Aurat March stands with director Jami

Aurat March has issued a statement in support of filmmaker Jamshed Mahmood, widely known as Jami, following his conviction under Pakistan's criminal defamation laws. In an Instagram post, Aurat March said, "Pakistan's criminal defamation laws are a powerful tool to silence survivors of sexual violence and their allies." The group added, "Jami's conviction under these unjust laws is a reminder that the legal system does not support survivors, it punishes them." The current case began at the Lahooti Melo festival in 2019, where Jami read out a letter written by an alleged victim of sexual harassment targeted by a "music video and TVC director". He later posted about it without naming anyone. However, he shared a screenshot from another victim's account, which had Sohail Javed's name in it. Javed subsequently filed a PKR1 billion defamation suit against Jami, claiming that the public reading of the statement had damaged his reputation and caused him "mental torture." On July 8, a sessions court in Karachi found Jami guilty of criminal defamation and sentenced him to two years in prison. The verdict drew criticism from activists and the creative community, who argued that the conviction would discourage survivors and their supporters from speaking out. Both parties were previously ordered by the court to maintain the status quo and refrain from further public statements about the case. On Thursday, the Sindh High Court granted bail to Jami. In 2015, Jami's film Moor was selected as Pakistan's official entry for the Academy Awards and bagged a screening at the 46th edition of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI). "It's slightly abstract for a Pakistani audience. Critically, it's one of the best, but financially, it's probably the worst right now. The film was not for the masses, and we had 11AM screen timings. I mean, nobody would come on a weekday at 11AM. We were sidelined as an art film," Jami told IANS after the film's release.

Ireland batter Peter Moor announces retirement from International cricket

New Delhi [India], July 11 (ANI): Ireland batter Peter Moor has announced his retirement from international cricket at the age of 35 on Friday. He made 85 international appearances before calling time on his career, according to ESPNcricinfo. Moor, born in Harare, had started his international career with Zimbabwe before moving to Ireland. He played his last international match in February earlier in the year- in the one-off Test against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo. In November 2014, during an ODI against Bangladesh in Mirpur, Moor made his international debut for Zimbabwe. Against New Zealand and Afghanistan, he made his Test and T20I debuts in 2016, respectively. All of his 49 ODIs and 21 T20Is, as well as his eight Tests, were played for Zimbabwe. He qualified to play for Ireland in October 2022, as he held an Irish passport due to his paternal grandmother's Irish heritage. He was first selected in their squad for the Test tours of Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in March-April 2023. He went on to play seven Tests for Ireland. 'I still believe I've got three or four years of good cricket in me at the top level. Even though I might have missed out on a few World Cups for Zimbabwe in the last few years, I hope I can play for Ireland at the next one,' Peter Moor said as quoted from ESPNcricinfo. However, Moor never played an ODI or a T20I for Ireland. His Test performance also dipped after he moved there: he had averaged 35.53 with five fifties in eight Tests for Zimbabwe, but only 14.35 with one half-century for Ireland. The only fifty for Ireland, though, came in a victory against Zimbabwe in July 2024. In his 85 outings in international cricket, the batter slammed 1925 runs with 11 fifties to his name at an average of 22.91. Moor retired as one of 17 cricketers to have played Tests for two different countries. (ANI)

Ireland star Curtis Campher makes history by taking five wickets in five balls

The Warriors were 87-5, chasing the Red's 188-7, when Campher struck with wickets from the last two balls of the 12th over, and the all-rounder completed a hat-trick when he had fellow Ireland international Andy McBrine caught at the start of the 14th. The Reds skipper, who famously claimed four Dutch wickets in four balls at the 2021 T20 World Cup, did so again when he removed Robbie Millar, and went one better by bowling last man Josh Wilson. 'Because of the change of overs, I wasn't really sure what was happening,' he said. 'I just stuck to my guns and kept it simple and luckily it kind of went off.' Despite his extraordinary feat, Campher did not lead the Reds off at the Pembroke club, that honour went to Peter 'PJ' Moor, who has announced his retirement and was playing his final game in Ireland before returning to Zimbabwe. Moor played 15 Test matches — eight for Zimbabwe and seven for Ireland — and was on the winning side against the country of his birth in the last two. 'With no Test cricket on the horizon, I have decided to move on with my life,' Moor said. 'The Test in Harare in February was a fitting way to end my international career.'

EQB names Open Text chief financial officer Chadwick Westlake as next CEO

TORONTO – EQB Inc. has named Open Text chief financial officer Chadwick Westlake as its next chief executive, succeeding Andrew Moor, who died unexpectedly last month. Westlake, who will assume the role effective Aug. 25, is a former chief financial officer of EQB, which owns Equitable Bank. EQB board chair Vincenza Sera says Westlake knows the business inside and out and is uniquely positioned to uphold the company's culture and innovation mindset. Marlene Lenarduzzi, who was named interim president and CEO at EQB after Moor died, will remain in the job until Westlake joins the company officially. She will return to her role as chief risk officer once he is in place. Moor grew EQB into Canada's seventh-largest bank during his nearly two-decade tenure at the helm and was a strong proponent for Canada to adopt an open banking regime that could increase competition.
