Wyoming man arrested for Motel 6 stabbing

Jun. 5—A 68-year-old man was arrested in Wyoming on Wednesday for allegedly stabbing a man earlier this week at the Motel 6 in Clarkston. Thomas R. Krogman, 68, of Gillette, Wyo., is charged with first-degree attempted murder in Asotin County Superior Court. He is accused of attacking a 72-year-old man Monday morning in the lobby of the motel on Bridge Street. Police have determined Krogman is the brother-in-law of the victim. Krogman was taken into custody by the Gillette Police Department, based on a warrant issued by the Asotin County Prosecutor's Office and Clarkston Police Department. He will be transported to Asotin County to face the charge. Clarkston police were able to develop information and evidence that led to the arrest, according to a news release issued by Police Chief Josh Daniel. Police determined it was a personal attack and not a random incident, Daniel said. The investigators are still working on a motive and whether there are any accomplices. The victim, Daniel Henry, is the motel manager. Henry was last listed in stable condition after suffering multiple stab wounds, including one to the face, according to the probable-cause affidavit. When the suspect walked into the motel, he reportedly asked Henry if he remembered him. The manager said "not really," police reported in the affidavit. The man pulled a knife and first stabbed Henry in the right side of his head. He also grabbed a phone off the counter and threw it, according to the report. Daily headlines, straight to your inboxRead it online first and stay up-to-date, delivered daily at 7 AM After police arrived, witnesses at the scene described the suspect, saying he parked on the 400 block of Third Street in a red sedan before entering the motel. He sat in his car for about 10 to 15 minutes before heading toward the front office. A few minutes later, a witness saw the man running back to his vehicle and then driving east on Bridge Street. Henry was reportedly stabbed eight times during the incident. According to the probable-cause affidavit, Henry is also from Wyoming. After the red car's license plate was identified in surveillance videos, it came back to Thomas and Phyllis Krogman in Gillette. When questioned by police, Henry said Thomas Krogman is his brother-in-law. He had not seen him in approximately six years, but his sister, Phyllis, had contacted him recently by phone, according to court documents. During those conversations, his sister brought up an incident that happened 60 years ago, he told police. Based on the investigation, it appears Thomas Krogman was in Clarkston on Monday, driving a red Chevy Malibu. He matched the description of the suspect in the stabbing case and was identified by the victim during further questioning. According to police, Krogman reportedly drove home to Wyoming, where he was arrested on the Class A felony charge. Prosecutor Curt Liedkie is handling the case for the state of Washington. Chief Daniel said he appreciates the Lewiston Police Department for help on the case. The LPD used its new FLOCK cameras and automated license plate recognition system to locate the suspect vehicle. Daniel also complimented the Gillette Police Department for the swift response and apprehension of Krogman. "The collaboration and cooperation by all law enforcement agencies involved shows a committed effort to keep each community safe," Daniel said. Sandaine can be reached at kerris@

Motel 6 tenant fatally shot after confrontation with Garland police and SWAT; second person found dead in hotel room

A Motel 6 tenant was fatally shot Wednesday afternoon after pointing a gun at Garland police officers and a standoff with SWAT, authorities said. Garland police were called to the Motel 6 located at 12721 LBJ Freeway for a "disturbance" between a hotel tenant and management. Officers said they tried to speak with the tenant, who pointed a firearm at them. Garland PD said the officers took cover, and due to the "high-risk nature of the situation," SWAT was called, detectives obtained a warrant for the tenant, and nearby hotel rooms were evacuated. SWAT team negotiators tried to communicate with the tenant, Garland PD said, but the suspect refused. Garland police said that after negotiation attempts failed, the SWAT team sent tear gas into the room and try to force the suspect to surrender. As SWAT team negotiators approached the room's window, the suspect confronted one of the team members with a firearm from inside the room, the report states. Garland PD said the officer fired his department-issued rifle and struck the suspect. The SWAT team then entered the room and found the suspect had been fatally shot. A second person, already dead, was found in the room. Garland PD said initial observations suggest the second person had been dead for "some time prior to the incident." No officers were injured, and Garland PD has not identified the suspect or the second person in the room. The Garland Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the suspect's actions and the death of the second person discovered in the room.

Wascally wabbit! Cops hunt for pot lover who hid weed-filled Easter eggs around Texas town — and posted clues online

Texas police are on the hunt for a real bad egg. Cops in Lufkin are 'actively searching' for a man they say filled plastic Easter eggs with small amounts of marijuana and hid them around the city for anybody to find — including a young girl who found one while at a park with her grandfather. 3 Avante Nicholson, 23, is being sought by Lufkin, Texas police after allegedly hiding plastic Easter eggs full of weed around the city. Lufkin Police Department After hiding the eggs, Avante Nicholson, 23, went on social media to post pictures and hints guiding searchers to the location of each — which he stashed in three local parks and behind a Motel 6. Upon receiving a tip from a resident who saw the online posts, officers scoured Nicholson's Facebook page and went on a scavenger hunt of their own — quickly finding the weed-filled eggs at Morris Frank, Winston and Grace Dunn Richardson Parks, as well as the one behind the motel. In total, cops said Nicholson hid about a quarter-ounce of weed in the city two hours north of Houston. One photo he posted showed five eggs on the seat of a vehicle, but officers initially believed he hadn't gotten around to hiding the fifth. However, the elusive fifth egg was found the following day by a man and his granddaughter, who brought it to the police station, cops said. 3 The eggs were hidden around several local parks and behind a Motel 6, cops said. Lufkin Police Department After scanning through his Facebook posts, police found multiple references to selling drugs, as well as a statement that whoever 'shopped' with him the day he hid the eggs would get clues to their locations. 'Incidents like this are a reminder of why take seriously all information called in to our offices,' Lufkin Police Chief David Thomas said in a statement. 3 Cops said Nicholson posted photos and clues to help searchers find the illicit eggs. Lufkin Police Department 'On the surface, it seems implausible that someone would give away a drug, but the follow up proves that sometimes even the most unlikely things do happen. 'The safety of our community is at the forefront of everything we do. And in cases such as this, when it endangers children, we are even more vigilant.' Nicholson's rap sheet includes several weapons and drug offenses, including unlawful carrying of a weapon, fraud, engaging in organized criminal activity and possession of between two and four ounces of marijuana. Lufkin Police have issued four felony warrants against Nicholson following his illicit weedster egg hunt, three for delivery of marijuana in a drug-free zone and a fourth for a state jail felony for delivery of marijuana. Recreational cannabis is illegal in the state of Texas, which also has a more stringent medical marijuana policy than many states which have legalized in recent years.

Scavenger hunt turned manhunt? Police say a man hid Easter eggs with weed in city parks

Texas police are searching for a man who they say hid plastic eggs full of marijuana in parks as part of a scavenger hunt, and offered clues to people who bought drugs from him the day of the event. The man, 23-year-old Avante Nicholson, posted about the eggs on Facebook, almost like he was hosting a 'scavenger hunt,' police said in a news release. The eggs were allegedly hidden on April 20 in three city parks and a motel in Lufkin, about 133 miles northeast of Houston. He also said those who bought drugs from him that day would get clues on how to find the eggs, police said. Police have issued four felony warrants for Nicholson's arrest: three for delivery of marijuana in a drug-free zone, and one for the delivery of marijuana. Police said someone called in a tip about Facebook posts Nicholson allegedly made. Officers found eggs in Morris Frank, Winston and Grace Dunn Richardson parks, as well as one behind a Motel 6. According to police, Nicholson allegedly posted a photo of five plastic eggs inside a vehicle, as well as photos containing hints as to where participants could find the eggs. According to police, they found four eggs and the next day, a man and his granddaughter at Winston Park found a fifth egg and took it to the police station. Police searched the Facebook page that posted the clues, then confirmed it belonged to Nicholson. They also saw references on his page to selling narcotics, as well as posts that said customers who 'shopped' with him the day of the scavenger hunt would get clues about the eggs. Police said the eggs contained more than a quarter of an ounce of marijuana. According to the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML), Texas marijuana laws are as follows: Sale or delivery of 7 grams of marijuana or less (as a gift) - Misdemeanor punishable by up to 180 days imprisonment and fines up to $2,000. Sale or delivery of 7 grams of marijuana or less - Misdemeanor, punishable by imprisonment of up to 1 year and fines up to $4,000. Sale or delivery of between 7 grams and 5 pounds of marijuana - Felony punishable by a mandatory minimum sentence of 180 days imprisonment, a maximum of two years imprisonment, and fines up to $10,000. Sentences go up from there, according to the organization. 'Incidents like this are a reminder of why (we) take seriously all information called into our offices,' Lufkin Police Chief David Thomas said in the news release. 'The safety of our community is at the forefront of everything we do. And in cases such as this, when it endangers children, we are even more vigilant.'
