Casablanca, Toulouse Renew Strategic Partnership As Moroccan-French Relations Deepen

Casablanca – In a significant step forward for Moroccan-French relations, the cities of Casablanca and Toulouse have officially renewed their cooperation agreement. The two parties said they hope this renewed pact will usher in a new era of bilateral collaboration focused on sustainable development, culture, education, economic exchange, and climate action. The renewed partnership was formalized on July 7, 2025, during a high-level meeting between the Mayor of Casablanca, Nabila Rmili, and her Toulouse counterpart, Jean-Luc Moudenc, President of Toulouse Métropole. The event, held at the Wilaya of Casablanca, brought together senior municipal and consular officials from both cities, including French Consul General Pascale Trimbach and key members of the Casablanca City Council. 'In Casablanca, ville amie , Morocco's economic capital… We concretize these exchanges today with the signature of the renewal of the partnership between Casablanca and Toulouse,' Mayor Moudenc wrote on X, highlighting the cultural and economic ties being revitalized through this new accord. Originally signed in 2017, the cooperation agreement between the two cities had seen limited follow-through. However, both delegations emphasized their 'shared will' to breathe new life into this partnership through 'concrete and impactful projects.' The signing signals not only a municipal commitment but also reflects the broader warming of diplomatic ties between France and Morocco, particularly following a significant political gesture made by French President Emmanuel Macron on July 30, 2024, recognizing Morocco's sovereignty over the Sahara. The business school, with deep roots in both Toulouse and Morocco, was presented as a symbol of academic synergy and cross-cultural engagement. We're witnessing the revival of a strategic alliance,' said Nabila Rmili, underlining Casablanca's openness to international partnerships in a fast-globalizing world. Orlando Pirates news: 8 signings confirmed, Saleng latest

From no signings in January to suddenly welcoming a flurry of established stars, Orlando Pirates recently broke the news of five arrivals. AmaZulu FC winger Tshepang Moremi and Stellenbosch midfielder Sihle Nduli, along with Sinoxolo Kwayiba, Yanela Mbuthuma, Masindi Nemtajela, Sipho Mbule, Tshepo Mashiloane, and Nkosikhona Ndaba will report for duty on July 1. Each player is a star in their own right, signifying a remarkable seven-player haul by the Buccaneers, who are desperate to end Mamelodi Sundowns' eight-year PSL reign. With two additional attackers joining the ranks, things are not looking good for Monnapule Saleng's future at Orlando Pirates. However, it will be fascinating to see how the new coach, Abdeslam Ouaddou, handles the situation. If the Moroccan-French manager wants to keep him, he could act as a peacemaker between the player and the club. Saleng hasn't featured for the Buccaneers since December 7. Meanwhile, Ouaddou is reportedly keen on a reunion with Marumo Gallants striker Junior Zindigo, a player Orlando Pirates have previously tried to sign. 'He was doing well before he picked up an unfortunate injury,' a source revealed. 'But even then, several clubs were monitoring him, Pirates included. Now that they're coached by someone who knows him well and is a big fan of his style, there's definitely a stronger possibility.' Merci Dix : A thank you and farewell to Morocco's iconic Mercedes Taxis

The Mercedes-Benz 240D has served as Morocco's primary taxi vehicle for decades, becoming an integral part of the nation's urban transport system since the 1970s and 1980s. These yellow diesel vehicles have dominated city streets across major Moroccan centers, with many accumulating over one million kilometers of service. NOWNESS, a global video platform that showcases artfully produced short films celebrating contemporary culture, design, fashion, and storytelling from around the world, highlighted Morocco's fading taxi heritage through director Matthew Trainor's documentary «Merci Dix». The latter captures the final chapter of these vintage vehicles after government modernization efforts have dramatically reduced the classic fleet, leaving only six Mercedes 240D taxis operational in Marrakech. Ibrahim Ahissou, who has operated taxis in Marrakech for 30 years, drives one of the remaining vintage Mercedes vehicles. «The old taxis are better than the new ones», Ahissou explains, reflecting the sentiment of drivers who prefer the reliability of the classic diesel engines over modern alternatives. The documentary, named after the Moroccan-French expression meaning «thanks times ten», a phrase that, when said quickly, also echoes «Mercedes», showcases the cultural significance of these sun-bleached vehicles as they face systematic replacement. It also honors what once defined Marrakech's transportation landscape and marked Moroccan urban life.
