India Reaffirms Commitment to Bolster Strategic Cooperation with Morocco

Speaking at a reception organized by the Embassy of Morocco in New Delhi to mark the 26th Throne Day, Chaudhary reiterated India's commitment to maintaining high-level dialogue with Morocco, with a view to consolidating a multidimensional relationship poised to grow stronger in the coming years. The celebration brought together over 350 guests, including members of the Moroccan community in India, representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in New Delhi, senior officials from India's Ministry of External Affairs, and distinguished Indian figures from diplomatic, economic, academic, artistic, and cultural circles—reflecting the vitality and diversity of the Morocco-India partnership. He emphasized the increasing importance of human and cultural exchanges between the two nations, as well as the steady growth of trade relations, and highlighted several promising areas to further strengthen this partnership, including renewable energy, agriculture, the automotive industry, pharmaceuticals, agri-food, hospitality, and digital technologies. The Indian minister also stressed the need to bolster cooperation in skill development, noting that India's expertise in digital infrastructure and social transformation could offer new avenues for collaboration with Morocco. Representing the Indian government, Chaudhary also underscored Morocco's key role as a strategic crossroads, stating that in an ever-evolving globalized world, only countries that are open, inclusive, and receptive to innovation and change will be able to adapt and thrive. Referring to Morocco's hosting of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2030 FIFA World Cup, Chaudhary noted that such events present an exceptional opportunity to foster intercultural dialogue, bring people closer together, and celebrate excellence, ambition, and the human spirit. India, Morocco Boost Bilateral Ties with Shared Vision for Stability, South-South Cooperation

Rabat – As India grows into a central player in global affairs, shaping conversations from the G20 to BRICS, its partnership with Morocco stands out as a steady and purposeful alliance grounded in pragmatism and mutual respect. While the two countries operate in distinct geopolitical spheres, they converge on a shared vision for a more equitable and interconnected world. Whether in matters of economic development, counter-terrorism, or renewable energy, the Morocco-India relationship shows a model of South-South cooperation that is aspirational as well as action-driven. A senior diplomat from the embassy of India in Rabat described this relationship as one built on trust, shared ambitions, and a long-standing sense of mutual respect. In an exclusive conversation with Morocco World News (MWN), the official talked about the evolving bond between the two countries and how it responds to regional needs and global shifts. The diplomat spoke warmly of Morocco's place in India's international outlook. 'India and Morocco share a time-tested and resilient partnership built on deep mutual respect, strategic convergence, and shared quest for the well-being and prosperity of our citizens,' the official said. 'We value its stability, moderation, and deep ties to multiple regions.' This appreciation goes beyond diplomacy. It reflects a broader alignment of values, development without exclusion, growth with dignity, and security rooted in cooperation. Strategic shift since 2015 Much of the current momentum traces back to a key moment in 2015, when King Mohammed VI met Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the Third India-Africa Forum Summit in New Delhi. That meeting, according to the diplomat, gave the two sides the political clarity needed to pursue deeper engagement. What followed was not symbolic. Since then, the two countries have signed over 40 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) in areas ranging from education and renewable energy to counter-terrorism and vocational training. More than 35 high-level visits have taken place, each reinforcing a shared commitment to move forward, not just in words but in practical terms. 'Our cooperation reflects a real sense of purpose,' the diplomat affirmed. 'India and Morocco are partners in South-South cooperation, especially in the context of Africa.' India views Morocco as a gateway to Africa, a country that knows its region and navigates it with confidence. At the same time, Morocco sees in India a partner with scale, experience, and global weight. 'Morocco brings depth to our African engagement. It knows the ground realities. It offers credibility. And it does so with consistency,' the official added. Partnership built on common ground The diplomat also pointed to Morocco's involvement in initiatives such as the Voice of Global South Summit as an example of how the country lends moral and political weight to issues that often fall off the radar of the world's major powers. 'We see ample opportunity for collaboration in jointly addressing development challenges at multilateral forums, such as shaping global supply chains and promoting a peaceful, rules-based world.' In one notable example of warm ties, Moroccan Minister of Industry and Trade Ryad Mezzour, during the 10th edition of the 'Vibrant Gujarat' investors' summit in Gandhinagar in January 2024, noted the potential for a deeper partnership between Morocco and India. He pointed to South-South and triangular cooperation as promising frameworks for collaboration, particularly in driving industrialization and economic development. Trade figures from 2021 reflect the strength of this economic relationship, with India exporting goods worth $931 million to Morocco, including broadcasting equipment, automobiles, and synthetic filament yarn. Moreover, India's growing role in global platforms like the G20 and BRICS has created more space for Morocco to assert itself as a meaningful interlocutor. With ties across Africa, Europe, and the Arab world, Morocco brings a multidimensional perspective to the table. The Indian diplomat saw this as a strength, not a complication. 'Morocco has positioned itself as a model of moderation, progress, and stability in the region.' Security also forms a key pillar of the relationship. The two countries treat terrorism and radicalization as serious threats, not abstract challenges. Joint initiatives focus on intelligence sharing, capacity building, and youth engagement. But beyond statecraft and strategy, the relationship draws from something simpler, a sense of familiarity. As both countries look ahead, the official expressed confidence in the direction of the partnership. Tags: bilateral tiesMoroccomorocco indiastrategic cooperation
