Reenacting the battlefield: Police personnel performing in the 'Zabri, Pejuang Sang Saka Biru' pantomime in conjunction with the 2025 Warriors' Day ceremony at Dataran Pahlawan in Putrajaya. — Bernama PUTRAJAYA: For Sarjan Jafri Khairul Mohd Jaafar, playing the role of a national hero who was killed in combat with communist insurgents was not just about acting. 'This role is heavy. It's not just acting. It's a responsibility,' said the 44-year-old member of the elite VAT 69 Commando unit, reflecting on the experience of portraying the late Asst Supt Mohd Zabri Abdul Hamid in a pantomime held in conjunction with the 2025 Warriors' Day ceremony yesterday. Sgt Jafri Khairul, who has served with the special forces based at the Sultan Nazrin Shah Camp in Ulu Kinta for two decades, admitted that he did not expect the task of performing in the pantomime to be so emotionally overwhelming and touching. 'ASP Mohd Zabri is not just a figure in our unit's history. He's a legend and playing him reminded me of my late comrade, ASP Zulkifli Mamat,' he told Bernama, his voice breaking as he fought back tears. He said he was present during the bloody Lahad Datu incident on March 1, 2013, which claimed the lives of ASP Zulkifli and nine other security personnel, adding that the tragedy remains etched in his memory. 'When I stepped onto the stage, I didn't see the lights or the audience. All I saw were the faces of those who are no longer with us,' he said quietly. The pantomime titled Zabri, Pejuang Sang Saka Biru (Zabri, Warrior of the Blue Banner) by the police took the audience through the heroic tales of VAT 69 commando ASP Mohd Zabri. The 15-minute performance portraying the struggles of ASP Mohd Zabri, famed as the legendary wielder of Kerambit Kembar (twin curved knife), was brought to life by 142 police officers and personnel. It was followed by a video, which was creatively produced by the Royal Malaysia Police team using 80% artificial intelligence technology to illustrate the true story. ASP Mohd Zabri, who was on a mission to pursue and stop the insurgents from escaping across the border, had stepped on a booby trap. The explosion severed his right ankle, causing massive blood loss. Before drawing his last breath, ASP Mohd Zabri delivered a final message to his men, urging them to continue the mission of hunting down and defeating the nation's enemies, even in his absence.

King, Queen attend 2025 Warriors' Day celebration
PUTRAJAYA: His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim and Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, King and Queen of Malaysia, today attended a parade held in conjunction with the 2025 Warriors' Day celebration at Dataran Pahlawan Negara here. The celebration, coordinated by the police, carried the concept of a static parade featuring detachments from the police, armed forces, Veterans Association of Malaysian Armed Forces (PVATM) and the Ex-Policemen Association of Malaysia (PBPM). The ceremony began with the playing of the national anthem, Negaraku, accompanied by the firing of a 21-gun salute by Major Hafizan Mat Ghani of the 41st Battery of the Royal Artillery Regiment (Ceremonial). His Majesty then inspected the main guard of honour. A total of 18 officers and 685 personnel from the police and armed forces participated in the parade, led by Superintendent Mohamad Ridzuan Roslan of the police. Also present were Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin and Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail. Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail and Chief of Defence Force General Tan Sri Mohd Nizam Jaffar were also in attendance. The ceremony proceeded with the sounding of the 'Last Post', as the Jalur Gemilang was lowered. This was followed by the recital of the poem "Darah Yang Terpercik di Baju" by police detective Sergeant Ardiansyah Wayang and Staff Sergeant Siti Nur Aini Jasni of the armed forces. The poem recounts the tragic ambush by communist terrorists on an armed convoy transporting patients from Baling, Kedah, to Pengkalan Hulu, Perak, on July 20, 1979. The incident claimed the lives of three armed forces personnel, namely Corporal Ramli Abdul Rashid, Trooper Azmi Rahman, and Trooper Abu Hassan Syeikh Daud. The ceremony continued with a special pantomime performance, "Zabri, Pejuang Sang Saka Biru", by the police and directed by GOF Central Brigade commander SAC Hakemal Hawari, depicting the heroic journey of VAT69 Commando ASP Mohd Zabri Abdul Hamid. The story of Mohd Zabri's struggle, famously known as the Legend of Kerambit Kembar, was brought to life through a 15-minute performance involving 142 policemen, followed by the presentation of an AI-generated video, a creative production by the police team based on real-life events. The pantomime narrated the story of the late Mohd Zabri, who was killed in a deadly ambush by communist terrorists in 1975. He was fatally injured after stepping on a booby trap while on a mission to intercept terrorists attempting to escape across the border. The booby trap severely injured his right ankle, leading to heavy blood loss. In his final moments, Mohd Zabri managed to deliver a message to his comrades, to continue the struggle, to track down and eliminate the enemies of the nation, even in his absence. The ceremony proceeded with the sounding of the Paluan Fajar, during which the Jalur Gemilang was hoisted, symbolising renewed spirit and strength for the nation's heroes to continue defending the country's sovereignty and peace.
