Authorities seized over 870 kilograms of chemically tainted paste containing harmful additives like Titanium Dioxide and Mono Citrate, both banned by FSSAI. An arrest was made, highlighting the dangers of adulterated spices and the importance of food safety regulations. Indian curries are incomplete without the aroma and flavors of ginger-garlic paste. Unfortunately, this essential spice blend has come under scrutiny for adulteration. According to a recent report by The Hindu, over 870 kilograms of adulterated ginger-garlic paste was seized during a raid at an illegal ginger-garlic paste manufacturing unit operating under the name FK Food Product in Patel Nagar, Bandlaguda, Hyderabad. An arrest has been made, who was involved in the illicit preparation and sale of chemically adulterated ginger-garlic paste to general stores as well as directly to customers in the area. As per the food safety officials, harmful additives such as Titanium Dioxide and Mono Citrate were being used in the production of the paste, which are banned in food production under the guidelines of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). The officials seized four kilograms of Titanium Dioxide, 16 kilograms of Mono Citrate, and four kilograms of turmeric powder used to enhance the colour of the product. What does FSSAI Say? As per the FSSAI , Titanium Dioxide shall be a white, tasteless, odourless, infusible powder and shall conform to the requirements in the specific food item. What is Titanium dioxide? How to do purity check at home It is said that to assess the purity of ginger-garlic paste, one should look for a bright ivory color and the fresh aroma and taste of ginger and garlic. And one should avoid paste with mold, discoloration, slimy texture, or a foul odor, as these are signs of spoilage. Appearance: Make sure that the paste should have a light color, not be discolored or have any signs of mold or mildew. Texture: The paste should be smooth and consistent, not slimy. Smell: A fresh and good paste will have the characteristic aroma of fresh ginger and garlic. Taste: The paste should taste fresh and pungent, not bitter or stale. Read Ingredients: While buying packaged ones, make sure to read the ingredients listed on the packaging. A pure paste should primarily contain ginger and garlic, with minimal or no added preservatives or artificial ingredients. Man arrested after 870 kg adulterated ginger-garlic paste is seized in Hyderabad

A man was arrested, and over 870 kilograms of adulterated ginger-garlic paste was seized during a raid at an illegal ginger-garlic paste manufacturing unit operating under the name FK Food Product in Patel Nagar, Bandlaguda on Tuesday (June 3). The accused was identified as Mohammed Faisal, 44, a resident of Patel Nagar, who was involved in the illicit preparation and sale of chemically adulterated ginger-garlic paste to general stores as well as directly to customers in the area. Officials found that Faisal was operating the unit from his residence, manufacturing the paste using harmful additives such as Titanium Dioxide and Mono Citrate, which are banned in food production under the guidelines of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). The operation, carried out by the South-East Zone Task Force team and Bandlaguda Police, also led to the seizure of four kilograms of Titanium Dioxide, 16 kilograms of Mono Citrate, and four kilograms of turmeric powder used to enhance the colour of the product, all worth ₹1.4 lakh. Further investigation is underway.
