Will The Gilded Age Stage a Crossover With Downton Abbey in Season 4? ‘There's an Opportunity To,' EP Says
With the third season of The Gilded Age ending this Sunday, and the third Downton Abbey movie hitting theaters next month, we couldn't help but wonder… when the heck are these two Julian Fellowes-created franchises finally going to collide? It's a question we've been asking since The Gilded Age first premiered in 2022, but now that Gladys (Taissa Farmiga) has married into British nobility, the time feels more appropriate than ever. Come on, who didn't get Downton vibes from the Duke's house? More from TVLine The Gilded Age Boss Breaks Down Oscar's Tragic Outburst - Does Agnes Know the Truth About John Adams? The Gilded Age Shocker: Morgan Spector Was 'Thrilled' by Episode 7's Jaw-Dropping Ending House of the Dragon Adds Annie Shapero as Alysanne 'Black Aly' Blackwood in Season 3 'Well, obviously there's an opportunity to [stage a crossover], because they are both in England,' Fellowes tells TVLine. 'Things like the shooting season or whatever would incorporate many great houses for all of these families, as they would travel around England. We can bring about a conjunction whenever we wish, really, but we haven't got one planned yet, so we'll have to see.' To be fair, this is a much more encouraging answer than executive producer Gareth Neame gave us when we spoke with him back in The Gilded Age's first season. '[A crossover is] not in the thinking at all,' Neame says. 'It's a separate universe, but they're both fictions set in the 1880s. Downton Abbey, in its own fiction, was definitely there. A younger version of the Maggie Smith character would be living there, I guess. But it's not really planned.' A younger version of Smith's iconic Dowager Countess? Hey, he said it, not us. Wouldn't it be fun, if even as a fleeting cameo, to catch a glimpse of someone from the Crawley family on The Gilded Age? The first season of Downton Abbey began with the sinking of the Titanic in 1912, meaning it takes place less than 30 years after the current season of The Gilded Age, which would put the Countess somewhere in her 40s. Just something to think about. Gilded Age fans, would you like to see the show collide with the world of Downton Abbey, even if it's just a nod? Drop a comment with your thoughts below. Did The Gilded Age kill off George Russell? Morgan Spector reacts to shocking scene
The Gilded Age served its most shocking moment yet in Season 3 Episode 7 as George Russell, played by Morgan Spector, found himself at the center of a brazen assassination attempt, reports Decider. In a terrifying scene that concluded the episode, a delivery man entered Russell's office and opened fire, taking down his aides before turning the gun on the powerful railroad magnate himself. As the screen went black, audiences were left reeling, with the fate of "Train Daddy" hanging in suspense. So, is Russell dead? Now, Morgan has dropped hints about his character's fate, and the answers are intriguing, to say the least. When Variety asked Morgan Spector, 'How worried should we (viewers) be for George?', the actor did not keep mum. 'You should be very worried,' he replied. 'In the 19th century, gunshot wounds from up close were extremely dangerous. Many people didn't survive them. I don't have a contract for next season yet, so who knows?' he added. Though his comment raises concerns, not having a season four contract might simply spark speculation about his character's fate. But it does not confirm anything, so fans should not lose hope just yet. Reflecting on the chilling parallels between fiction and real-world events, Spector shared a striking observation about The Gilded Age's timely relevance. "When I read the script, it wasn't that long after Luigi Mangione shot the United Healthcare CEO. I was like, ['The Gilded Age' creator] Julian Fellowes is clairvoyant. It redoubled my sense that there's a way that this show, however subtly, however quietly, is really in dialogue with our current moment, simply by virtue of there being structural similarities between the two eras," he said. "Both of these time periods have massive wealth and massive inequality. Both of them are characterized by industrial titans who are kind of swinging the state around by its tail. The consequences of that can be violence," he added. The Gilded Age Season 3 is nearing its close, with only one episode left after the gripping Ex-Communicated. Next week's episode is the season finale. But fans can breathe easy, as HBO has officially confirmed that the period drama is not ending just yet. The Gilded Age will return for a fourth season soon. The Gilded Age mixes fiction with fact. While some parts are dramatized, many characters and events are inspired by real history. As of now, seven episodes of Season 3 have aired and are available to watch on HBO Max. Yes, in July 2025, the series was renewed for a fourth season.

The Gilded Age Shocker: Morgan Spector Was ‘Thrilled' by Episode 7's Jaw-Dropping Ending
This might come as a shock to you, but Morgan Spector tells TVLine that he's 'thrilled' with how Sunday's episode of The Gilded Age ended. The penultimate hour of Season 3 went out with a bang, ending with a moment that surely left every viewer's jaw on the floor. 'I have a delivery for Mr. George Russell,' announced a seemingly innocent courier — that is, until he pulled out a gun. After shooting poor Jones, he turned his weapon towards George and fired. Bang. More from TVLine House of the Dragon Adds Annie Shapero as Alysanne 'Black Aly' Blackwood in Season 3 The Gilded Age Renewed for Season 4 Ahead of Finale The Gilded Age EPs Defend That Tragic Twist in Episode 6: 'I Jumped Out of My Skin When I Watched It' So, why is Spector 'thrilled' that his character is entering next week's season finale on death's door? He has a few reasons actually: First, he simply says, 'that happened,' meaning that it was a historically accurate threat that would theoretically be looming over George's head. (Look no further than the 1872 murder of robber baron Jim Fisk.) But even with its historical accuracy, George's shooting 'just didn't feel like the kind of thing that would happen on The Gilded Age,' he admits, not unlike the shocking carriage accident that unexpectedly killed John Adams last week. And that's what Spector loves about it. 'I'm thrilled the more we get to expand the world.' He thinks of it as 'adding colors to our palette.' Carrie Coon notes that this expanding of the show has been a running theme all season. 'It started with how we kicked things off in the Wild West [in the season premiere],' she tells TVLine. 'It was signaling to the audience that this is not Season 2. We're doing new things.' Also worth discussing from Season 3, Episode 7… * John Adams left Oscar a house and money in his will as a token of their love, and in his grief, Oscar nearly revealed the nature of their relationship to Agnes and Ada. * Led by Mrs. Astor, the ladies of New York society froze out Ward McAllister after his tell-all book exposes their most private affairs, name changes aside. * The Russells' staff set a successful trap for Miss Andre, eventually revealing her to be the mole. * Larry attempted to convince Marian that nothing of ill repute went down at the haymarket, with even Jack coming to his defense while Marian helped him shop for a proper rich man's house. * George told Bertha that her ambition is out of control. (What else is new?) * The Duke proved his devotion to Gladys by suggesting that Lady Sarah find her own place to live. (Finally!) * William's mother learned about Peggy's tragic past, passing along the information to her son, who decided to speak with Peggy himself before making any major decisions. * George got Clay fired by his new employer. (Gee, could Clay have had something to do with George getting shot?) OK, let's talk: Which twist ending shocked you more, last week's carriage crash or this week's shooting? And how heartbreaking was Oscar's near-outing? We have a lot to discuss ahead of next week's finale, so drop a comment with your thoughts below. We know you've got 'em.
