Cubs designate INF/OF Vidal Brujan for assignment
July 30 - The Chicago Cubs designated utilityman Vidal Brujan for assignment ahead of Wednesday afternoon's series finale in Milwaukee. Brujan, 27, is hitting .222 with three RBIs in 36 games this season, his first with Chicago following a December trade with the Miami Marlins. Defensively, Brujan has played innings this season at second base, shortstop, third base and all three outfield spots. Brujan is a career .192 hitter with five homers, 43 RBIs and 16 stolen bases in 237 games with the Tampa Bay Rays (2021-23), Marlins (2024) and Cubs. Chicago also recalled catcher/DH Moises Ballesteros from Triple-A Iowa and reinstated right-hander Porter Hodge (right shoulder impingement) from the 15-day injured list. Cubs activating OF Ian Happ from injured list
May 20 - The Chicago Cubs are activating Gold Glove left fielder Ian Happ from the injured list ahead of Tuesday's game against the host Miami Marlins. Cubs president Jed Hoyer confirmed the move to the team's radio flagship, 670 The Score. Rookie designated hitter Moises Ballesteros is expected to return to Triple-A Iowa to clear the roster spot. Happ, 30, spent the minimum time on the 10-day IL after sustaining a left oblique strain on May 9. He is batting .269 with three homers and 19 RBIs in 39 games this season. The Cubs selected Happ ninth overall in the 2015 MLB Draft out of the University of Cincinnati. He made his debut in 2017 and has hit .249 with 153 homers and 497 RBIs in 1,028 games. Happ was an All-Star in 2022 and won the Gold Glove Award for left fielders in 2022, 2023 and 2024. Ballesteros, 21, is the Cubs' No. 4 prospect and No. 61 overall, according to MLB Pipeline. CHICAGO — One of the Cubs' best hitters this season is heading to the injured list. Chicago announced before Tuesday night's game against Miami that outfielder Ian Happ has been placed on the 10-day IL with a left oblique strain. In a corresponding move, the Cubs selected the contract of catcher Moises Ballesteros from Triple-A Iowa. Happ suffered the injury on May 9 against the New York Mets and has missed the last three games. The 30-year-old is hitting .269 on the season, his best since he was an All-Star in 2022, and has three homers. Happ's designation is retroactive to May 10. The 21-year-old Ballesteros is the Cubs' No. 4-ranked prospect. The Venezuelan signed with Chicago as an international free agent in 2021 and made his major league debut against the Marlins, going 0 for 4 as the designated hitter in the Cubs' 5-4 win. May 14 - The Chicago Cubs placed Gold Glove left fielder Ian Happ on the 10-day injured list Tuesday because of a left oblique strain. The move is retroactive to Saturday. The Cubs selected the contract of highly ranked catching prospect Moises Ballesteros from Triple-A Iowa and, in a corresponding move, moved right-hander Tyson Miller from the 15- to 60-day IL because of a left hip impingement. Happ, 30, has not played since going 0-for-3 with a walk in a 7-2 loss at the New York Mets on Friday and dealing with oblique soreness. He is batting .269 with three homers and 19 RBIs in 39 games.
