[UPDATED] Bangladeshi worker killed, 5 injured in glove factory rack collapse in Selangor
KUALA LUMPUR: A Bangladeshi worker was killed and five others were injured after a 17-tier storage rack collapsed at a glove factory in Olak Lempit, Kuala Langat, this morning.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department Assistant Director of Operations Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said they received a distress call at 10.54am about the incident at Glov Master Factory, and a team from the KLIA Fire and Rescue Station arrived at 11.05am.
Upon arriving, they noticed five workers had been pulled out safely, but one was stuck underneath the pile.
All were reported injured.
One victim, who was trapped beneath the collapsed storage structure, however, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
"Search and rescue operations were immediately carried out. At 11.20am, the final victim was located beneath the rubble but was pronounced dead at the scene by Health Ministry personnel," said operation commander Muhammad Nur Khairi Samsumin.
The deceased has been identified only as Rahman, a 33-year-old Bangladeshi national.
The operation involved nine firemen, supported by one fire engine truck and an Emergency Medical Rescue Service (EMRS) vehicle.
Investigations into the cause of the structural collapse are still underway.
