Kota Kinabalu: A 35-year-old man was sent to prison for five years and ordered to get a stroke of the cane for taking syabu for the third time. Sessions Court Judge Amir Shah Amir Hassan meted out the sentence to Mohd Jamnu Mohd Judin who pleaded guilty to the charge against him on Friday. Mohd Jammu was found of taking the drug at 6pm on June 20 this year after his urine was tested positive for drug at the police station here and he has two conviction records for taking the drug. He committed the offence under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act (DDA) which punishable under Section 39C(1) of DDA provides for a jail term of between five and seven years, and whipping, on conviction. The court ordered Mohd Jammu to serve the jail sentence from the date of his arrest and to be placed under police supervision for three years after completing the jail sentence. Earlier, during mitigation, Mohd Jammu who was not represented, asked for a lenient sentence saying that he has family to look after. He also promised that once he release from prison, he would not repeat the offence.
