Young models connect beyond the runway
Over 40 young models, both local and non-local, gathered at the Mall of Africa for an elegant picnic organised by four local modelling agencies.
This event, held on August 9 to commemorate National Women's Day, was spearheaded by Face of Rabie Ridge, Mr and Miss Rovers, Mr and Miss Exceptional RSA, and Zingami Modeling Academy.
Models from Midrand, Soweto, Rabie Ridge, and across Johannesburg answered the call to connect beyond the runway.

The picnic featured dynamic activities, including relay races and hot-and-cold games, specifically designed to promote camaraderie, teamwork, and spirited competition. These activities served as a vital platform for participants to share their experiences, the challenges they've conquered, and the milestones that motivate them to keep striving for success.
Sanele Khuzwayo, founder of Face of Rabie Ridge, asserted the event's effectiveness in forging connections among models from diverse backgrounds. 'This event was crucial for all participants. We aimed to instil the importance of honouring every woman in their lives – not just through respect, but through active celebration.
'Given the disturbing rate of gender-based violence impacting South African women, hosting this picnic on Women's Day was a huge tribute to izimbokondo [women].'
The founders of these agencies are committed to organising more events that highlight the importance of community and connection among models, reinforcing that their journey is about much more than just modelling.
'Building strong bonds is imperative,' said Khuzwayo, 'and initiatives like these will continue to pave the way for unity and empowerment within the modelling industry.'
