KOTA BARU: The Sultan of Kelantan, Sultan Muhammad V, has graciously donated five cows for the 'korban' Jama'ie (sacrificial ritual) programme organised by the Kelantan Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIK) in conjunction with Aidiladha. The annual programme to support the asnaf (eligible recipients) community through the distribution of sacrificial meat was held at the field of Kompleks Islam Jubli Perak Sultan Ismail Petra field in Panji, here, today. MAIK president Tengku Tan Sri Mohamad Rizam Tengku Abdul Aziz, who is also the Tengku Temenggong of Kelantan, said the five cows were part of a total of 49 that were slaughtered and distributed to 2,000 asnaf in the Kota Baru district. "The sacrificial meat is distributed to the poor and needy through state-administered mosques. "Each recipient will receive two kg of meat and bones. "Every year, the korban ceremony organised by MAIK is a lively and well-attended affair, supported by cattle donations from members of the royal family, government agencies and the public," he added. Kelantan Ruler express concerns about border security

KOTA BARU: The Sultan of Kelantan, Sultan Muhammad V, has expressed deep concerns over security issues along the Malaysia-Thailand border. The Ruler said there is an urgent need to finalise the proposal for building a wall and creating a buffer zone in the Sungai Golok area. He also highlighted the recurring flood problem in the state, saying the integrated river basin projects for Sungai Kelantan and Sungai Golok must be expedited in all its phases. 'Priority must be given to the construction of the Lebir Dam, as it is crucial in addressing the challenges posed by floods in Kelantan,' he said in his royal address when opening the Third Term of the 15th Kelantan Legislative Assembly here yesterday, Bernama reported. Sultan Muhammad V also urged government agencies, departments and companies involved in the agricultural sector to remain focused on their core responsibilities of ensuring food security. 'I strongly encourage the government and public to explore and cultivate high-potential crops, such as coconuts and durians, as valuable sources of income within the agricultural sector,' the Ruler added. In line with the Kelantan Agricultural Development Enactment (2022), he called for the immediate development of an agricultural produce collection centre in Lojing to avoid losing out on revenue, investment and economic growth. Sultan Muhammad V also urged local authorities to focus on ensuring that towns in Kelantan remained clean, beautiful and vibrant, besides being effectively managed. 'I hope that all local authorities, with the full support of the government, will address the issue of abandoned buildings and capitalise on the economic opportunities within the city to further boost development,' he added. The Ruler also emphasised the need to accelerate infrastructure development while offering competitive tax exemption incentives to attract more investments to Kelantan. 'For instance, the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project is poised to bring new strategic value to the state, particularly through the establishment of a cargo-oriented development zone in Pasir Puteh and a transit-oriented development hub in the emerging township of Tunjong,' he said. The Ruler also urged the state government to explore and introduce alternative education platforms – mainly in the field of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) – to better align with current industry demands.

Speed up Thai border wall project, says Kelantan sultan

KOTA BARU: Sultan of Kelantan Sultan Muhammad V today urged swift approval of a proposed wall and buffer zone along the Malaysian-Thai border in Sungai Golok. "I take the security issue along the Malaysian-Thai border seriously and hope the wall and buffer zone project can be implemented soon." He said this at the opening ceremony of the state legislative assembly. Sultan Muhammad V expressed appreciation for the strong federal-state relationship. He highlighted collaboration in infrastructure, land use, agriculture, and biodiversity conservation in Kelantan. "I urge that the Kelantan and Golok Rivers Integrated River Basin Projects be expedited to address flood issues in the state. "Priority should be given to the construction of the Lebir Dam, which is needed to resolve flood problems in Kelantan," he said. The ruler said Kelantan still lags in attracting foreign investment compared with west coast states that have ports and better trade facilities. "Infrastructure development must be accelerated, along with competitive tax incentives to draw more investors." Sultan Muhammad V said he had been informed that the state government had submitted a list of applications for the First Rolling Plan under the 13th Malaysia Plan. "I hope the planned focus will lead to more inclusive and sustainable development. "This can drive economic growth and boost the state's competitiveness. "Key focus areas should include manufacturing to attract investment, better water and road infrastructure, and stronger emphasis on agriculture and tourism." The ruler expressed hope that an agricultural produce collection centre in Lojing could be developed immediately to transform the sub-district into an agricultural hub. "I urge departments, agencies and government-linked companies involved in the agriculture sector to remain focused on their functions and to intensify efforts to ensure food security for the state and the nation," He urged the state to prioritise new townships in every district as industrial growth catalysts. "These new townships should adopt the smart city concept. "In the era of artificial intelligence (AI), technical and digital skills are becoming increasingly important. "With the right skills, young people can be more competitive and contribute to human capital development. "Therefore, I urge the state government to explore and provide alternative education platforms, particularly in technical and vocational education and training (TVET), to meet the needs of industries."
