Gerik Crash: Remains of two UPSI students buried in hometowns
JERTIH: The remains of Wan Nur Suhaila Wan Muhammad and Muhammad Adib Hazim Halim, who were killed in the crash on the East-West Highway (JRTB) near Tasik Banding, Gerik, Perak, early Monday morning, were laid to rest in their respective hometowns. A light drizzle accompanied the burial of Wan Nur Suhaila Wan Muhammad, 22, at the Kampung Amer Muslim Cemetery in Kampung Raja, Besut, at 11.37 pm tonight. Earlier, the van carrying her body from Gerik Hospital arrived in Kampung Amer at 10.50 pm. The funeral prayers were held at Masjid Al-Mukhlisin and attended by over 500 people, including close family members, villagers and friends. Meanwhile, the remains of Muhammad Adib Hazim, 21, were buried at the Kampung Pasir Badak Muslim Cemetery in Hulu Besut at 12.15 am. Funeral prayers were first held at Masjid Hadhari in Jertih, followed by a second prayer at the Kampung Pasir Badak surau at 11.20 pm. The burial of the Bachelor of Education (Malay Language) student was attended by about 200 people, comprising family and acquaintances. Muhammad Adib Hazim, the sixth of seven siblings, died while on the way to the hospital. Meanwhile, the remains of 13 other UPSI students killed in the crash are en route from the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB) in Ipoh, Perak, to the same mosque for funeral prayers before being laid to rest in their respective hometowns. The convoy of van hearses carrying the bodies left the HRPB Forensic Department at 8.55 pm and is expected to arrive at Masjid Hadhari in Jertih, Terengganu at 2 am. In the incident which occurred between 12.30 am and 1 am, 15 UPSI students were killed after the chartered bus they were travelling in from Jertih, Terengganu to Tanjung Malim, Perak overturned following a collision with an MPV on the JRTB near Tasik Banding. The accident also left 33 others injured, including the bus driver and his assistant, as well as the driver and three passengers of the Alza.

Painful loss: Family members waiting to claim the remains of the UPSI students at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital. — Bernama GERIK: Wan Nur Suhaila Wan Muhammad, one of the victims killed in the bus crash along the East-West Highway, had cooked a final meal for her family on the day she was scheduled to return to university. Wan Muhammad Sham said his 22-year-old sister had prepared mee celup for the entire family on Sunday before she was to head back to Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) in Tanjung Malim, Perak, after spending the Aidiladha holidays at home. 'It was a rare occasion where all nine siblings were home in Jerteh. She was her usual cheerful and friendly self, and there was no sign that anything was amiss,' said Wan Muhammad, 31, when met at the Gerik Hospital Forensic Unit yesterday. He said their mother informed the family of the accident around 3.30am and they rushed to the hospital. Wan Muhammad said at first they had no details about her condition, and that it was only upon arrival that they were told she had died. Another victim, Muhammad Adib Hazim Halim, was known for his creative mind. Muhammad Aiman Hazman, 32, said his younger brother presented their mother with a flower bouquet made out of money on Sunday for her birthday before heading back to UPSI. 'He was a very obedient sibling who always listened to our parents,' he told reporters at the Gerik Hospital mortuary. Muhammad Adib Hazim was the sixth out of seven children, and hailed from Besut, Terengganu. Before the family arrived at the hospital, they were unaware of Muhammad Adib Hazim's status. 'We did not know anything because there was no information. His name was not listed among those who had died, so we came here hoping there was still a chance. Kind sibling: Muhammad Aiman Hazman described his late younger brother Muhammad Adib Hazim as an obedient person. — Bernama 'Then we got a call, and they asked us to go to the forensics unit to identify the body,' he said. He said his brother would usually go back with the other siblings, but decided to take the bus instead that fateful night. 'The bus was supposed to depart at 10pm, but it ended up arriving by 9pm. That is why some social media posts went viral about people being left behind,' he said. He added that his brother was passionate about reciting the Quran and had memorised it in full.

Tears and prayers as over 200 attend funeral of UPSI student Muhammad Adib
BESUT: More than 200 people attended the funeral of Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) student Muhammad Adib Hazim Halim, 21. Muhammad Adib Hazim was among the first victims to be laid to rest at Kampung Pasir Badak Islamic cemetery in Hulu Besut at around 12.30am earlier today. A sombre atmosphere enveloped the cemetery grounds as family members, friends, and villagers paid their last respects. Earlier, Muhammad Adib's body was taken to Hadhari mosque, Jertih, for funeral prayers (solat jenazah) before being brought to the cemetery. Meanwhile, the bodies of 13 other students who died were transported by van from Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB) in Ipoh, Perak, to the same mosque for prayers before being buried in their respective hometowns.
