Sean 'Diddy' Combs Denied Release on Bail After Mogul Was Acquitted of Most Serious Charges
On Wednesday, the New York judge overseeing Sean 'Diddy' Combs' federal sex trafficking and racketeering trial ruled that Combs would not be released on bail while awaiting sentencing after he was found guilty of two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. The decision to keep the fallen hip-hop mogul locked up in a Brooklyn federal prison comes after a surprise split verdict announced Wednesday that saw the rapper and mogul convicted of the lesser two of five charges in a federal indictment that brought one of the most sensational trials in years to a lower Manhattan courthouse. After the verdict was read Wednesday, Combs' lead defense attorney told the court Combs should be freed today, given that he was no longer under indictment for the major crimes the government said he committed. Prosecutors cried foul on this, arguing he was a flight risk and meddler, even while in the Brooklyn lockup he's called home for about a year. Both sides were instructed to write letters to the judge making their case for bail by 1 p.m. ET today. Prosecutors also stated that they would pursue an aggressive sentencing that could put Combs away for two decades. Judge Subramanian cited Combs' history of violence as a main reason for denying him bail. As prosecutors undoubtedly showed during his trial, he has a decades-long propensity for violence, particularly toward women, which takes place in private. The video footage of Combs beating Cassie Ventura, which was shown at least a dozen times in court, certainly displays this, and Combs subjected his girlfriend 'Jane' to a violent attack as recently as 2024, the court heard over the past few weeks. When this occurred, Combs had already been indicted and had his homes raided by authorities. All sides in the case were told by the judge to return to court on Oct. 3 for sentencing; that date could move up if the defense team and Combs seek to expedite his sentencing process. The defense is seeking a term of 21 to 27 months for Combs while the feds hope for 51 to 63 months. Combs will get credit for the time served. ‘Mozart Mozart': New Series Puts Composer's Forgotten Sister Center Stage (Exclusive Trailer)
Bavaria Media and Beta Film have joined forces on Mozart Mozart, a six-hour drama that reimagines the legacy of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart through the eyes of his (real-life) sister, Maria Anna Mozart. The series, from the creators of German costume drama hit Sisi, has received a first-season commission from German public broadcaster ARD and Austria's ORF. More from The Hollywood Reporter Zurich Film Festival Embarks on New Era With Director-Led Buyout A Young Iranian Singer Makes Her Voice Heard in 'Bidad' (Exclusive Karlovy Vary Trailer) Foo Fighters Are Back With First Song Since 2023 to Celebrate 30th Anniversary Set in the late 18th century, the series centers on Amadeus' sister, Maria Anna Mozart, portrayed by Havana Joy (Love Sucks), who steps into her brother's shoes after his dismissal from the Salzburg court threatens the family's future. When Wolfgang, played by Eren M. Güvercin (Druck, Eldorado), proves too volatile to secure favor at the court of Emperor Joseph II, Maria Anna disguises herself as her brother, captivating Vienna's elite and drawing the envy of Mozart's rival, Antonio Salieri. Her deception grows increasingly complex as she attempts to maintain the ruse, protect her family's reputation and navigate her relationship with Salieri. The series stands apart from the upcoming English-language series Amadeus, which Sky has commissioned in the U.K., and will see White Lotus actor Will Sharpe play Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. That drama is a reimagining of Peter Shaffer's 1979 stage play Amadeus, which inspired Milos Forman's 1984 Oscar-winning adaptation. 'What we definitely didn't want to do was a remake of Amadeus,' Mozart Mozart showrunner Andreas Gutzeit, who created the series and co-wrote it with Swantje Oppermann (Dignity), tells The Hollywood Reporter. 'The desire is to tell a new story for a younger audience, and to tell the forgotten story of Maria Anna, who was a musical genius of her own, perhaps as talented, or more so, than her superstar brother.' 'Mozart's sister isn't a secret, but we don't know much about her life, other than she was also a child prodigy and that she and Amadeus toured together to every royal court in Europe at the time,' notes Clara Zoë My-Linh von Arnim, who is directing the series. 'But she had the misfortune of being a woman and then, when she turned a marriageable age, she was dragged off the stage, in the truest sense of the word. There is a lot of speculation on how big her influence was on Amadeus' music, on his compositions, over the years.' Jessica De Rooij, who composed the award-winning music for Sisi, is back for Mozart Mozart, giving Mozart's iconic compositions a contemporary edge for the show. Gutzeit and Jens Freels (Dignity) serve as executive producers, with Simona Weber producing. The ensemble cast includes Eidin Jalali (The Swarm, Maxton Hall), Verena Altenberger (Wild Republic), Peter Kurth (Babylon Berlin), Philipp Hochmair (Freud), Sonja Weisser (Maxton Hall), Lisa Vicari (Next Level) and Annabelle Mandeng (Vikings: Valhalla). Produced by Gutzeit's Story House Pictures in co-production with ARD, ORF and The Dreaming Sheep Company, Mozart Mozart is being sold internationally by Bavaria Media and Beta Film. Scooter Braun Steps Away From CEO Role at HYBE
Scooter Braun is transitioning his role at HYBE, the South Korean entertainment giant, moving from CEO of HYBE America to an advisory position that will have him joining the HYBE Board of Directors as a director and a senior adviser to chairman Bang Si-Hyuk. The move marks the end of a five-year run at HYBE, which is home to such K-pop acts as BTS and Katseye. The news was announced to HYBE staffers on Monday when Braun dialed in from his vacation to notify employees that the move was 'in the works for quite some time,' according to a source who adds that the five-year plan was initiated with the sale of Braun's Ithaca Holdings to HYBE in 2021. Braun will remain active in current HYBE projects, like the just-launched girl group Katseye. Braun intimated that he 'isn't going anywhere' and will 'still help guide' the artists on the HYBE roster. During the call, Braun shared with the staff that when he set out for a career in music 25 years ago, it was after reading his friend David Geffen's biography The Operator. Today, as he closes the latest chapter of his career, he reminded his colleagues of what he's learned from Geffen: 'Follow your dreams and anything can happen.' More from The Hollywood Reporter 'Mozart Mozart': New Series Puts Composer's Forgotten Sister Center Stage (Exclusive Trailer) Foo Fighters Are Back With First Song Since 2023 to Celebrate 30th Anniversary What the Hell Happened With the Sean "Diddy" Combs Verdict? Braun built his business managing music artists like Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, J Balvin, Demi Lovato and The Kid LAROI under the SB Projects banner. In 2024, he stepped away from the management business, announcing his decision on social media, where he noted, 'I have been blessed to have had a 'Forrest Gump'-like life while witnessing and taking part in the journeys of some of the most extraordinarily talented people the world has ever seen. I'm constantly pinching myself and asking 'how did I get here?'' The exit from management coincided with a split from Bieber, which turned contemptuous, as THR reported in April, due to financial consequences triggered by the cancellation of Bieber's Justice tour in 2022. In not fulfilling his contractual obligation to AEG (the tour's promoter) and completing the concert dates, for which he received a $40 million advance, Bieber was left owing more than $20 million to AEG. Then-manager Braun, through his company, covered what was owed in the form of a loan at a highly favorable (to Bieber) rate. In addition, the two were partnered in a number of other businesses including a record label and film projects. Braun also helped secure a $200 million catalog deal for Bieber's songwriting interests, possibly the largest nest egg in music history for an artist under 30. (Worth noting: Hailey Bieber, who married Justin in 2018, recently sold her Rhode Beauty skin care brand to e.l.f. Beauty for $1 billion; Braun was a seed investor.) The settlement between Braun and Bieber is now completed says a source, who adds that Braun's last act at HYBE was to close the book on the squabble. Reps for Bieber and Braun declined to comment on the settlement. Stepping into the CEO position in Braun's place and leading all day-to-day duties is Isaac Lee, who has been chairman of HYBE Latin America since November of 2023. Lee's new title is chairman and CEO of HYBE Americas. In addition to running HYBE's operations in Mexico, Miami and Medellín, Colombia, Lee will also have oversight of Nashville-based Big Machine Label Group (BMLG) and Quality Control Media Holdings, headquartered in Atlanta. While Braun's next move is unclear, HYBE chief Bang Si-Hyuk commented, 'Scooter has been an extraordinary partner, a visionary executive, and a true catalyst for cultural exchange. His contributions have been vital in establishing our ambitious presence in the U.S. market. I am deeply grateful for his leadership, his astute instincts and his unwavering passion for artists. We wish him immense success in his exciting next chapter and look forward to continuing our partnership in executing HYBE's global vision.' Braun also remains one of HYBE's largest individual shareholders. In announcing his new role, Braun said: 'Being a part of HYBE and witnessing its remarkable growth has been one of the most inspiring chapters of my professional journey. Chairman Bang is a true visionary and a musical genius. What he has built with HYBE is unparalleled. I am incredibly proud of our collective accomplishments and look forward to supporting Chairman Bang and CEO Jason Jaesang Lee in their continued success as I step into what's next.'
