Nicki Minaj brings up Drake while reigniting tension with SZA

Nicki Minaj continued her public feud with singer SZA this week, making a series of controversial remarks online, including an eyebrow-raising comment about rapper Drake. The tension between the two artists stems from Minaj's suspicion that SZA supported her former manager, Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE) president Terrence "Punch" Henderson, amid one of Minaj's earlier outbursts. In a now-viral tweet, shared by Akademiks TV, Minaj alleged that she was Drake's original choice to appear alongside Sexyy Red on the track 'Rich Baby Daddy' from his For All the Dogs album. 'I wonder if she know I turned down being on the 'shake dat a** for Drake' song,' Minaj wrote. 'He wanted me & Sexy on it... I said I want to wait for PF2 for me & him to do a Dricki song so it felt more special.' Nicki Minaj reveals Drake originally wanted her and Sexyy Red to be on 'Rich Baby Daddy,' but she turned the offer down, wanting her and Drake to collaborate on her album. Nicki continues violating SZA. — Akademiks TV (@AkademiksTV) July 17, 2025 Minaj didn't hold back, further insulting SZA with an inflammatory statement. "Now that silly goose still out here shaking dat a** for Drake every day. After swallowing his b-lls. Allegedly. Oh Mza give it up," she added. Though she did not provide evidence for the claims, the comments quickly drew attention due to their graphic and personal nature. Drake and SZA previously dated briefly in 2009, as mentioned in the 21 Savage track 'Mr. Right Now,' according to Complex. SZA has not directly responded to the latest accusations but recently addressed Minaj's earlier insults, writing on X, 'I don't give a fck bout none of that weird sht you popping... Y'all have blessed night!' Minaj also directed criticism at other industry figures this week, including Jay-Z and Roc Nation CEO Desiree Perez. She even contacted the FBI after interpreting comments made by TDE affiliate MackWop as a potential threat during a livestream.

Nicki Minaj Claims Drake Asked Her To Be On 'Rich Baby Daddy' Before SZA

Nicki Minaj has responded to SZA's attempt to defend herself amid their online back-and-forth this week, with the Queens rapper claiming her Young Money comrade Drake asked her to be on his Sexyy Red-assisted single 'Rich Baby Daddy' before SZA. 'I wonder if she know I turned down being on the 'shake dat a** for drake' song,' Minaj, 42, posted on X Thursday (July 18). 'He wanted me & sexy on it. I still have the version of just drake & sexy. I said I want to wait for pf2 for me & him to do a dricki song so it felt more special. And now that silly goose still out here shaking dat a** for drake every day. After swallowing his balls. Allegedly. Oh Mza give it up.' SZA currently performs 'Rich Baby Daddy' on her Grand National tour, co-headlined by Kendrick Lamar. Drake also revealed on 'Mr. Right Now' that he and SZA previously dated, with her later clarifying that they briefly dated in 2009. Minaj went on to claim that she and Beyoncé playfully argued over who would sing a lyric SZA wrote on their 2014 collaboration 'Feeling Myself.' 'I remember me & Beyonce was going back & forth on the phone about that part of the song. Bey was like you sing it, I was like NOOOOO you sing it, she was like noooooo you sing it, I was like PLEASE!!!!! I can't sing!..none of us wanted to sing those sh*t lyrics. Bey voice was already on it. I re-sang it & sent it to her & she sent it back with her vocals under mine. Thank goodness.' Read the full post below. This was in response to SZA telling the rapper not to downplay her artistry, as Minaj was, 'rapping my lyrics on feeling myself 'Cooking up the bass looking like a kilo'?' SZA also claimed, in response to Minaj's initial hours-long rant, that Minaj asked her for two features to no response. The exchange follows Minaj and SZA going back-and-forth this week over what Nicki believed to be a subliminal shot aimed at her on X after she took TDE's Punch to task for alleged bullying. Netflix just added a new romantic comedy series — and it's one of my favorite binge-watches this year

Netflix just dropped the entire 10-episode miniseries "Too Much," and trust me when I say this romantic comedy should definitely be your next binge-watch. That's not to say the show is perfect. I was pretty concerned after the first 10 minutes that it was going to be a miss for the streaming service. But then Will Sharpe showed up, and when paired with the show's other lead, Megan Stalter, they have incredible chemistry. So, if you've been debating whether to watch this new romantic comedy from "Girls" creator Lena Dunham or are just hearing about it, let me assure you that it's worth streaming. Here's what you need to know about "Too Much" and why it needs to be your next binge-watch. "Too Much" stars Stalter (of "Hacks") as Jessica. She's recently had a messy breakup, and her ex is already engaged mere months later. So she decides to go to England ... OK, her work forces her to get out of New York and go to London, but the point is, she's ready for a fresh start. But not long after getting to London, she meets Felix (Sharpe), an indie musician getting by playing at a local pub. They hit it off and begin a whirlwind romance, but that causes them to blow by some red flags along the way. First things first: This show is billed as Jessica being the doe-eyed, broken-hearted girl and Felix as the walking red flag who maybe is more Mr. Right Now than Mr. Right. Don't get me wrong: Felix has his issues, but Jessica is easily just as bad. In fact, for the first two-thirds of the show, Felix comes off as being a largely attentive boyfriend, who, despite some attachment issues, is genuinely trying. I'm not going to spoil all the ways that Jessica is a mess, but wow, is she a mess. I think Stalter was frankly cast for the role because Jessica is a mess, very similar to Stalter's character on "Hacks." It felt a bit like typecasting, to be frank, and I was a bit disappointed at first. Thankfully, though, Stalter gets to shine the second Sharpe shows up as Felix. Their chemistry is palpable and it's instant. It's like a switch was flipped and Jessica (and by extension Stalter) gets to be their real self rather than an awkward, cringey disaster. Felix is a more static character. The character does experience notable growth as the show goes on, but in terms of how they present themselves and act, they sort of are who they are, whether with Jessica or apart. Ironically, "Too Much" tries to do exactly that — too much. There's a whole subplot about Jessica's sister (played by Dunham) and her messy relationship, and it almost feels like Dunham couldn't keep herself out of the show's spotlight. I'm perhaps being a bit harsh, but I felt it was a subplot that was largely unnecessary. The show is a rom-com about Jessica and Felix. Let it just be that. Ultimately, you find yourself waiting for the moments where the two leads can be together on-screen, which is thankfully quite often. But despite my complaints about the show, I found myself loving the entire 10-episode binge-watch nonetheless. Stream "Too Much" now on Netflix Malcolm has been with Tom's Guide since 2022, and has been covering the latest in streaming shows and movies since 2023. He's not one to shy away from a hot take, including that "John Wick" is one of the four greatest films ever made. Here's what he's been watching lately:

Drake and SZA's relationship timeline resurfaces after Super Bowl 2025 Halftime Show appearance

Drake and SZA's past relationship has resurfaced in the spotlight as SZA performed at the 2025 Super Bowl Halftime Show and prepares to tour with Kendrick Lamar, one of Drake's biggest rivals. Their connection, which dates back to the late 2000s, has remained a topic of interest over the years. 2008-2009: A Brief Romance Drake and SZA reportedly had a short-lived romance in 2008 or 2009. The relationship remained mostly private until Drake referenced it in his 2020 track 'Mr. Right Now', where he rapped, 'Yeah, said she wanna f–k to some SZA, wait / 'Cause I used to date SZA back in '08.' Shortly after, SZA clarified on social media that their relationship actually took place in 2009, not 2008, and described it as a completely innocent connection. She later referred to it as a 'childish' fling, emphasizing that there was nothing serious about their time together. October 2020: Public Revelation Drake's mention of their relationship in 'Mr. Right Now' on October 2, 2020, was the first time the public learned of their past romance. Two days later, SZA responded, explaining the corrected timeline and confirming that their relationship was never anything deep. Despite this lighthearted jab, she assured fans that there was no bad blood between them. 2023: Musical Collaborations Despite their past, Drake and SZA teamed up for the first time musically in 2023 on two tracks from Drake's album For All The Dogs : 'Slime You Out' and 'Rich Baby Daddy.' While their collaboration signaled a professional reunion, SZA later revealed in an interview that she was initially concerned about Drake using an unfinished version of her vocals on 'Slime You Out.' Despite this, she maintained that their working relationship remained positive. 2024: Caught in the Drake vs. Kendrick Lamar Feud In April 2024, SZA unexpectedly became part of the ongoing feud between Drake and Kendrick Lamar after a leaked demo of Drake's diss track 'Push Ups' referenced her, suggesting she was more deserving of a spot in rap's 'Big 3' than Lamar. SZA reacted to the controversy humorously on Instagram, appearing confused about how she became involved in the rap beef. Later that year, she collaborated with Kendrick Lamar on his album GNX , featuring on two tracks, 'Gloria' and 'Luther', marking her first collaboration with Lamar since the feud intensified. In December 2024, SZA further aligned with Lamar by joining his Grand National Tour, set to begin in April 2025. 2025: SZA Joins Kendrick Lamar at Super Bowl As Kendrick Lamar headlined the Apple Music Super Bowl Halftime Show, SZA was announced as one of the featured performers, continuing their ongoing collaboration. She has praised his positive remarks about her over the years and expressed appreciation for their professional relationship.

A timeline of SZA's 'childish' fling with Drake in the early 2000s before his feud with Kendrick Lamar

Nearly 16 years ago, SZA dated her friend Kendrick Lamar's now arch-rival, Drake. But, it was just a fling. While SZA has said she's on good terms with her ex, Drake, she's also close friends with Lamar. Next weekend, she'll be taking the stage at the Super Bowl with the 'Not Like Us' rapper, who's headlining the event. The two musicians are also going on tour together this year, following the 2024 release of Lamar's album, GNX. SZA is featured in two songs on the album, 'Gloria' and 'Luther.' The two friends have previously collaborated on multiple songs, including 'Babylon,' which was on SZA's 2014 EP, Z, and 'All The Stars' from the soundtrack of the 2018 film, Black Panther. Although SZA's spending a lot of time with Kendrick in 2025, she's had both a working and semi-romantic relationship with Drake, born Aubrey Drake Graham. Here's everything we know about SZA's 2009 fling with the Canadian rapper, years before his feud with Lamar. Drake publicly reveals he dated SZA in a 2020 song In Drake's 2020 song, 'Mr. Right Now' with Metro Boomin and 21 Savage, he revealed that he once had a relationship with SZA, whose real name is Solána Imani Rowe. 'Yeah, said she wanna f*** to some SZA, wait / 'Cause I used to date SZA back in '08,' he sang. SZA didn't hesitate to respond to this tune, as she later made some clarifications about when the brief romance happened. 'So It was actually 2009 lol,' she wrote on X/Twitter in October 2020. 'In this case a year of poetic rap license mattered. Lol I think he just innocently rhymed 08 w wait. Anybody who really knows me and was around during this time can confirm.. it's all love all peace.' According to the 'Kill Bill' singer, her 2009 relationship with Drake was never that serious. 'We were really young,' she told Rolling Stone in 2023 about her time dating the 'Family Matters' rapper. 'It wasn't hot and heavy or anything. It was like youth vibes. It was so childish.' During an interview with Audacy in December 2022, she said that she and Drake were on good terms, noting they've 'always been cool.' 'It's never been weird. It didn't come completely out of the blue when he let me know,' she said, referring to the romance being mentioned in 'Mr. Right Now.' 'I didn't know it was a song with 21 [Savage] or anything like that. But anytime he's ever mentioned me, it's always been positive. He's never said anything negative about me. I'm grateful for that. I think highly of him… He's King Drake.' The two musicians have worked together before, as they collaborated on the 2023 tune, 'Sline You Out,' from Drake's album, For All the Dogs. SZA was also featured in another song on that album, 'Rich Baby Daddy.' Drake and Kendrick Lamar's feud continues in 2024 Drake and Lamar's once friendly relationship has descended into years of traded barbs and thinly veiled disses, fueled by fans who clash over which one is the better artist, and finally boiling over into a full-blown feud. The two singers have frequently made public but subtle digs at each other, leaning into one public perception in 2014 that Drake was a glorified pop artist, rather than a credible hip-hop star. Last year, the tense drama between the singers reached new heights. Lamar turned to openly naming Drake in his track 'euphoria', seemingly a nod to Drake's role as a producer on the hit HBO teen drama, which he dropped randomly in April 2024. The six-minute track sees Lamar open fire on Drake's racial identity, his alleged use of ghostwriters, and recent remarks and behavior that have led to accusations of misogyny. Just a few days later and before Drake had properly responded, Lamar dropped another incendiary track, '6:16 in LA', on his Instagram. Drake responded by releasing a series of diss tracks, including 'Family Matters', made up of three parts, in which he accuses Lamar's pro-Black activism of hypocrisy. The slew of diss tracks from the two stars continued, with the 'Humble' rapper releasing 'Not Like Us' via YouTube in May 2024. The song has racked up over 10 million views within only a matter of hours. It features an aerial image of Drake's mansion with target symbols within. In November, Drake filed two separate legal actions against Universal Music Group and Spotify, as he accuses UMG, the owner of his label Republic Records, of artificially inflating streams of 'Not Like Us'. In allegations that UMG branded 'offensive and untrue', the filing said that UMG 'launched a campaign to manipulate and saturate the streaming services and airwaves with a song, 'Not Like Us', in order to make that song go viral, including by using 'bots' and pay-to-play agreements.' It said the company and streaming giant Spotify 'have a long-standing, symbiotic business relationship' and alleges that UMG offered special licensing rates to Spotify for the song. The petition also accused UMG of firing employees seen as loyal to Drake 'in an apparent effort to conceal its schemes'.
