Special team formed in Perlis to monitor entertainment activities

KANGAR: A special monitoring team has been established in Perlis to scrutinise entertainment activities held in the state, both prior to and during the events. State Religious Affairs, Education, Human Capital and Human Resources Committee chairman Muhammad Azmir Azizan said that all entertainment-related events in Perlis are subject to the Perlis State Entertainment Enactment 1987. He said organisers must first obtain approval from the Kangar Municipal Council (MPK) before hosting any entertainment activities. "On July 10, the Perlis Mufti Department held an engagement session with several stakeholders to coordinate entertainment regulations in the state. "Among the outcomes was the formation of an entertainment monitoring team that will review and oversee events, including rehearsals and final performances, to ensure full compliance with the approved guidelines," he said. He was responding to a question by Fakhrul Anwar Ismail (Perikatan Nasional - Bintong) during the Second Meeting of the Third Session of the 15th Perlis State Legislative Assembly at the Kompleks Seri Putera here today. Fakhrul had asked whether the state government intended to update and enforce existing entertainment guidelines, citing frequent violations by event organisers. He said Islam does not forbid entertainment, but any such activity must adhere to Islamic principles and uphold moral values. Azmir added that organisers are also required to submit a song list in advance, ensuring it reflects appropriate themes such as nature, philosophy, unity, or programme-specific messages. "For applications to be considered, they must be submitted to MPK at least 30 working days before the scheduled event. "Applicants must also include a detailed list of performances, the names and photographs of all performers, and the songs to be presented," he said. He said all applications would be presented to the state government for review and approval. "The enforcement will be in accordance with the 1987 Enactment and the approval terms issued by MPK.
