Harsh diets for ‘non-existent' waists & diva-designers sewing celebs into ‘no-pee' outfits – dark truth of the Met Gala
IT'S fashion's biggest night out - but it's also fashion's wildest. The Met Gala is upon us - and while us normal folk only see celebrities climb up the iconic stairs in their lavish outfits, storms of drama are unfolding behind the scene. 11 11 11 The annual event, which is held every year on the first Monday in May, is a charity event and fundraiser (for The Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute, hence the name) with a star-studded guest list. However, it's notoriously hard for celebrities to receive an invite. Take Kim Kardashian, 44, for example, who was snubbed for years and only made her debut when ex-husband Kanye West, 47, invited her as a plus one in 2013. Year after year, the event raises eight-figure sums and takes on a different theme for celebs to dress in line with. This year's dress code theme is Superfine: Tailoring Black Style. But it's not all sunshine and rainbows. In fact, squeezing celebrities and models into their outfits (which cost more than the average person's salary) has proven pretty dark over the years for some. A former Met Gala stylist has exposed all the dark truth on what it really takes to get these stars into their glad rags and onto the iconic red carpet. From extreme dieting for non-existent waistlines to diva designers, she revealed all to Fabulous … No-pee Outfits One year, Bella Hadid was sewn into an outfit and essentially told to 'shut up and look pretty', according to our Met Gala source, who helped style stars on the carpets for years. She claims that around the time that the supermodel, 28, was breaking onto the scene, she secured a major designer to dress her for the event. However, the designer allegedly refused to give the Victoria's Secret Angel a choice in what she wore, telling her 'she wouldn't even be pictured on the red carpet' if she wasn't wearing a big name. 11 'Essentially, she just had to shut up and look pretty,' our source claims. When the designer created an outfit that Bella had to be sewn into, it raised questions on how she was going to be able to go for a wee on the night. 'She had to sit through make-up and do the red carpet and the meal without a wee,' our source says. 'She was too terrified to even drink water and was in pain for holding the pee in.' Extreme Measures Kim Kardashian has been very candid about her extreme diet and workout regimes to fit into her mind-boggling Met Gala outfits. She lost an eye-watering 1st 2lb (7.3kg) in three weeks to fit into Marilyn Monroe's iconic "Happy Birthday, Mr. President" dress for the 2022 event. The reality-TV star told Vogue: "I would wear a sauna suit twice a day, run on the treadmill, completely cut out all sugar and all carbs, and just eat the cleanest veggies and protein. I didn't starve myself, but I was so strict." And then again for the 2024 Met Gala, the 44-year-old gave hourglass a whole new meaning by incorporating an extremely tight corset into her metal dress, sparking concerns over her 'non-existent waist'. Fans were worried the mum-of-four had 'ribs removed' and questioned 'where her guts are stored' after she slipped into a jaw-droppingly tight dress for fashion's biggest event. It came just a month after Kardashian fans were worried she had 'displaced' her organs after squeezing into a skintight Mugler corset for an Instagram post. Toilet Sexcapades Despite spending a whole day having full teams of staff get them into their finery, some celebs are keen to get their kit off as soon as they get to the event. Our Met Gala source claims that celebrities having sex inside the event is a common occurrence. Those who want to partake will sneak off to the toilet and leave their glad rags on the floor to get down and dirty. Celebrities have definitely had sex at the event, in the loos... and it's not with the partners they came with Former Met Gala Stylist 'It's not always with the partners they came with,' our source says. 'I remember a supermodel did one year, like back in the day. 'And two huge Nineties stars who'd co-starred in a couple of movies together hooked up at the event one year.' Our source also claims that in one recent year, two young sisters from a big TV show were 'absolutely wasted' and propositioned various male actors for a threesome. Fashion Under Investigation At the 2021 event, US politician Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, 35, made headlines when she wore a white dress with the words 'TAX THE RICH' scrawled across the back. She was placed under investigation by a nonpartisan watchdog on the premise that she may have violated congressional rules by accepting gifts to attend fashion's biggest night. The probe was centred around the payments for the dress she rented to attend the prestigious event. Alexandria denied any wrongdoing. The investigation found that she did not pay her £359.35 ($477) hair styling and make-up bills until several months after the event. The Office of Congressional Ethics (OCE) stated that "there is substantial reason to believe that Rep. Ocasio-Cortez accepted impermissible gifts associated with her attendance at the Met Gala in 2021". And while most of the celebrities in attendance are gifted their outfits and styling teams to represent designers, this goes against political rules for the likes of Alexandria. Naked Number One Long before other A-listers dared to bare on the Met Gala carpet, there was Cher, 78. The Believe singer paved the way in 1974 with her sheer 'naked illusion dress' that was covered in silver crystals and embellished with white feathers on the sleeves and bottom of the dress. The outfit caused the venue to go 'crazy', and sparked uproar amongst the public in the days that followed. 11 11 Designer Bob Mackie recalled of the fateful night: 'People were horrified, they thought, 'that's not fashion, she's just naked at the Metropolitan'. 'I've never seen so many photographers just come out of the shadows at the Met and take her picture. And of course she was in every newspaper the next day. They've been printing it in the last 50 years, over and over again.' Now, we have the likes of Lil Nas X, 26, who turned up to the 2021 Met Gala in nothing but a silver thong and his skin covered in silver paint and crystals. Smoking In The Loos We all know that smoking tobacco puts you at risk for cancer, stroke, heart attack, lung disease and other health issues. But that doesn't stop the Met Gala's A-List attendees from sparking up in the toilets. 11 Sneaky pictures from inside the 2017 event show celebrities touting the law to smoke cigarettes inside. And they were bold enough to post photos showing them doing so. Paris Jackson, 27, posted a photo of Bella Hadid, 29, exhaling smoke with a cigarette between her fingers, while Rita Ora, 34, shared a shot of Dakota Johnson, 35, lighting up. At the time, the fine for smoking in a banned area in New York City was $100 - but given how rich Met Gala's invite list is, that was likely tuppence to them.

Love is in the air: DC's iconic bald eagle couple expecting hatchlings soon
The Brief Bald eagles Mr. President and Lotus are expecting, said D.C. Fisheries and Wildlife Biologist Dan Rauch. The eagles gained a large following because of a 24/7 web cam that captured their activity while living in a previous nest in years past. It's the latest chapter in a remarkable comeback story for America's national bird. WASHINGTON - Valentine's Day may have been last month but at the National Arboretum, love is still in the air – literally. What we know You can expect more of the nation's bird to be flying above the Capitol before long. Reason being, as first reported by the Washington Post, D.C.'s favorite eagle couple, Mr. President and Lotus, appear to be expecting again. "We got to see an eagle kind of standup and they shuffled their feet around a little bit, and they'll actually dip their beak down to maneuver their egg to roll it and get proper position and sit back down again," explained Dan Rauch, fisheries and wildlife biologist for D.C. "Eagles are the ultimate conservation story." Dig deeper Back in the 1960s, Rauch said the country was down to fewer than 500 pairs of breeding eagles in the lower 48 states. However, because of pesticide bans and conservation efforts, the eagles came back. There are now more than 70,000 breeding pairs in the lower 48, Rauch said, and he told FOX 5 that in the District, there are at least three nests in D.C.-proper and 26 nests in the region overall. What's next Rauch said Mr. President and Lotus' egg (or eggs) are likely to hatch between April 9 and 11. The Source Dan Rauch

Ólafsson and Wang prove opposites attract at Symphony Hall
Ólafsson's performance attire of round glasses and natty but comfortable blazer could be described as 'chic professor,' while Wang's stagewear, much like her playing, wanted attention and was unafraid to seize it. Friday evening, she appeared in two gowns; a sparkly number reminiscent of Marilyn Monroe's 'Happy Birthday, Mr. President' dress, and a more avant-garde indigo piece with a high slit up the right thigh — the side facing the audience when she sat down, naturally. (She doesn't do coincidences.) Need I tell you who brought paper sheet music and a page turner, and who had scores on an iPad? Get Starting Point A guide through the most important stories of the morning, delivered Monday through Friday. Enter Email Sign Up But while Ólafsson and Wang might make for strange bench-fellows, they were anything but at odds in their approach to their two-piano program. The program of mostly 20th-century repertoire was characterized by an invigorating sense of playfulness and exploration, a feeling in which they were absolutely united. The twin pianos were situated with the keyboards lined up end to end at center stage, while the bodies of the instruments pointed outward in opposite directions. Wang's instrument was in front, and accordingly she ruled over the higher range of the keyboard, while Ólafsson more often held down the rhythmic foundations in the rear. Heard against Wang's pianistic fireworks, which sparked the keys into rapidly blooming cascades of notes, Ólafsson's tone was mellow, smooth, rounded: water implacably murmuring over stones. Advertisement The dusky beauty of Schubert's Fantasie in F Minor was followed up with a midcentury avant-garde twofer; John Cage's 'Experiences No. 1' and Conlon Nancarrow's No. 6 from 'Studies for Player Piano' — the latter arranged for human piano players by Thomas Adès. The Cage piece demanded surreal synergy, and the two delivered; the piece's irregular phrases didn't feel like they ended so much as they vanished into wormholes. In the Nancarrow, Ólafsson reveled in the bass line's askew rhythms while Wang's vaudevillian melody cartwheeled and leaped through the air. Pianists Víkingur Ólafsson and Yuja Wang performing a two-piano program at Symphony Hall on Friday. Robert Torres In the past decade, both pianists have been muses for new concertos from American composer John Adams, who was represented on the program via the perpetual-motion vortex that is his 'Hallelujah Junction.' Here, in passages where the scores for the two pianos only differed by rhythmic offset, were the contrasts between Wang and Ólafsson illuminated most vividly. Both seemed to tap into volcanic energy, but where Wang's gestures exploded up and out, a la Vesuvius, Ólafsson gave the impression of a glowing molten overflow; two different flavors of unstoppable force, and woe to the would-be immovable object in their way. In the program's final piece, Rachmaninoff's two-piano arrangement of his own orchestral 'Symphonic Dances,' Ólafsson displayed the same propriety, care, and attention to detail with which one might converse in a second language, while Wang played with the fluent nonchalance of a native speaker. Ólafsson Advertisement There, they laid down two Brahms waltzes, then a Dvorak dance, then a Schubert march, and finally back around to Brahms. Some concertgoers (understandably) thought the show was over after the third encore, and they made it out the door into the brightly lit hallway before the opening strains of the Hungarian Dance No. 1 reeled them back in. Whenever Yuja Wang is involved, you can't be sure it's over until the house lights go up. VÍKINGUR ÓLAFSSON AND YUJA WANG Presented by Celebrity Series of Boston. At Symphony Hall, Feb. 21. A.Z. Kim Kardashian Panics As She Struggles To Breathe In Tight Met Gala Corset
Beauty may be pain, but for , her 2024 Met Gala look took things to a whole new level. On the latest episode of Hulu's "The Kardashians," the 44-year-old opened up about just how uncomfortable and claustrophobic she felt in her waist-cinching corset, which left her struggling to breathe. Kim Kardashian is no stranger to suffering for style, having famously worn a corseted Thierry Mugler gown to the 2019 Met Gala and crash-dieted to fit into Marilyn Monroe's dress in 2022. For fashion's biggest night, Kardashian stepped onto the Met Gala red carpet in a silver brocade corset designed by John Galliano for Maison Margiela. The structured bodice was paired with an extravagant skirt made from tooled silver metal, featuring flowers, leaves, pearls, mirror fragments, and crystals, which was a dazzling nod to the event's 'Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion' theme. While the look was undoubtedly breathtaking, many fans questioned how she managed to squeeze into the corset without crushing her internal organs. As it turns out, Kardashian nearly did just that. At the start of the episode, Kardashian appeared confident and upbeat about her controversial fashion choice. 'I'm not as uncomfortable as I might look,' she assured viewers. 'It's definitely a performance piece. I mean, God bless the Bridgerton cast that has to dress like this every single day. That would be so difficult.' But her optimism quickly faded as the night went on. After the event, while standing inside a limo with close friend La La Anthony, Kardashian began to panic when she realized she couldn't get the corset off. As Anthony struggled to help loosen the constricting garment, Kardashian's discomfort spiraled into full-blown distress. 'I am claustrophobic,' she confessed in a confessional. 'I've never felt this way before, where I feel like I can't breathe.' The discomfort became overwhelming. 'It's like I can handle it for so long, but I have to pee, I can't breathe, I can't get this off,' she recalled. 'I was like, I'm going to die if you don't get this off of me right now.' Back in the limo, Kardashian doubled down on her discomfort. 'I've never been more uncomfortable,' she admitted. 'I really feel like I can't breathe.' Once back at her hotel, Kardashian finally freed herself from the corset, only to find that her back was bruised and covered in deep indentations from the extreme tightness of the garment. But despite the pain, panic, and physical toll, Kardashian had zero regrets about wearing the eye-catching ensemble. 'Abso-f-cking-lutely,' she told the cameras when asked if the look was worth it. Ultimately, she summed up her dedication to fashion in one simple statement, 'That's just who I am. If you look good, it's all worth it.' Kim Kardashian made headlines at the 2022 Met Gala when she stepped onto the red carpet in Marilyn Monroe's legendary 'Happy Birthday, Mr. President' dress, a historic fashion moment that quickly turned into a heated controversy. The dress, designed by Jean Louis and originally worn by Marilyn Monroe in 1962, became an iconic piece of pop culture history when Monroe serenaded President John F. Kennedy at Madison Square Garden. The gown, made of sheer, nude-colored fabric and hand-embroidered with over 2,500 crystals, was famously so tight that Monroe had to be sewn into it before performing. It was later purchased by Ripley's Believe It or Not! Museum for $4.8 million in 2016, making it one of the most expensive dresses ever sold at auction. Kim Kardashian, known for going all out for the Met Gala, was determined to wear the actual 60-year-old garment, but there was one problem. It didn't fit. Instead of choosing an alternative, Kardashian embarked on an extreme crash diet, revealing that she lost 16 pounds in three weeks to fit into the dress. 'I tried it on, and it didn't fit me. I said, 'Give me three weeks,'' she told Vogue. 'It was like a role. I was determined to fit into it.' Her transformation involved cutting out carbs and sugar completely, running on a treadmill in a sauna suit, and strictly eating clean meals. While some praised the tribute to Monroe, others were outraged by Kardashian's decision to alter her body just to fit into a historical artifact.
