Family Day Softball Tournament to play over two days

SEBOKENG.- Family Day Softball Tournament will be played over two days to accommodate outside teams. This much-anticipated tournament, organised by the Jumpers Softball Club, is scheduled at Saul Tsotetsi Sports Centre on June 14. The tournament is in celebration of those unsung heroes who contributed to the development of softball in this region as both players and administrators. This was revealed to Sedibeng Ster Sport by the Jumpers Softball Club official Sammy Molefe, who is one of the people behind this initiative. He told Sedibeng Ster Sport that they have extended the tournament to play for two days to accommodate softball teams from outside. This includes teams as far as Botswana, Limpopo, and North West. Molefe said they decided to host this tournament over two days because of the demand for the tournament from outside softball teams, especially from Botswana. 'We decided to extend the tournament over two days, as I mentioned earlier, because it has drawn interest from outside teams. We are anticipating interest from many teams outside Gauteng. I do not doubt that this tournament is going to be one of the biggest,' said Molefe. At Caxton, we employ humans to generate daily fresh news, not AI intervention. Happy reading!

FSCA warns South Africans about unauthorised financial activities

Momentum Group, a prominent player in South Africa's financial services sector, has alerted the public to an alarming increase in scams leveraging the power of 'deepfake' technology. The FSCA has issued a warning about Mr. Lethabo Molefe, who is soliciting investments with unrealistic returns. The public is urged to verify the legitimacy of financial services to avoid scams. The Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA) has issued a public warning regarding financial services offered by Mr. Lethabo Molefe, urging caution when engaging in financial transactions with him. The FSCA has identified that Molefe has been soliciting funds for investment purposes, promising unrealistic returns to members of the public. Individuals were recruited via Telegram groups, where they were assured a return of R9,000 from an initial investment of R900. Deposits were made into a Capitec Bank account linked to Mr. Thato Rapelego. Upon investigation, the FSCA contacted Rapelego for comment. He stated that he does not provide financial services and alleged that his bank account was used without his authorisation. Molefe was unavailable for comment. While the FSCA does not provide details on their business activities, it emphasises that neither Molefe nor Rapelego is authorised under any financial sector law to offer financial services to the public. The matter is now being referred to the South African Police Service for further action.

Midrand Chess Club continues to inspire and empower local talent

Midrand Chess Club is on a mission to bridge the gap between township talent and competitive opportunities, aiming to propel local players to success on national and international stages. The club is thrilled to announce that three of its outstanding players will compete in the Moja Chess Extravaganza, one of Africa's most prestigious chess tournaments. This event highlights the growing prominence of chess within the community and showcases the exceptional talent nurtured by the club and will take place from April 26 to May 1. Coach Kgosimang Molefe believes that the advent of streaming has revolutionised chess, transforming it from a quiet, solitary pursuit into an engaging, social experience that appeals to a wide audience. Also read: Youngsters from New Jerusalem Children's Home join the Midrand Chess Club for a practice session 'Streaming has injected life into chess, making it interactive and enjoyable for everyone,' said Molefe. He noted the growth of online platforms, innovative school programmes, and active community outreach initiatives had made chess accessible to countless individuals, allowing it to become a game that welcomes all. Despite the progress made, challenges remain, particularly in under-resourced areas. Molefe identified significant barriers to participation that players often face, such as registration fees, equipment costs, and travel expenses for tournaments. He emphasised the need for support from sponsors, local federations, and partnerships with schools and NGOs to effectively address these obstacles and foster a more inclusive chess community. Also read: Midrand Chess Club continues its commitment to nurture young minds through the sport of chess While chess is fundamentally based on logic and calculation, Molefe said great players also relied on intuition to make quick, effective decisions, especially under pressure. 'Emotional intelligence is key; it can enhance judgment or cloud it.' He stressed the importance of maintaining composure, controlling nerves, and trusting one's preparation, even in challenging positions. Molefe's mission extends beyond merely cultivating chess skills; he aims to foster critical thinking, discipline, and self-confidence in all players. He is determined to establish more community-based chess programmes, particularly for children who lack access to traditional training. Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper: The shocking truth behind injury revealed

Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Bontle Molefe sent shockwaves through the Amakhosi fanbase after a recent TikTok video revealed him using a walking aid. The 22-year-old started re-learning how to walk, shocking supporters who had been unaware of any injury. The video, which quickly went viral, left many fans confused and concerned. Why hadn't the club said anything? What happened to the rising star once tipped to be a mainstay in the matchday squad? Insiders have now shed light on the situation, ending weeks of speculation. Molefe underwent a serious surgery to correct slipped discs in his back and address spinal cord complications. 'The issue had been troubling the Soweto-born player for some time,' a source revealed. 'Eventually, medical experts advised that surgery was the best long-term solution.' Molefe, who earned first-team promotion at just 16, has long been considered one of Kaizer Chiefs' most promising goalkeepers. Currently fourth in the pecking order behind Bruce Bvuma, Brandon Petersen, and Fiacre Ntwari, the young keeper remains highly regarded within the technical team. Molefe signed a new three-year contract in 2023, which includes additional option years, a strong show of faith from management. Chiefs insiders have assured fans that the rehabilitation is on track and that the player is receiving full support. 'There is no concern within Naturena about Molefe's future,' said one insider, highlighting the club's optimism. Molefe's journey from hospital bed back to the pitch won't be easy—but it's underway. With clarity now replacing speculation, fans can rally behind a young player whose courage matches his talent.
