SANDAKAN: An Indonesian illegal immigrant was jailed a total of 34 years plus 14 strokes of the cane on three counts of raping and sexually assaulting his stepbrother's 14-year-old daughter, early this month. The 25-year-old pleaded guilty before Sessions Court Judge Mohd Zaini Fishir @ Fisal to committing the offences. On the first and second count, the man was sentenced to 13 years' jail and seven lashes of the cane each for raping the minor on July 8, at 11m, and July 9, at 3am, in a living room of a plantation workers' house, here. The charges are framed under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code, read with Sections 16(1) and 26(1) of the Sexual Offences against Children Act 2017. On the third count, the man was handed eight years' jail for committing physical sexual offences against the same victim on July 7, at 11am, at the same place. The charge under Section 14(a), read with Section 16(1) of the Sexual Offences against Children Act 2017, is punishable under Section 14 read with Sections 16(1) and 26(1) of the same Act. The court ordered the man to serve the sentences from the date of his arrest. The man was also sentenced to four months' jail for illegal entry and was ordered to serve the sentence concurrently with the sentence of his third case and to be referred to the Immigration Department thereafter.
