Delhi's Lajpat Nagar double murder accused arrested by UP Police from Chandauli
Varanasi: A 22-year-old domestic worker, accused of the cold-blooded murder of his employer and her 14-year-old son in South Delhi's Lajpat Nagar, was arrested on Thursday from a train at Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Junction in UP's Chandauli while trying to flee to his native village in Vaishali, Bihar.
The accused,
Mukesh Kumar
, was arrested in a joint operation by Mughalsarai Police, GRP and RPF, following a tip-off from
Delhi Police
.
Mukesh, who worked with the Sewani family for four years as a driver and helper in their Lajpat Nagar garment shop, was caught onboard the Patna-bound Magadh Express.
According to Chandauli SP Aditya Langeh, the platform was cordoned off ahead of the train's arrival and Mukesh was taken into custody.
Sources said he was reportedly planning to escape to Hajipur and then to Nepal.
A Delhi Police team flew to Varanasi and reached Chandauli to take him back for further investigation.
Circle officer Krishna Murari Sharma said Mukesh confessed during preliminary questioning, claiming he was regularly "humiliated" by Ruchika. "Even when I was unwell, she forced me to work and kept scolding me. I lost control and killed her," he claimed. According to police, Mukesh said he had asked for a Rs 40,000 loan, which was denied by the woman.

Mukesh claimed that since Ruchika's son witnessed him killing her, he killed the boy too, before escaping.
Police sources said that Mukesh used to earn Rs 15,000 a month from the deceased employer. He is the youngest amongst the three brothers. His father Naresh Paswan also works at a shop in Delhi and stays in Lajpat Nagar.
Delhi Police confirmed that certain items were recovered from Mukesh during arrest, but a formal interrogation will take place in the national capital.
The victims — identified as Ruchika Sewani (42) and her son Krish — were allegedly killed with a sharp-edged weapon on Wednesday night. Their bloodied bodies were found inside their locked home after Ruchika's husband, Kuldeep, alerted the police upon noticing blood stains on the staircase and not being able to reach them over the phone. When police broke open the door, Ruchika's body was found in the bedroom, while Krish's was discovered in the bathroom.
