Actor Naim Daniel claims trial to sexually assaulting teenage girl

PETALING JAYA : Actor-singer Naim Daniel has pleaded not guilty to a charge of sexually assaulting a teenage girl at a hotel in Petaling Jaya last month.
Naim, whose full name is Muhammad Na'im Daniel Baharin, 28, entered the plea before judge M Kunasundary at the Putrajaya sessions court today, Sinar Harian reported.
He was accused of committing physical sexual assault against a 17-year-old girl at 8.56pm on May 19.
The charge, under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, carries a jail term of up to 20 years and a whipping, upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutor Nurul Izzah Shaharuddin proposed bail of RM15,000 with one surety and additional conditions, such as the surrender of Naim's passport to the court and that he refrain from contacting the victim or any of the prosecution witnesses.
The court allowed bail of RM12,000 with one surety and imposed all requested conditions.
Judge Kunasundary fixed Aug 18 for mention.
Naim was represented by lawyers Mohd Irwan Sumadi and Amirul Ridzuan Hanif.
