Days after announcing 25% tariff on India, Trump threatens to substantially raise tariff on India, says Russian oil purchases will...

Donald Trump- File image New Delhi: US President Donald Trump on Monday threatened to substantially raise tariffs on India for purchasing oil from Russia. In a Truth Social post, Trump, however, did not elaborate on what kind of tariffs those would be. 'India is not only buying massive amounts of Russian Oil, they are then, for much of the Oil purchased, selling it on the Open Market for big profits. They don't care how many people in Ukraine are being killed by the Russian War Machine,' Trump wrote in his social media post. 'Because of this, I will be substantially raising the Tariff paid by India to the USA,' he added. Earlier, Stephen Miller, one of Trump's most influential advisors, said that the US President clearly believes India should stop buying Russian oil. 'What he (Trump) said very clearly is that it is not acceptable for India to continue financing this war by purchasing oil from Russia,' Miller said on Sunday Morning Futures. He, however, said that Trump's relationship with Prime Minister Narendra Modi is 'tremendous'. Last week, the US President said he would impose a 25 per cent tariff on goods imported from India, along with a penalty for buying Russian oil. Meanwhile, government sources have clarified there is no pause on the oil imports from Russia. According to sources, 'India's energy purchases are driven by national interests and market forces. We do not have any reports of Indian oil firms halting Russian imports'. Trump has threatened 100 per cent tariffs on countries that buy Russian oil unless Moscow reaches a major peace deal with Ukraine. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said last week that 'You are aware of our broad approach to energy sourcing requirements, that we look at what is available in the market and the prevailing global situation. We are not aware of any specifics'. India sources its oil purchases based on global market offerings to meet its energy. 'Our ties with any country stand on their merit and should not be seen from the prism of a third country. As far as India-Russia relations are concerned, we have a steady and time-tested partnership,' said the MEA spokesperson.

'Not Acceptable': Trump Aide Slams India Over Russian Oil Imports, Accuses New Delhi Of Funding Ukraine War

Days after imposing a 25 per cent tariff on Indian goods, a senior aide to US President Donald Trump criticised India for continuing to buy Russian oil and accused it of indirectly financing Russia's war in Ukraine. Trump's deputy chief of staff, Stephen Miller, a key advisor to Donald Trump, stated that the former president firmly believes India must halt its purchase of Russian oil. 'What he (Trump) made absolutely clear is that it is not acceptable for India to keep financing this war by buying oil from Russia,' Miller said on Sunday Morning Futures. On Fox News, Miller said, "People will be shocked to learn that India is basically tied with China in purchasing Russian oil. That's an astonishing fact." Meanwhile, India has not yet responded to the matter.

Intercepted communications reveal Iran sought to downplay damage from US strikes: Report

President Donald Trump has stated that the strikes 'completely and totally obliterated' Iran's nuclear capabilities. However, US officials have noted that a full evaluation of the damage will require additional time read more A satellite image shows damage to the tunnel entrances of the Isfahan Nuclear Technology Research Center, following U.S. airstrikes amid the Iran-Israel conflict, in Isfahan, Iran, June 22, 2025. File image/ Reuters Intercepted Iranian communications sought to minimise the level of damage caused by recent US raids on Iran's nuclear facilities, according to The Washington Post, citing four sources familiar with sensitive material shared inside the US government. A separate source, speaking to Reuters on condition of anonymity, confirmed the report but expressed scepticism about the credibility of the intercepted communications, describing them as unreliable indicators of the true extent of the damage. The Post report adds to ongoing uncertainty over the impact of the strikes. A leaked preliminary assessment from the Defense Intelligence Agency suggested that the attacks may have only delayed Iran's nuclear program by a few months. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD President Donald Trump has stated that the strikes 'completely and totally obliterated' Iran's nuclear capabilities. However, US officials have noted that a full evaluation of the damage will require additional time. The White House rejected the Post report. 'The notion that unnamed Iranian officials know what happened under hundreds of feet of rubble is nonsense. Their nuclear weapons program is over,' White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told the Post. In a Fox News interview broadcast on Sunday, Trump reiterated his position that the strikes were highly effective. 'It was obliterated like nobody's ever seen before. And that meant the end to their nuclear ambitions, at least for a period of time,' he said during the Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo program.

Trump says ‘getting along well' with China, downplays apparent hostile acts

US President Donald Trump says the US is getting along well with China, even though "they are paying substantial tariffs". PHOTO: AFP Trump says 'getting along well' with China, downplays apparent hostile acts WASHINGTON - US President Donald Trump on June 29 dismissed the importance of actions linked to Beijing that are deemed to be aggressive , including recent arrests of two Chinese nationals accused of smuggling a dangerous pathogen into the United States, saying 'that's the way the world works.' Mr Trump told Fox News that Washington behaves in a similar way. 'You don't think we do that to them? We do, we do a lot of things,' he said on the Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo show. 'That's the way the world works. It's a nasty world.' Mr Trump was responding to a question about how he viewed Chinese intellectual property theft, hacking of the US telecoms system and controversy around the Covid-19 pandemic. He likewise dismissed concerns over a case in which two Chinese nationals were accused in June of smuggling in a toxic fungus. Yunqing Jian, 33, and Zunyong Liu, 34, are charged with conspiracy, smuggling, false statements, and visa fraud. The US Justice Department said the pair conspired to smuggle into the United States a fungus called Fusarium graminearum that causes 'head blight,' a disease of wheat, barley, maize, and rice. Mr Trump downplayed this saying, 'you don't know where that came from, though. I mean, did that come from the country, or is that three wackos that happened to carry something?' Referring to the ongoing US-China trade war, Mr Trump appeared to signal he was satisfied, saying 'We're getting along well with China.' He added: 'I think getting along with China is a very good thing, but they are paying substantial tariffs.' This past week the White House signalled trade progress with China, with an official saying both sides have reached an understanding on issues including expediting rare earth shipments to the United States. After talks in Geneva in May, Washington and Beijing agreed to temporarily lower steep tit-for-tat tariffs on each other's products. Kristi Noem and DHS quietly remove list of Sanctuary cities just days after its launch on web after GOP outcry

The Department of Homeland Security has quietly removed from the web a list of 500 sanctuary jurisdictions around the country it accused of 'shamefully obstructing' the Trump administration's deportation plans after pushback from some GOP strongholds that were included on it. Cities, counties and states across the U.S. were targeted by the department in the list, including those who claimed to be outspoken supporters of President Donald Trump's immigration policies. The National Sheriffs' Association also issued a statement Saturday criticizing the list, saying that it 'lacks transparency and accountability.' Its president, Sheriff Kieran Donahue, said that the list was created without any input from sheriffs and 'violated the core principles of trust, cooperation and partnership with fellow law enforcement.' The list was taken down over the weekend and the original link to the web page now reads: 'Page not found.' Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem was asked about it by Fox News host Maria Bartiromo on Sunday Morning Futures. 'I saw that there was a list produced,' Bartiromo said. 'Now, the list I don't see anymore in the media. Do you have a list of the sanctuary cities that are actually hiding illegals right now?' Noem did not directly acknowledge the list being taken down from the department's website. The department previously said the sanctuary jurisdictions 'are deliberately and shamefully obstructing the enforcement of federal immigration laws endangering American communities.' 'Some of the cities have pushed back,' she said Sunday. 'They think because they don't have one law or another on the books that they don't qualify, but they do qualify. They are giving sanctuary to criminals.' Republican strongholds griped after finding themselves on the list. Jim Davel, administrator for Shawano County, Wisconsin, said the inclusion of his heavily GOP community must be a clerical error. 'We have no idea how we got on this list whatsoever right at this point,' Davel said. 'I think it was just a big mix up, probably some paperwork or something.' Communities said the list didn't make sense. In California's Orange County, the city of Huntington Beach was on the list even though it has sued the state over its policies that protect immigrants and its City Council supports Trump. But the nearby city of Santa Ana, which has policies to protect members of its sizable immigrant community, was not. The Las Vegas government said it believed it was included in the list due to a 'misunderstanding.' 'The city of Las Vegas has never designated itself as a sanctuary city,' the statement said. 'We are not sure why DHS has classified Las Vegas in the manner it has. We hope to have conversations with those at the federal level to clear up this misunderstanding.' Immigrants' rights organizations condemned the administration's action as 'unconstitutional and immoral.' 'Labeling sanctuary policies as 'lawless insurrection' is not only inflammatory—it is legally baseless and a reckless distortion of the rule of law,' said Jessica Inez Martínez, director of policy and coalition building at New Mexico Immigrant Law Center.
