Minister: Preacher's credentials revoked amid sex video probe

Religious Affairs Minister Datuk Setia Mohd Na'im Haji Mokhtar. —SAMUEL ONG/The Star PETALING JAYA: The credentials of a freelance preacher who was allegedly involved in the circulation of sex videos had already been revoked, says Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar (pic). The Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) revealed that based on the information received, the man was previously granted permission to preach, which has since been withdrawn. However, he urged the public to let the police continue carrying out their investigation. 'It's best to allow the process to take its course to avoid any miscarriage of justice,' he said after launching the Wacana Dakwah Al-Falah Memacu Ummah Madani programme at Pondok Sungai Durian in Kuala Krai, Kelantan. He also reminded religious speakers to uphold Islamic principles and use their knowledge to guide the community, not engage in behaviour that undermines the integrity of religious institutions. 'Any preacher found to have acted in a manner that tarnishes the image of religious institutions will have their credentials revoke by the respective state religious authorities. 'I also encourage the public to verify the credentials of any invited speaker with the state Mufti Department or religious authority to ensure they are truly certified,' Mohd Na'im said. On Saturday, Shah Alam OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim said the 39-year-old preacher was detained on July 1 over the sex videos. He said the suspect's second wife had lodged a report on June 16 that he had been sharing videos of him having sex with his wives and other women. 'Investigations led to the arrest of the suspect. We also seized two mobile phones and a laptop,' he said. Checks on the mobile phones revealed sex videos of the suspect and his wives as well as indecent photos of other women, ACP Mohd Iqbal said. 'The suspect was remanded until Saturday and he has since been released on police bail,' he added. 'We urge those with information on the case to contact investigating officer Insp Mira Noraien Norashid at 011-1143 0765,' ACP Mohd Iqbal said.

Malaysia first nation authorised to distribute nusuk cards for haj

Religious Affairs Minister Datuk Setia Mohd Na'im Haji Mokhtar. —SAMUEL ONG/The Star KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia has marked another milestone by becoming the first country in the world to be granted approval by the Saudi Arabian government to distribute nusuk cards to haj pilgrims domestically before their departure to the Holy Land. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar (pic) said the approval is a recognition of Malaysia's efficient haj management system. The nusuk card, introduced by the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, serves as the official identification for all pilgrims worldwide. 'Last year, the nusuk cards were handed out in Mecca before the wukuf ritual but this year, they will be distributed earlier to ease the pilgrims' movement. 'If we succeed in managing the domestic distribution of the nusuk cards, the initiative will be extended to other Muslim countries. 'This is a significant recognition from the Saudi government, made possible through the close and strategic cooperation between Tabung Haji (TH) and the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah,' he told reporters after visiting the Haj Visa Processing Unit to observe preparations for the 1446H/2025 pilgrimage season. Also present were TH chairman Tan Sri Abdul Rashid Hussain and chief executive officer Datuk Syed Hamadah Syed Othman. Mohd Na'im also extended appreciation to the Saudi government for its efficiency in issuing visas and improving the nusuk card system. 'This achievement will serve as a catalyst for TH to continue providing the best services to Malaysian pilgrims,' he said, Bernama reported. Meanwhile, he said the visa issuance process for Malaysian pilgrims for this year's haj season has reached 45%. 'TH is also fully prepared for this year's hajj operations, with readiness at nearly 100%. This year, TH is deploying 632 haj personnel comprising welfare staff, medical staff and external agencies involved,' he added.
