Doctor removed from Air India flight at Bengaluru over threats to bring down plane: Report
Authorities in Bengaluru have filed a case against a local medical professional accused of causing a disturbance on an Air India flight bound for Surat, Gujarat. The incident, involving 36-year-old Dr Vyas Hiral Mohanbhai of Yelahanka, reportedly occurred on Tuesday afternoon, around 2:45 pm, The Indian Express reported. According to official statements, Dr Mohanbhai allegedly demanded that cabin crew carry her hand baggage, which she had left in the front row, to her designated seat at 20F. When questioned about the inappropriate placement of her bag, she reportedly became agitated. The cabin crew promptly informed the pilot, who attempted to de-escalate the matter. However, the passenger allegedly continued to behave disruptively, leading to her removal from the plane before take-off. The Bengaluru International Airport Limited (BIAL) police have since registered a case against Dr Mohanbhai. She faces charges under several sections, including Section 351(4) for criminal intimidation, Section 353(1)(b) for making statements intended to cause public alarm under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and Section 3(1)(a) of the Suppression of Unlawful Acts Against Safety of Civil Aviation Act, which addresses actions that may jeopardize the safety of an aircraft, the report noted. This comes after the tragic crash of Air India's flight AI171, which killed 241 passengers on board and around 30 people on the ground. Police are now verifying her background and previous incidents.

The Bengaluru police have booked a city-based doctor for allegedly misbehaving with cabin crew on board an Air India flight bound for Surat, Gujarat, and threatening to crash the plane. According to the police, Dr Vyas Hiral Mohanbhai, 36, hailing from Yelahanka, was offloaded from the flight after the incident that took place around 2.45 pm on Tuesday. After boarding the plane, Mohanbhai dropped her bag in the front row and demanded crew members carry it to her seat, 20 F, when questioned about the bag's placement. The situation escalated when she allegedly shouted threats about 'crashing the plane', prompting the cabin crew to alert the pilot. Despite the pilot's intervention, Dr Mohanbhai refused to calm down, leading to her removal from the aircraft before its departure, according to the police. The Bengaluru International Airport Limited (BIAL) police have booked Dr Mohanbhai under sections 351 (4) (criminal intimidation by anonymous communication) and 353 (1)(b) (statements of public mischief) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita as well as section 3(1)(a) (act of violence against a person on board an aircraft in flight which is likely to endanger the safety of such aircraft) of the Suppression of Unlawful Acts against Safety of Civil Aviation Act. In another incident that took place on Tuesday, Sadaad Mohammad Baba, 22, from Srinagar, allegedly attempted to forcibly enter departure gate 8 at Bengaluru airport's Terminal 1. When CISF personnel tried to prevent his unauthorised entry, Baba allegedly shoved the security staff. The police have booked Baba under BNS sections 132 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 221 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), and 329 (2) (criminal trespass).
