Iranian Politician Mohsen Hashemi, Son of Former President Rafsanjani: Negotiations with the West Would Give Us a Chance to Close the Technological Gap and Improve Our Air Defenses; If the Enemy Gives
Iranian politician Mohsen Hashemi of the Executives of Construction Party, and son of former President Rafsanjani, said in an August 11, 2025 interview on Tehran TV (Iran) that Iran should seize the opportunities provided by the war with Israel to bridge its technological gap. He said that negotiations with the West could create such opportunities. Hashemi noted that Iran had previously agreed to freeze its uranium enrichment and could do so again, using the time to advance technologically. He explained that while Iran has made significant progress in long-range missiles, it could use this period to develop anti-aircraft systems and aerospace security. He added that the war exposed Iran's weakness in air defense, and now is the time to address it, stating: 'If the enemy really lets us have an opportunity to do this, why wouldn't we take it?'
