Plan for new Glasgow hall rejected after residents all said the same thing
A plan to turn a Glasgow home into a meeting hall has been rejected after residents shared one complaint. Glasgow City Council planning officials declined Muhammad Akram's proposal to transform the residential property at 71 Albert Road in Crosshill. The committee cited several policies which the bid goes against, including that the new venue would likely "raise unacceptable noise and activity issues, which would be detrimental to the neighbours within the locale". Another reason was that the hall "fails to provide car parking, public and staff cycle parking and end trip facilities for staff". The decision came after 15 objections were submitted against the proposal, quoting difficulties with parking. READ NEXT: This retailer has plan for historic Queen Street building One resident said: "A change of use will inevitably increase car traffic and parking, which is already unsustainable and impacts the safety of other road users, including cyclists and children." Another wrote: "I am concerned about the impact on traffic and parking caused by the proposed change in purpose. "This will bring additional users looking for parking spaces. The existing facility next door already causes problems (e.g. mothers double-parking when collecting children from classes). "A residential street cannot just 'absorb' this increased need for parking spaces." A third noted: "I must object to this application in the strongest possible terms, on the grounds of the increased traffic and almost guaranteed issues with illegal parking that this proposed development will bring to Albert Road." A fourth added: "The local infrastructure is not designed to support non-residential use at this location. Increased traffic, noise and demand on limited services would follow, negatively affecting residents and further diminishing the area's residential nature. "We have already seen the serious impact at the neighbouring property, which is in domestic use but frequently functions as a venue."

Bosowa Energy Group and BK LNG Solution Forge Strategic Partnership to Accelerate Indonesia's Energy Transition
JAKARTA, Indonesia, May 7, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Bosowa Energy Group has announced a strategic partnership with BK LNG Solution (BKLS), marking a significant milestone in its long-term vision to modernize Indonesia's energy infrastructure and accelerate the shift toward cleaner energy alternatives. The partnership was formalized through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in Jakarta, launching a comprehensive collaboration across the liquefied natural gas (LNG) and broader energy infrastructure sectors. Under the MOU, the two parties will cooperate closely in multiple areas, including LNG supply chain integration, development of floating storage units (FSUs), natural gas power generation, downstream energy applications, and small-scale LNG distribution via ISO tank containers. During the signing ceremony, representatives from both sides engaged in in-depth discussions on the strategic roadmap and future direction of cooperation. Muhammad Akram, Chief Operating Officer of Bosowa Energy Group, described the partnership as a transformative step in advancing the nation's energy transition agenda: "This collaboration not only enables us to diversify our energy portfolio with scalable LNG solutions, but also directly supports our mission to reduce emissions, enhance energy reliability in underserved regions, and contribute meaningfully to Indonesia's broader decarbonization goals." Junizwan, CEO of Bosowa Energasindo, emphasized the strategic value of the collaboration: "This collaboration with BK LNG Solution represents a key milestone for Bosowa Energasindo as we strengthen our commitment to Indonesia's energy transformation. By combining our domestic operational capabilities with BKLS's international LNG expertise, we are building a foundation for a more agile, efficient, and sustainable energy future." Henry Kim, President of BKLS, highlighted the company's commitment to supporting Indonesia's clean energy transition: "As a specialist in flexible LNG solutions with extensive experience across the region, we are confident in our ability to deliver reliable and efficient natural gas solutions tailored to Indonesia's unique needs, which we believe are essential for a resilient energy transition. This partnership not only initiates resource synergy but also demonstrates our shared commitment to Indonesia's clean energy goals." A key component of the partnership involves converting existing diesel-fired power plants (PLTD) on remote islands into cleaner, gas-fired power plants (PLTG) using LNG. This initiative is expected to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions while improving energy stability in underserved regions. The partnership will also focus on the deployment of modular LNG regasification units and the development of localized micro-grid systems. These technologies are expected to play a critical role in enabling isolated areas across Indonesia to transition from diesel to natural gas—aligning with the nation's vision for equitable and sustainable energy access. Initial pilot projects are scheduled to launch in Eastern Indonesia later this year, with plans to expand operations nationwide in the coming years. This partnership not only aligns with Indonesia's national energy transition roadmap but also establishes a solid foundation for BKLS to deepen its regional presence and expand its global footprint. By joining forces, Bosowa and BKLS aim to accelerate project execution and contribute to sustainable energy development across Indonesia and the wider Southeast Asian region.

Bomb blast kills three police officers in southwest Pakistan: Officials
An explosion targeting a police bus in Pakistan's southwestern Balochistan province killed at least three officers and wounded 16 others on Tuesday, authorities said. The bus was carrying around 40 police officers when it was hit by the blast in Mastung district, around 40km south of the provincial capital Quetta, local administration official Raja Muhammad Akram told AFP. "It was a roadside IED (improvised explosive device) blast that resulted in the deaths of three policemen while wounding 16 others," Akram said. Pakistan has been battling a separatist insurgency in Balochistan for decades, where militants target state forces, foreign nationals, and non-locals in the mineral-rich southwestern province bordering Afghanistan and Iran. Shahid Rind, a spokesperson for the provincial government, confirmed the death toll while adding that two of the officers were in critical condition. No group has claimed the attack. However, the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) is the most active group in the region and often carries out deadly attacks against security forces. Last month, ethnic Baloch separatists attacked a train with 450 passengers on board, sparking a two-day siege during which dozens of people were killed. More than 200 people, mostly security officials, have been killed in attacks since the start of the year by armed groups fighting the government in both Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, according to an AFP tally. Last year was the deadliest year in a decade in Pakistan, following a trend of rising militancy since the Taliban took power in Afghanistan in 2021.

Three Balochistan Constabulary officers killed in blast in southwest Pakistan
QUETTA: Three officials of the Balochistan Constabulary police force in Pakistan's southwest were killed on Tuesday in an IED blast that targeted their vehicle, according to a statement from the local government. The bus was carrying around 40 police officers when it was hit by the blast in Balochistan's Mastung district, around 40 kilometers (25 miles) south of the provincial capital Quetta, local administration official Raja Muhammad Akram told media. Shahid Rind, a spokesman for the provincial government, said the vehicle was returning from Kalat when it was targeted with an improvised explosive device (IED). 'Three personnel of the Balochistan Constabulary were martyred in the blast,' he added. Pakistan has been battling a separatist insurgency in Balochistan for decades, where militants target state forces, foreign nationals, and non-locals in the mineral-rich southwestern province bordering Afghanistan and Iran. The separatists seek independence from the Pakistani state. Although Pakistani authorities say they have quelled the insurgency, violence in Balochistan has persisted. No group has claimed Tuesday morning's attack. However, the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) is the most active group in the region and often carries out deadly attacks against security forces.
