Miami Valley law enforcement sees fallen Morrow County deputy off on journey home
DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — Law enforcement from across the state was in downtown Dayton to honor the life of a fallen brother. Morrow County Deputy Daniel Sherrer was shot and killed on Memorial Day while responding to a domestic violence call at a residence south of Marengo, a community of fewer than 300 people approximately 35 miles north of Columbus. Sherrer, 31, had been a Morrow County deputy since May 2021. 'We pulled together': Turner highlights Sinclair's role in NATO assembly sessions On Wednesday, members of the law enforcement community gathered to honor Sherrer's ultimate sacrifice as the ambulance carrying his body departed the Miami Valley Regional Crime Lab for Morrow County. The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office attended the procession, and said Sherrer will be remembered for his selfless act by his brothers and sisters in law enforcement as well as the very community he served. 'This was a domestic violence call,' said Major Jeremy Roy, Montgomery County Sheriff's Office chief of staff. 'He is there to save that person who is being victimized and he unfortunately made the ultimate sacrifice with his life. 'It's one of those things that I don't think the community ever shies away from. They understand what that means. And you'll see them line up from the procession the day to his funeral, things like that, just to come out and say thank you.' Expected to be charged in the case is Brian Michael Wilson, 53, of Marengo, who was struck during the shootout. Court records showed a warrant for an aggravated murder charge has been filed against him, and an affidavit described the encounter that led to Sherrer's death. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. Montgomery County man sentenced to prison after using app to share child sexual abuse material
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — A Montgomery County man has been sentenced to serve more than a decade in prison after he pleaded guilty to sharing child sexual abuse material, officials said. The guilty plea stems from an incident that took place in February 2023, which is when officers with the Clarksville Police Department reportedly received information that CSAM was being sent through a file sharing app from an IP address in Montgomery County. Man indicted for sexual exploitation of a minor in Putnam County After sharing details with the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, authorities discovered that numerous images had been shared from the address. According to District Attorney General Robert Nash, MCSO detectives identified that the IP address was connected to the home of Kevin Hewins. A search warrant was later executed at Hewins' home and several electronic devices were seized. Nash said detectives analyzed the devices and 'discovered thousands of saved images of child sexual abuse material.' On Monday, May 19 Hewins pleaded guilty to several charges including: Aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor over 25 images, sexual exploitation of a minor over 100 images, and aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor. Hewins was sentenced to serve 12 years in the Tennessee Department of Correction without the possibility of parole. Nash added Hewins will be on the sex offender registry for life.
