Women's Month: Female law enforcers lead Ermelo road safety drive
As part of Women's Month celebrations, the Mpumalanga Department of Public Works, Roads and Transport (DPWRT) rolled out a women-led law enforcement operation on Friday, August 8.
The focus was on road safety and public transport regulations on the N2.
The MEC for public works Thulasizwe Thomo, joined this operation, which brought together a team of female transport inspectors, SAPS members, traffic officers and fire brigade units. Thomo said SAPS provided support and enforcement during the operation.

'The traffic officers monitored road safety and issued fines to non-compliant operators while the fire brigade unit checked fire extinguisher compliance on heavy vehicles and public transport.'
The operation aimed to ensure public transport operators comply with the National Land Transport Act. 'By doing so, the department aims to contribute to reducing the risk of accidents and improving road safety, ensuring public transport operators adhere to regulations and standards, as well as demonstrating the department's commitment to safety and regulation,' Thomo said.

Thomo added that they salute the courageous and committed women who were not just participating, but leading these operations with excellence. 'Similar operations will continue across the province throughout Women's Month, highlighting the department's commitment to empowering women in law enforcement and promoting road safety,' he added.
