Monster trucks return for freestyle event at Scotia Speedworld
Brianne Foley heads to Scotia Speedworld to get a preview of the upcoming World Series of Monster Trucks. Monster Jam returns to Scotia Speedworld this weekend, bringing the best in monster truck competition to Nova Scotia. Jimmy Creten, who drives the truck 'Bounty Hunter,' said two monster truck promoters are in Canada and he's grateful to be back on the East Coast. 'Very few people are able to do motorsports for a living,' Creten said. 'A lot of people do it for a hobby. We're really very fortunate.' The judge for this year's Monster Jam is Dennis Anderson, the driver of the legendary truck 'Gravedigger.' 'I am one of the main creators and pioneers of freestyle monster truck competition,' Anderson said. He'll be joined by a competitor who proves monster trucks aren't just for boys. Dawn Creten, who drives 'Scarlet Bandit,' said she had to prove herself when she started in the sport 27 years ago. 'It was a little more stressful back then,' Dawn said. Now she said she looks forward to meeting the fans. 'It's cool having little girls come up to you and boys that are like, 'Oh, my god, I want to be like you.'' Creten said there are new fans every year. This year families are able to climb onto a truck and feel the power up close. Monster Jam runs Friday to Sunday at Scotia Speedworld, along Highway 102 outside Halifax in Goffs. For more Nova Scotia news, visit our dedicated provincial page

The ‘experience of a lifetime': Monster Jam returns to Edmonton
A pink unicorn doesn't normally inspire wild cheering from a stadium full of people, unless that unicorn happens to be on top of a monster truck. Monster Jam is back in Edmonton with a lineup of eight oversized competitors from Grave Digger and Jurassic Attack to Sparkle Smash, the aforementioned unicorn. This year, a new competitor will be speeding and stunting around Rogers Place, Classroom Crusher. 'It's a truck that is just too cool for school, it's a school bus that is 12,000 lbs., 12 feet tall, 1,500 horsepower,' said Camden Murphy, the driver of Classroom Crusher. 'It's going to be a blast.' Murphy is known for being the driver of Bakugan Dragonoid and got the chance to premier Classroom Crusher in San Diego in January. Murphy is looking forward to 'jumping high through the sky, doing back flips, getting wild and crazy out of the track.' (Dave Mitchell/CTV News Edmonton) The tricks drivers are coming up with at Monster Jam University are helping propel the level of competition to the highest it's ever been, according to Murphy. 'Over the last five years, Monster Jam has gone to whole new heights,' he added. 'Balancing these trucks on the front two tires, side two tires, it's the wildest thing. 'If you've never seen it, you have to come out to Monster Jam. It is an experience of a lifetime.' His advice to attendees: bring some ear plugs, just in case. The event runs Saturday and Sunday at Rogers Place, with tickets available online. There is also a pit party where drivers will be signing autographs and taking pictures and attendees will have the chance to see the trucks up close.

Pittsburgh woman accused of trespassing at Acrisure Stadium, assaulting officers
Police accuse a Pittsburgh woman of trespassing in Acrisure Stadium and assaulting officers multiple times while being detained. Jacquayla Desje Jackson, 31, is charged with seven counts of aggravated assault, four counts of assaulting a law enforcement officer, public drunkenness, defiant trespassing and related charges in connection with a May 17 incident during Monster Jam. In court records, police say Jackson was seen going through a gate without scanning a ticket and without complying with stadium staff. Jackson reportedly ignored orders from police and continued to walk away toward a locked entrance to the seating area. She pushed an officer who was trying to detain her and was taken to the ground as a result. Jackson proceeded to punch, kick and spit on officers and medics while being detained, police say. After being sedated by medics, Jackson was taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital to be evaluated. Download the FREE WPXI News app for breaking news alerts. Jesse Williams' hacker appears to have an affinity for Sean 'Diddy' Combs.
