Nine-medal haul for Omani athletes at Gulf Beach Games
Muscat – Omani athletes are continuing to make a strong impact at the ongoing third Gulf Beach Games in Muscat, securing nine medals across multiple disciplines ahead of the competition's conclusion on April 11. Sprinter Mulham al Balushi won gold in the men's 60m with a time of 6.89 seconds, while teammate Rashid bin Huwishal al Asmi followed closely to take silver, clocking 7.03 seconds. In field events, Fatik Abdul Ghafoor claimed gold in the men's high jump with a 1.99m leap, and Salim al Yarubi topped the men's long jump with a jump of 7.2m. His compatriot, Salim al Rawahi, took silver with a mark of 6.98m. Oman's Mazoon al Alawi, a seasoned Olympic sprinter, secured silver in the women's 60m with a time of 7.9 seconds. The event was dominated by Bahraini athletes, who claimed gold and bronze. In equestrian events, Oman's tent pegging team earned silver in the Team Lance event, finishing behind Saudi Arabia. The UAE secured bronze. In the Singles Lance competition, Hamad al Riyami of Oman took bronze, while Qatar's Ali Hamad won gold. Oman also performed strongly in long-distance swimming. The national 10km team secured gold, with Saudi Arabia and Bahrain taking silver and bronze respectively. In the 10km individual event, Ayman al Qasimi earned silver and Nidal al Harrasi claimed bronze, rounding off a successful campaign for Oman's swimmers.

Oman athletes sizzle with six medals
MUSCAT, APRIL 8 Oman's young sprinter Mulham al Balushi bagged gold medal in Men's 60 m event after he cleared the distance within 6.89 seconds while his teammate Rashid bin Huwishal al Asmi clinched a silver medal after he recorded 7.03 seconds. Saudi Arabia's athlete Mohammed Abdullah finished in third place and grabbed bronze medal as he finished the race within 7.05 seconds. Oman's Fatik AbdulGhafoor won a gold medal at men's high jump event as he cleared 1.99 metres while Qatar's Hamdi Ali received silver medal after registering 1.96 metres. Kuwait's Khaled al Mesaad finished third and won bronze medal following his 1.93 metres effort. Oman's Salim al Yarubi claimed gold in men's long jump after he cleared 7.2 metres while his teammate Salim al Rawahi ended in second place and earned silver with 6.98-metre jump. Kuwait's Mohammad Ashkanani grabbed bronze with a jump of 6.95 metres. Oman's Olympic runner Mazoon al Alawi claimed silver in the women's 60 metres by clocking 7.9 seconds while Bahraini runners dominated with the gold and bronze medals. Layla Kamal came first in 7.77 seconds while Zeinab Mahamat finished third in 7.93 seconds. The Oman team captured silver medal in the tent pegging (Team Lance) event while Saudi Arabia team grabbed the gold. The United Arab Emirates team finished in third place. At the Singles Lance event, Oman's Hamad al Riyami received bronze medal while Ali Hamad from Qatar got the gold medal and Hussain Asiri from Saudi Arabia claimed silver medal. OMAN THRASH BAHRAIN Oman's national beach soccer team kicked off their campaign in the third edition of the Gulf Beach Games 'Muscat 2025' with a convincing 5-1 victory over Bahrain. The match was held at the sandy pitch of Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher. The game started energetically from the Omani side, with Yahya al Mariki opening the scoring in the sixth minute. Musallam al Oraimi doubled the lead with a stunning backheel goal in the 10th minute, ending the first period with Oman ahead 2-0. In the second period, the Omani dominance continued. Goalkeeper Younis al Owaisi scored the third goal with a powerful shot early in the period. Then, Abdullah al Sawti added a fourth with a superb header following a beautiful assist from Salim al Oraimi. The second period ended with Oman firmly in control at 4-0. Bahrain tried to fight back in the third period. They missed several opportunities, including a penalty kick taken by Mohamed Darwish, which Omani goalkeeper Amjad al Hamdani brilliantly saved. Bahrain eventually managed to pull one back through a penalty scored by Mohammed. However, in the final minutes, Sami al Balushi sealed the win for Oman with a well-placed header, making it 5-1. In the other match of the same round, the UAE defeated Saudi Arabia 4-1. Ali Mohamed opened the scoring for the UAE in the 14th minute, with the first period ending 1-0. In the second period, Waleed Bashar scored the second goal with a surprise strike, and goalkeeper Humaid Jamal added the third just before the end of the period, giving the UAE a 3-0 lead. In the third period, the UAE's fourth goal came from an own goal by Ahmed al Hammami. Yahya al Tamimi scored a late consolation goal for Saudi Arabia, ending the match 4-1 in favour of the UAE. At the end of Day 1, Oman lead the standings with 3 points, ahead of the UAE on goal difference, as both teams share the same points tally. The beach soccer competition features five teams and is played in a round-robin format. OMAN TEAMS WIN Oman beach volleyball team (1) registered their second straight triumph as they stunned Kuwait team (1) by 2-0 at Al Hail North Beach in the group matches of beach volleyball event. Oman team (1) represented by Haitham al Shuraiqi and Nooh al Jalboubi managed to deliver a solid performance to snatch their second consecutive win following their opening victory over UAE (1) by 2-0 on the opening day on Monday. In another match, Oman team (2) registered their second victory also as they blanked Saudi Arabia team (2) by 2-0 on Tuesday. Oman team (2) won against Bahrain team (1) in the first game by 2-0 and Oman team duo were Mazin al Hashmi and Hood al Jalboubi. On Monday, Oman teams impressed on the opening day of the beach volleyball competition as Oman team (3) represented by Mansoor al Qasmi and Saleh al Jalboubi won their match against Kuwait team (2) by 2-0. Oman team (4)'s duo Al Azhar al Hasani and Mubarak al Farsi delivered an outstanding show to claim a 2-0 win over Qatar team (2). Oman team (1) represented by Haitham al Shuraiqi and Nooh al Jalboubi defeated UAE (1) by 2-0. Oman team (3) comprising Mansoor al Qasmi and Saleh al Jalbobi lost against Qatar team (1) by 2-0. Oman team (2) comprising Mazin al Hashmi and Hood al Jalboubi won against Bahrain team (1) by 2-0. Oman team (4) represented by Al Azhar al Hasani and Mubarak al Farsi suffered a 2-0 loss against Saudi Arabia team (1). The marathon swimming will start on Wednesday at Qurum Beach as part of the third GCC Beach Games 'Muscat 2025' with the concluding day and medal ceremony on Friday. Oman's swimmers are in good shape including : Ayman al Qasmi, Nidhal al Harrasi, Nasser al Kindi, Nayef al Qasmi and Muhannad Awlad Thani. On the opening day of the competition, the swimmers will swim for 10 km distance while on the concluding the day the distance will be for 5 km.
