Parents To Know More About Child's School Progress

Minister of Education Parents will know more about how their children are doing at school with the confirmation of a new assessment tool in Years 3-10 classrooms from 2026, the latest part of the Government's plan to teach the basics brilliantly. Janison Solution Pty Ltd will deliver the Student, Monitoring, Assessment and Report Tool (SMART) which will enable twice-yearly assessment of reading, writing and maths in schools nationwide. 'Last year the Auditor General found there was no consistent and comprehensive summary of student achievement and progress in New Zealand, and what information the Ministry of Education had was more detailed for some students than for others. This new tool changes that,' Education Minister Erica Stanford says. 'The check-ins will be low stakes measures of student progress and provide teachers with information on next steps in learning. They'll give parents confidence as to how their children are progressing so they can support learning at home. It will also provide crucial information to the Government to know where to invest more resource to help accelerate learning.' SMART will be modern, flexible and curriculum aligned. It will also be bilingual to cover pānui, tuhituhi and pāngarau in kura. Years 9 and 10 have been included so parents and teachers know how ready students are for NCEA. 'This builds on our new suite of classroom tools that help parents and teachers understand more about student progress. The Phonics Checks undertaken at 20 weeks of schooling and repeated at 40 weeks identifies a child's reading ability early and wrap around support if needed. A similar approach is being taken with maths, from 2026 every child will have their maths ability checked in Year 2. 'I am committed to helping parents clearly understand their child's progress at school, because when parents are informed and involved, students are more likely to reach their full potential,' Ms Stanford says. Note: The Ministry of Education secured Janison Solution Pty Ltd as its successful Tool supplier following a competitive tender process (7 March – 8 April).

CARFAX Canada Expands VIN Fraud Detection Efforts with New Consumer Tool and Data Source

LONDON, Ontario--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- CARFAX Canada is proud to announce its latest advancement in VIN fraud detection with the launch of a new consumer tool, Vehicle Monitoring, a first-of-its-kind tool for Canadian consumers. This development builds on CARFAX Canada's recent launch of the VIN Fraud Check tool for dealers, and the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) export data being shared with CARFAX Canada, reinforcing the company's position as a leader in the fight against VIN fraud and vehicle theft. CARFAX Canada Vehicle Monitoring: New Consumer Tool CARFAX Canada Vehicle Monitoring is a subscription-based program designed to provide Canadian vehicle owners with early detection of potential vehicle identification number (VIN) fraud, safety issues and other critical details about their vehicle. Vehicle Monitoring is available nationwide for an annual fee of $84.95 and includes real time VIN activity alerts, VIN fraud alerts, and a monthly refreshed Vehicle History Report. Just like credit monitoring tracks changes to your credit and alerts you to potential fraud, Vehicle Monitoring tracks activity on your VIN and additions to your vehicle's history. If you don't recognize the activity on your VIN, it is a sign to investigate it right away. With over 1,000 VINs compromised daily in Canada 1, staying informed of your vehicle's history is more important than ever. 'Unfortunately, we hear this story from Canadians too often, they don't find out their vehicle's VIN has been cloned until it's too late—usually when they try to trade it in or sell it,' said Shawn Vording, president of CARFAX Canada. 'If the consumer's vehicle is determined to be the clone, it is seized. If the consumer's VIN was used as the donor, they have a lengthy and frustrating process to go through to prove their car is the authentic vehicle. Early detection in both cases is key, and that's what inspired us to build Vehicle Monitoring, helping owners take action sooner, reducing the stress and legwork of untangling a VIN fraud incident.' CARFAX Canada estimates that there are over 372,000 potentially cloned VINs in Canada 2. VIN cloning, or 're-vinning' is a form of auto fraud where the identity of a legitimate vehicle is stolen and used to mask a stolen or salvaged one. This issue continues to be a problem for Canadians, as approximately 69,000 vehicles were reported stolen in 2024. 3 Innocent Canadians whose vehicle identification has been stolen may experience consequences such as vehicle seizure by authorities, denial of insurance coverage for repairs or theft, a significant drop in resale value, inability to sell or trade in the vehicle, or even being wrongly associated with someone else's criminal activities. 'CARFAX Canada's Vehicle Monitoring tool marks yet another important step forward in combating VIN fraud,' said Ontario's Associate Solicitor General for Auto Theft and Bail Reform, Zee Hamid. 'By equipping owners with early detection tools and leveraging the Canadian Border Services Agency's critical data, CARFAX Canada enhances transparency and security in the vehicle marketplace. I commend their efforts to safeguard Canadians and Ontarians from the impacts of auto fraud.' CBSA Data: New Data Source In a move to further enhance VIN fraud detection measures, CARFAX Canada has integrated CBSA's export data into their Vehicle History Reports at no additional cost. The sharing of this critical data aims to curb VIN fraud across the country by helping CARFAX Canada detect potential VIN fraud with greater precision. "In addition to the comprehensive data already available on CARFAX Canada Vehicle History Reports, the addition of export data will make them an even more powerful tool for car dealers, buyers, insurers, law enforcement agencies and governments to detect potential VIN fraud,' said Vording. 'CARFAX Canada provides fraud checks on vehicles that are registered in North America and now, through the addition of the CBSA data, can also detect fraudulent VINs that have left North America. If a VIN continues to have Canadian history show up on the report after it's been exported to another country, that's a red flag. A vehicle should not be generating Canadian activity such as getting an oil change or being involved in an accident once it's supposedly overseas.' "Working with CBSA is a testament to the power of collaboration between the private sector and government to safeguard Canadians," adds Vording. "Gaps in data create opportunities for criminals, and CBSA's data is critical to our commitment to help close some of those gaps, making it harder for criminals to get away with VIN fraud." Tackling auto fraud requires a coordinated, industry-wide response. Through cooperation with dealers, law enforcement and all levels of government, the addition of new data partners, and the delivery of tools like VIN Fraud Check for dealers and Vehicle Monitoring for consumers, CARFAX Canada remains committed to enhancing transparency and strengthening security across Canada's vehicle marketplace. Datadog Named a Leader in the 2025 Gartner(R) Magic Quadrant(TM) for Observability Platforms

Positioned based on its Ability to Execute and Completeness of Vision New York, New York--(Newsfile Corp. - July 10, 2025) - Datadog, Inc. (NASDAQ: DDOG), the monitoring and security platform for cloud applications, today announced it has been named a Leader in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Observability Platforms, 2025. This is the fifth consecutive year Gartner has positioned Datadog as a Leader in the Magic Quadrant. The Gartner Magic Quadrant for Observability Platforms is a culmination of the Gartner research of the application performance monitoring (APM) and observability market. A Magic Quadrant provides a graphical competitive positioning of four types of technology providers, in markets where growth is high and provider differentiation is distinct: Leaders execute well against their current vision and are well positioned for tomorrow; Visionaries understand where the market is going or have a vision for changing market rules, but do not yet execute well; Niche Players focus successfully on a small segment, or are unfocused and do not out-innovate or outperform others; Challengers execute well today or may dominate a large segment, but do not demonstrate an understanding of market direction. Customer feedback is vital to Datadog's product innovation. Below are two recent reviews of Datadog from the company's profile on Gartner Peer Insights ™: "Datadog provides incredible insights into complex tooling. They continue to innovate and add new features regularly throughout the year, and their CSM [customer success management] team is very responsive and helpful," said a Senior Director of Engineering at a software company. "The user interface is very clean and easy to use, even with a tremendous amount of data and features. The APM and USM [universal service monitoring] features have been invaluable additions to our observability and helping us remediate issues quickly. The Watchdog feature has also been terrific for proactive alerting of things that didn't have specific monitors set up." "The insights that we're able to get by building custom metrics within Datadog have been invaluable. We've managed to catch behaviors within our application that we otherwise wouldn't have caught, and it's helped us create a more reliable experience for our customers," said an SRE Engineer at a healthcare and biotech company. "It is significant for us to see Gartner name Datadog a Leader in its Magic Quadrant for Observability Platforms for a fifth straight year," said Yanbing Li, Chief Product Officer at Datadog. "Product innovation and R&D continue to be key focus areas for us as both Datadog and our customers embrace AI to build and improve applications, workflows and cloud environments. We look forward to working with our user base to further our product strategy and leadership in the market." Minister Ramokgopa unveils R509 million budget to enhance government accountability

Minister Maropene Ramokgopa presents the 2025 Budget Vote for Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation at Parliament in Cape Town, emphasizing the importance of accountable and evidence-based governance. Image: Supplied Minister Maropene Ramokgopa has announced a R509 million budget for the Department of Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation (DPME) in a move aimed at bolstering government accountability and fostering economic growth, as she presented the budget to Parliament in Cape Town. Supported by Deputy Minister Seiso Mohai, Minister Ramokgopa outlined the Department's strengthened focus on implementing the National Development Plan (NDP) Vision 2030 and the recently approved Medium-Term Development Plan (MTDP) 2024–2029. 'Over the past few years, attempts have been made to strengthen the mandate of DPME through the Planning Bill. We are now shifting focus and considering a White Paper process which will enable us to clarify a cohort of questions that have been raised by various stakeholders within and outside of government,' said Minister Ramokgopa. The MTDP 2024–2029, approved by Cabinet in February 2025, is already being rolled out. Its strategic priorities include driving inclusive economic growth and job creation, reducing poverty and addressing the high cost of living, and building a capable, ethical, and developmental state. 'Successful implementation of the MTDP must be demonstrated through the achievement of its set targets and improved living conditions of citizens. It is not enough to plan, we must see results, and we must be held accountable for those results,' she emphasised. Minister Ramokgopa stressed the importance of aligning national, provincial, and local planning processes, starting with integration efforts in the Northern Cape. She highlighted the Department's pivotal role in reforming State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs). The National State Enterprises Bill (B1-2024) proposes a centralised shareholder model to improve governance and performance across SOEs. Video Player is loading.
