Fadnavis Sets Deadline for 5,000 MW Solar Push Under Flagship Agri Feeder Plan
Nagpur: Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis issued a clear directive to the state machinery: complete 5,000 MW of solar power projects under the ambitious 'Mukhyamantri Saur Krushi Vahini Yojana 2.0' by September 2025 . Calling it his 'dream initiative', the CM told officials to treat the issue with urgency and efficiency."No procedural laxity will be tolerated. Districts must adopt a timeline-bound approach and ensure coordinated execution at every level," Fadnavis, also energy minister, said during a high-level review in Mumbai. The meeting, held to address land availability and ancillary concerns for the solar feeder rollout, was attended by revenue minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, renewable energy minister Atul Save, minister of state for energy Meghana Bordikar, chief secretary Rajesh Kumar, and top officials from energy, finance, and forest departments. Fadnavis underscored the need for seamless cooperation between local authorities and private players executing projects on both govt and private land. He urged district collectors to expedite no-objection certificates, land leasing, removal of encroachments, and remeasurement for timely approvals. "Obstacles faced by developers should be resolved on priority," he said. Responding to recurring issues, Fadnavis instructed police to act swiftly in cases of theft from solar project sites. He also directed that care be taken in densely populated areas, and that permissions for power lines crossing forest zones be granted without delay. "Guidelines related to trees must be strictly followed. Forest department must issue clearances on time, including for adjacent private lands," he added. Fadnavis' push comes amid growing emphasis on decentralised renewable energy infrastructure for rural power stability. District task forces have been told to closely monitor project progress. Among those attending were additional chief secretaries OP Gupta (finance) and Milind Mhaiskar (forest), secretary Shrikar Pardeshi, and heads of MahaTransco, MahaGenco, and the state's energy development agency. All district collectors and zilla parishad CEOs joined via video conferencing.

Maha CM directs completion of 5,000 MW projects under Mukhyamantri Saur Krushi Vahini Yojana 2.0 by September
Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, on Wednesday, directed the administration to complete the development of solar power projects with a capacity of 5,000 MW under the ambitious Mukhyamantri Saur Krushi Vahini Yojana 2.0 by September this year. He also said that there should not be a delay in achieving this target and instructed all the implementing agencies in the state to carry out the work of this scheme at a speedy and time-bound manner. He was speaking at the meeting organised here to review the land availability and other related issues during the implementation of the Mukhyamantri Saur Krishi Vahini Yojana 2.0. The state government under the Mukhymantri Saur Krushi Vahini Yojana 2.0 (MSKVY 2.0) has set an objective of 30 per cent feeder solarisation by 2025 as a 'Mission 2025' by implementing 7,000 MW decentralised solar projects on fast-track mode, wherein decentralised solar projects within the 5 to 10 km radius from agriculture load dominated distribution sub-station will be installed with the capacity from 0.5 to 25 MW for giving daytime power to farmers. Chief Minister Fadnavis said, "The Mukhyamantri Saur Krushi Vahini Yojana 2.0 scheme is my most ambitious scheme. Local agencies should work in coordination for solar projects being developed by private sector and the government undertakings. The district-level task force should review the current status of the work being done under this scheme from time to time. No-objection certificates should be obtained for the work to be done, and the problems faced by the developers should be resolved on priority." He also added that the district-wise work should be accelerated in such a way that up to 5,000 MW of electricity will be available through the Mukhyamantri Saur Krushi Vahini Yojana 2.0 scheme by September 2025. Chief Minister Fadnavis said that the District Collector should give priority to the work of granting leases of alternative lands, removing crop encroachments, removing encroachments of permanent structures, re-laying roads and timely measurement and demarcation of land as required, as well as issuing no-objection certificates to the gram panchayats. He directed the police to take immediate legal action in case of theft of solar project materials. He instructed the district administration and the implementing agencies to take proper care while working on the scheme in densely populated areas. Guidelines should be followed while cutting trees, if the power line passes through the forest area permission should be given by the Forest Department as soon as possible. He also said that the Forest Department should take action to issue no-objection permits for private and adjacent forest areas within the prescribed time.

Maharashtra To Slash Electricity Tariffs By 26% Over Next 5 Years In Historic Relief For Power Consumers
Last Updated: Domestic consumers using smart meters will receive an additional 10 per cent discount under the Time-of-Day (ToD) tariff structure for daytime electricity usage The Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) has approved a historic proposal to reduce power tariffs for the next five years in a major relief to electricity consumers across the state. For the first time in the state's history, the power utility—MahaVitaran—approached the commission with a plan to reduce electricity rates, and the decision is now set to benefit households, industries, and businesses alike. According to the MERC order, domestic consumers using smart meters will receive an additional 10 per cent discount under the Time-of-Day (ToD) tariff structure for daytime electricity usage. Households generating solar power will also be incentivised under this new framework. The new rate structure ensures that the maximum benefit reaches lower consumption categories—nearly 70 per cent of the state's domestic users consume less than 100 units, and they will see the highest drop in rates. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis welcomed the commission's decision, calling it 'historic and consumer-friendly". He highlighted that for decades, electricity rate petitions often proposed hikes of 10 per cent or more. 'This time, MahaVitaran has reversed the trend and proposed a tariff reduction—which has been approved. It's a moment of pride to announce this decision that will positively impact nearly every electricity user in the state," said Fadnavis. The reduction, phased over five years, will amount to a cumulative 26 per cent drop in power tariffs, starting with a 10 per cent cut in the first year. The state's industrial and commercial consumers—who were previously subject to annual hikes—will also benefit from the lower tariffs, which aim to stimulate growth and competitiveness. The relief to farmers is also significant. Under the 'Mukhyamantri Baliraja Free Electricity Scheme', over 45 lakh farmers using pumps of up to 7.5 HP are already receiving free electricity. The flagship 'Mukhyamantri Saur Krushi Vahini Yojana 2.0'—focused on decentralised solar power generation—is progressing rapidly. It aims to generate 16,000 MW of solar power for daytime farm use by December 2026, ensuring reliable, cost-effective power to the agricultural sector. In terms of long-term planning, MahaVitaran has signed power purchase agreements totalling 45,000 MW, taking into account projected energy demand up to 2030. Notably, 31,000 MW of this capacity will come from renewable energy sources. The availability of low-cost green power is expected to save around Rs 66,000 crore in power procurement over the next five years, further justifying the tariff reductions. Fadnavis expressed gratitude to the MERC, noting that this decision is aligned with the state's vision of becoming a $1 trillion economy under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership. 'Affordable and quality power supply will be the foundation of our growth. This decision is not just a financial relief but a structural reform," he added. With energy costs declining and solar power initiatives scaling up, Maharashtra's power sector seems poised for a transformative shift—ensuring both affordability and sustainability for its citizens.
