School's new pitch 'fantastic' thanks to teamwork from local companies
PUPILS at Moresby School can now enjoy a new and improved play and sports field – thanks to its teamwork with two local companies.
The three-year project has seen a large section of the school's field levelled out, with improved drainage, to ensure it can be used by the school's 106 pupils all year round.
G & AM Lawson carried out the work at cost, while staff from AtkinsRealis volunteered to manage the complex planning process free of charge.
Staff from both companies were invited to join the children, along with Workington AFC's Darren Edmondson, Billy Redden, Brian Dawson and Cieran Casson, for a celebratory afternoon of activities on Monday, July 14.

Headteacher Ross Peacock said: 'The field has improved dramatically thanks to the excellent work carried out by G & AM Lawson and AtkinsRealis.
'We are committed to providing our children with quality facilities across the curriculum, and we're delighted that we now have a fantastic pitch available for games lessons, after-school sports clubs and for playing on at lunchtimes.
'It was a longer process than any of us initially expected, but the final outcome is well worth it. We are incredibly grateful for the support we've had from G & AM Lawson and AtkinsRealis who, between them, took the initial dream and made it a reality.'
Paul Sullivan, of AtkinsRealis, said: 'It was fantastic to see the children enjoying the activities on their new sports field on the open day. We were delighted to support Moresby School in getting their planning permission, supplying key information and supporting documentation. We had a team throughout the planning period, those included: Emily Dixon, Sam Wordsworth, Sarah Hilton, Lauren Coulson and myself.'
