end to the genocide being perpetrated against the people of Gaza by the brutal war machine of the Israeli occupation government.' Gaza should be a symbol of unity, not division, among Muslim communities, they said, according to an MWL statement. The delegation commended the 2019 Charter of Makkah, saying it helped foster interaction with non-Muslim audiences and promoted moderation in addressing contemporary issues.

Muslim World League leader meets PM Modi, condemns Pahalgam terror attack
Jeddah: The Muslim World League has condemned the ghastly terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam and offered its deepest condolences on the 16 innocent lives lost so far. Muslim World League Secretary-General Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, to offer his condolences over the terror attack, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Wednesday. Prime Minister Modi commended the firm stand of the Muslim World League against extremism, terrorism and violence. The MEA stated that during their talks, Prime Minister Modi recalled his meeting with the Secretary-General in July 2023 in New Delhi and appreciated the role of the Muslim World League in "promoting tolerant values, advocating moderation and advancing social cohesion and harmony." Recalling India's age-old philosophy of 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam' (the world is one family), PM Modi noted that India, as a multi-cultural, multi-lingual, multi-ethnic and multi-religious society, celebrates unity in diversity, MEA said in a statement. The Prime Minister stressed that India's diversity is a "valuable strength" that gives shape to its vibrant society and polity, according to the MEA statement. "Prime Minister Modi underlined that India attaches high importance to its relations with Saudi Arabia, which has today evolved into an enduring partnership across several domains. The close socio-cultural ties form an important facet of this partnership," it added. In the wake of a devastating terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam region, which claimed the lives of 16 individuals, including tourists and an intelligence officer, world leaders have strongly condemned the violence and extended their condolences. The attack, which occurred on Tuesday in the picturesque Baisaran Valley, saw terrorists emerge from surrounding forests and indiscriminately open fire on a group of tourists, leaving dozens injured in addition to the fatalities. Early reports suggest the Pakistan-based terror outfit, The Resistance Front, an offshoot of the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba, has claimed responsibility for the assault, marking one of the worst attacks in the region in recent years.

MWL chief begins French visit with tour of ‘Gaza in Distress' exhibition
RIYADH: Secretary-General of the Muslim World League Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa has commenced his official visit to France with a series of high-profile engagements in Paris, focusing on interfaith dialogue and contemporary Islamic issues. At the invitation of leading global think tanks, Al-Issa, who also serves as the chairman of the Organization of Muslim Scholars, participated in a seminar hosted by the French Institute for International Relations, where he addressed commonly misunderstood religious terminology and contemporary challenges facing Muslim communities worldwide. The event drew attendance from the institute's secretary-general alongside prominent researchers and thought leaders. Al-Issa also engaged with representatives from research centers, politicians, and opinion leaders during a roundtable discussion at the headquarters of French daily L'Opinion. The wide-ranging conversation covered the league's positions on current affairs, clarifications of religious perspectives, frequently misunderstood intellectual concepts, and ethical considerations regarding artificial intelligence. Al-Issa also toured the 'Gaza in Distress' exhibition at the Arab World Institute. The museum documents Gaza's rich cultural heritage through photographs and footage of UNESCO-listed historical landmarks — including mosques, churches, and archaeological sites — that have been destroyed in recent conflicts. Following the museum tour, Al-Issa participated in an extensive discussion with Jack Lang, president of the Arab World Institute, exploring the organization's efforts to build cultural bridges and counter harmful narratives, slogans and practices of civilizational clash — objectives that align with the Muslim World League's own mission to promote Islam's message of peace. During the discussions, Al-Issa highlighted the league's 'Building Bridges of Understanding and Cooperation Between East and West' initiative launched at UN headquarters in New York, emphasizing that meaningful cross-cultural engagement has been a hallmark of Islamic civilization throughout history.
