SIBU: A man died after the car he was driving skidded off the road at KM7, Jalan Oya-Dalat in Mukah early today. The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) confirmed the victim as Chung Marn Cherk, a resident of Jalan Rubber Barat in Kuching. According to a JBPM spokesperson, emergency services received a distress call at 3.37 am, prompting a response team from the Mukah fire station to rush to the scene, located 33 km away. 'We found a Toyota Rush vehicle had skidded off the road, and the victim had been ejected from his vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene,' the spokesperson said. Police had already transported the victim's body to Mukah Hospital before firefighters arrived. The cause of the accident remains under investigation. Authorities urge motorists to exercise caution, especially during early morning travel when visibility may be reduced. - Bernama

MUKAH (July 26): A five-year-old boy was killed while his 17-year-old cousin sustained injuries in a hit and run accident involving a motorcycle and an unidentified vehicle at KM21, Jalan Mukah-Balingian last night. Mukah district police chief DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias said the incident occurred around 7pm as the teenager, who was riding the motorcycle from the direction of Balingian, attempted to turn into the junction leading to Kampung Penipah. 'The impact caused serious head injuries to the pillion rider, a five-year-old boy who was the rider's cousin. 'He was rushed to Mukah Hospital but was pronounced dead while receiving treatment,' he said in a statement today. The teenage rider sustained facial and leg injuries and is reported to be in stable condition. Police are still tracking down the vehicle and the driver involved, who fled the scene after the collision and has yet to come forward to file a report. 'We urge anyone who witnessed the incident to contact Investigating Officer Inspector Mohd Rahmat Jalimin at 011-31627137 or report to the nearest police station to assist in the investigation,' Muhamad Rizal added.
