‘My name isn't even on the list': Negeri Sembilan MB Aminuddin denies lobbying for federal role, leaves decision to Anwar

SEREMBAN, June 1 – Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun has reportedly denied any interest in a federal Cabinet post, saying his priority remains on administering the state effectively. He dismissed speculation that he might be considered for a ministerial role following the recent resignations of two of his party mates, saying the decision lies entirely with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. 'I'm not lobbying for any position and I believe it's best to leave that to the Prime Minister to decide. My name isn't even on the list, so no worries,' he was quoted saying by Utusan Malaysia yesterday. Aminuddin, who is also a PKR vice-president, reiterated that Cabinet appointments are at the discretion of the party president and prime minister. The speculation emerged after Datuk Seri Mohd Rafizi Ramli resigned as economy minister, while Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad stepped down as minister of natural resources and environmental after losing in the PKR party elections. Aminuddin were among those who defended their vice-president posts. He received the third most votes after Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari and Datuk Seri R. Ramanan. Science Minister Chang Lih Kang won the fourth post. Anwar has today again dismissed speculation of Cabinet reshuffle, assuring the public that the unity government remains stable and operational despite several ministers currently on leave. He said there is no urgency for changes within the Cabinet for now despite the two resignations.

Johor-Singapore SEZ will transcend political cycles, says Rafizi

Rafizi has publicly vowed to resign from the Cabinet if he fails to retain the deputy presidency of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) The Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ), as a bilateral initiative, must transcend political cycles, Minister of Economy Datuk Seri Mohd Rafizi Ramli said on Monday. The JS-SEZ must 'never depend on the sitting administration of the day, or the whims and desires of individual politicians', Rafizi said in his keynote address at the JS-SEZ Partners Dialogue: Advancing Facilitation event. The zone will continue to be a national priority in the coming years, he said. 'My time here is temporary, and there will eventually be another minister of economy to replace me,' he said. 'The last thing we need is for all the momentum, attention, and excitement to go to waste.' The comment comes at a time when he is facing what analysts say is an uphill battle against Nurul Izzah Anwar, the daughter of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, for the deputy president post of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR). Rafizi has publicly vowed to resign from the Cabinet if he fails to retain the deputy presidency. Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi thanked Rafizi as the architect of the JS-SEZ and for his support to the state at the same event. Early indicators are encouraging for the JS-SEZ, with foreign direct investment interest in Johor showing strong momentum, Rafizi said on Monday. Rafizi also reiterated that coordination between federal and state authorities, particularly Johor, and collaboration with the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry have been central to maintaining the project's momentum. Malaysia and Singapore formally signed an agreement in January 2025 to create the zone that aims to attract 100 projects worth RM100 billion within its first decade and create some 100,000 new jobs in high-value economic sectors. To support the JS-SEZ, the government has announced incentives, including a special corporate tax rate, to lure investors to set up shop in the zone that stretches from Kulai and part of Pontian to Pengerang. Nurul Izzah launches PKR deputy president campaign in Perak, vows to bring women to the forefront

IPOH, May 11 — Nurul Izzah Anwar, candidate for the post of Parti Keadilan Rakyat's (PKR) deputy president kicked off her campaign for the 2025-2028 party elections by engaging with grassroot members in Perak yesterday. The Temu Rapat Akar Umbi Bersama Nurul Izzah (grassroots engagement with Nurul Izzah) programme drew more than 1,000 PKR members, including representatives from the women's wing, Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK), and state branch leaders. Nurul Izzah, who is also a PKR vice president said in her speech that her decision to contest the party's number two position stems from a desire to unite members through the strength and role of women. 'Everyone knows that we (women) often play a supporting role. We rarely get to be in the lead role (heroine). But this time, I've made the decision, this is my party, and I care deeply about this cause,' she said. The nomination process for the party election, which ended at 11.59pm Friday night, saw Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim remain unchallenged for the president's post, while the deputy president post will be a straight fight between Nurul Izzah and Economy Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Rafizi Ramli, who is the incumbent. In the contest for Vice President, 12 candidates have submitted their nominations, including four incumbents; Nik Nazmi Nik Mat (Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability), Chang Lih Kang (Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation), Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun (Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar), and Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari (Selangor Menteri Besar). Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim, political secretary to the Finance Minister, is the sole candidate for the position of AMK chief, while the PKR Women's chief post will see a one-on-one contest between Fadhlina Sidek (Education Minister) and Rodziah Ismail (member of Parliament for Ampang).
