Man, Woman Trespass Into Salman Khan's House, Taken Into Custody
Last Updated: In April 2024, gunshots were also fired outside Salman Khan's Galaxy Apartments in Mumbai's Bandra area. In a shocking incident, two people entered Salman Khan's Galaxy Apartment in Mumbai on May 19th and 20th, respectively. CNN-News18 has learnt that a man entered the Bollywood superstar's house at around 7:15 pm on May 20th. However, he was soon caught. He has been identified as Jitendra Kumar Singh and is said to be a resident of Chhattisgarh. He is currently in police custody. Prior to this, a woman also tried to enter Salman Khan's residence in the wee hours of the same day. She has been identified as Isha Chhabra and is reportedly 32 years old. It is being said that the woman was near the lift area of Salman Khan's building when the security guards caught her. She was then handed over to the Bandra police. A case has been filed, and further investigation is underway. While more details are awaited, this has surely raised concerns about Salman Khan's security, who has also been getting death threats for a long time now. In April 2024, gunshots were also fired outside Khan's Galaxy Apartments in Mumbai's Bandra area. Later, it was reported that the Lawrence Bishnoi gang is alleged to be behind the attack as the gangster's brother, Anmol Bishnoi, claimed responsibility for the shooting incident via a Facebook post. After the shocking incident, Salman's security was upgraded. Later in July, Salman Khan also recorded his statement in connection to the house firing case when he claimed that the Lawrence Bishnoi gang was trying to kill him. 'I heard a cracker-like sound. Then, at around 4.55 am, the police bodyguard said that two people on a bike had fired from a weapon at the Galaxy Apartment's first-floor balcony. There had been attempts to hurt me and my family prior to this as well. I have learnt that Lawrence Bishnoi has taken responsibility for the attack from social media. So, I believe that it is the Lawrence Bishnoi gang who have carried out the firing on my balcony," Salman Khan told the anti-extortion cell of the Mumbai Crime Branch. In March this year, Salman was promoting his movie Sikander when he talked about death threats and answered if he is scared of the multiple death threats he has received. 'Bhagwan, Allah sab unpar hai. Jitni umar likhi hai, utni likhi hai. Bas yahi hai. Kabhi kabhi itne logon ko saath mein leke chalna padta hai, bas wohi problem ho jaati hai," the actor said. Solving Crime: How an informer's tip-off about ‘special salt' helped Mumbai police bust party drugs racket, seize contraband worth Rs 24 crore
The Mumbai police are known for cracking serious crimes, high-profile cases, and keeping a check on organised crime syndicates using their extensive network of khabaris (informers). With the help of reliable information shared by such informers, the city police have carried out several successful operations. In one such instance around 13 years ago, the Mumbai Crime Branch busted a party drugs racket, leading to the seizure of contraband worth nearly Rs 24 crore, while working on a reliable khabari's tip-off about a 'special salt' being sold in the market. From Civil Engineering to a pharma company The Crime Branch's investigation into this narcotics case is linked to Vipul Saxena, a resident of Bihar's Samastipur district. A diploma holder in Civil Engineering, Saxena came to Mumbai in 2007 with a dream of making it big. He tried his luck in the real estate sector and worked hard, but didn't get much success. This prompted him to switch to the pharmaceutical sector, and he joined a pharma company. While working at the pharma company, Saxena read about medicines and drugs on the Internet. During this time, he also discovered that there is a high demand for amphetamine, a psychotropic substance and also a party drug. According to the police, Saxena also came in contact with some pharmaceutical companies in Bengaluru during his stint at the company. He selected one of the medicine-producing companies, which was on the verge of shutting down. Saxena convinced a few people working at the company, and allegedly got a large amount of amphetamine cooked at the Bengaluru company's factory at a cheaper cost. He then started making a list of dealers who would buy amphetamine from him. Soon, he allegedly dispatched samples of the synthetic party drug to the dealers, but none of them showed any interest, citing its extremely poor quality. And, the packets of amphetamine remained at Saxena's office in Goregaon. Salt vs salt A youngster who worked at a tailoring shop next to Saxena's office would often frequent his office. During one of his visits to the office, he observed that Saxena covered the white crystal powder packets with some clothes as if he were hiding them. This prompted the young man to realise that the packets contained some sort of 'special salt', and that it was expensive. He then decided to steal a packet, and sell it. While Saxena was out one day, the young man stole one packet from his office, and put a similar-looking packet of common salt, which he had bought from a grocery store. He cut open the stolen packet but couldn't figure out what it was. He realised it was a sort of drug, but had no idea that the packet he was holding in his hand was worth lakhs of rupees. The young man then, in desperation to sell it, started looking for customers in the market, spreading the word that he had a big stock of a 'special salt'. While he was looking to sell the drugs, a police informer got to know about it, and tipped off a Crime Branch officer about the 'special salt'. The police then nabbed the youngster, and when they asked him about the antecedents of the packet, he led them to Saxena's Goregaon office. From there, the police seized amphetamine worth nearly Rs 24 crore. Saxena was subsequently arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, he secured bail in the case after months. Crime Branch sources said the contraband seized from Saxena's office also had the 'real' salt packet that the young man had kept there as a cover for his theft.

Family of slain NCP leader to launch hunger strike over unarrested conspirators
MUMBAI: The family of murdered Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Sachin Kurmi has announced an indefinite hunger strike from May 1 at the very spot in Byculla where he was killed on October 4, 2024. They claim they were left with no choice as three key conspirators, allegedly with political links, remain at large despite ample evidence. Sachin Kurmi, 46, who was the Byculla Taluka president of the NCP, was brutally stabbed at least 20 times while on a post-dinner walk on October 4 last year. Though he was rushed to JJ Hospital, he succumbed to his injuries. His family had earlier warned of threats to his life and had filed a written complaint at Kala Chowki police station three months prior to the attack, fearing danger. After initial investigations by the local police, the case was transferred to the Mumbai Crime Branch following pressure from NCP leaders Ajit Pawar and Chhagan Bhujbal. The crime branch invoked the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) and arrested six accused: Anand Kale alias Anya, Vijay Kakade alias Papya, Praful Patkar, Govind Yadav, Shekhar Madhokar, and Dilip Wagaskar. However, according to Sachin's brother Mahesh Kurmi, the main conspirators — individuals who had earlier threatened and even kidnapped Sachin over a financial dispute — remain untouched due to their political connections. 'The Mumbai Crime Branch had initially assured us of arrests, but later filed a charge-sheet without acting against the real masterminds. When we approached DCP Datta Nalawade, he told us that he was under tremendous pressure from his seniors not to proceed,' Mahesh alleged. The Kurmi family, along with social worker Mahesh Vengurlekar, has begun putting up banners across Byculla and outside the Mumbai Police Commissioner's office, demanding justice and exposing those allegedly shielding the culprits. They have also threatened to publicly name the alleged conspirators, along with evidence, on May 1. Sachin's wife, Anupama, reiterated the family's accusations, stating that despite having proof, the police have backtracked on their assurances. 'We will not end our hunger strike until the main accused are behind bars,' she said. Meanwhile, a senior Crime Branch officer said, 'We have made arrests based on available evidence and filed a charge-sheet. Under section 173(8) of the CrPC, further investigation remains open should new evidence emerge.' The political angle to the murder was earlier flagged by senior NCP leader Chhagan Bhujbal, who had urged the Mumbai Police to ensure an impartial probe, citing Sachin's long-standing political activism in the area.
