T20 Mumbai League: Prithvi Shaw Leads North Mumbai Panthers To First Win
North Mumbai Panthers, led by Prithvi Shaw, secured their first victory of the T20 Mumbai League 2025, defeating ARCS Andheri by five wickets at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Friday. Shaw set the tone for the match with a brisk 33 runs off 23 balls, while his opening partner, Divyaansh Saxena, contributed significantly with a score of 36 runs from 31 balls. In the third match of the day, the MSC Maratha Royals triumphed over the Eagle Thane Strikers by six wickets at DY Patil Stadium, thanks to impressive half-centuries from skipper Siddhesh Lad and Chinmay Sutar. Earlier in the day, in a marquee showdown between India's white-ball stars, Shreyas Iyer's SoBo Mumbai Falcons edged out Suryakumar Yadav's Triumphs Knights Mumbai North East by four wickets in a tense T20 Mumbai League 2025 Season 3 encounter here on Friday. Put in to bat, the Knights struggled on a pitch offering seam movement, managing 145/5. After a shaky start and Suryakumar's early dismissal for 1 by Kartik Mishra, opener Siddhant Adhatrao held firm with a gritty half-century. He shared a 46-run stand with Suryash Shedge before falling to Nikhil Giri. Suryash (49* off 21) and Makarand Patil (13*) added a late flourish, stitching an unbeaten 33-run partnership in the final overs. The Falcons' reply began on a shaky note with Hitesh Kadam removing Ishan Mulchandani and Shreyanssh Rai off successive balls. But Iyer (13) and Angkrish Raghuvanshi steadied the innings with a 54-run stand before Iyer was trapped LBW by Parikshit Valsangkar. Vinayak Bhoir (33) and Akash Parkar (30) then took control with a 56-run partnership that brought the Falcons within striking distance. Though Bhoir perished while accelerating, Parkar and Kush Kariya held their nerve to see the Falcons home with four balls to spare. Bandra Blasters pip Aakash Tigers by 1 run Bandra Blasters held their nerve to clinch a thrilling one-run win over Aakash Tigers in the opening match of Day 3 at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Friday. Led by a sharp spell from pacer Dhanit Raut (4/29), the Blasters overcame a gritty chase anchored by veteran opener Jay Bista's half-century. Chasing a modest 154, Aakash Tigers were rocked early, losing their top four for just 20 runs. However, opener Jay Bista staged a spirited fightback with a brisk 48-ball 55, featuring four fours and two sixes, to revive hopes. But once Dhanit Raut dismissed the in-form batter, the Tigers struggled to keep up with the required rate and eventually fell short, finishing at 152/8. Earlier, put in to bat, Bandra Blasters recovered from a shaky start to post a competitive total of 153. Om Keshkamat anchored the innings with a top score of 40, while Dhrumil Matkar chipped in with a valuable 33. For the Tigers, left-arm spinner Shams Mulani was the standout performer, picking up 3/12 in a tidy spell. Image: Instagram: Instagram/ All-rounder Atharva Ankolekar emerged the costliest buy as the T20 Mumbai League 2025 auction witnessed intense bidding wars in Mumbai on Wednesday, as eight teams spent ₹7.79 crores to build highly competitive 18-member squads. The T20 Mumbai League, one of India's leading franchise-based domestic T20 tournaments, is all set for a highly anticipated third season, scheduled to be played at the Wankhede Stadium from May 26 to June 8. Around 280 players went under the hammer as each team came up with a strategic approach to assemble a balanced squad comprising of a mix of young upcoming talent and experienced campaigners. The spotlight was on all-rounders, with 24-year-old Ankolekar securing the highest bid of the auction, to join Eagle Thane Strikers for ₹16.25 lakh. During the T20 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy final 2024, Ankolekar had played a significant role in Mumbai's victory. Musheer Khan, a member of the Punjab Kings squad, and Sairaj Patil were the other all-rounders who attracted mega deals of ₹15 lakh each. Musheer went to ARCS Andheri, while Sairaj was signed by Eagle Thane Strikers. Akash Parkar was the highlight from the 'Development Players' category as the all-rounder fetched more than five times his base price (2 lakh) to find a place in SoBo Mumbai Falcons for an impressive ₹11.25 lakh. 'You must have seen in 2018, Shivam Dubey had a terrific T20 Mumbai League season and then he went on to make a name for himself. Similarly, having such league for your state is I think a big boost for all the cricketers across categories. So I think it's a good thing and hopefully it [the league] happens every year and we get a lot of players,' said Suryakumar Yadav. Expressing his happiness after becoming the most expensive buy in the auction, Ankolekar said: 'I'm truly excited to play in the T20 Mumbai League and join Eagle Thane Strikers. It's a big moment for me, and I'm grateful for the trust the team has placed in me. I'm looking forward to sharing the field with players like Shardul Thakur. After BCCI's Sudden Sacking, Abhishek Nayar Joins This League As Mentor
Recently-sacked assistant coach of the Indian cricket team, Abhishek Nayar, and former India bowling coach Paras Mhambrey have joined the T20 Mumbai League 2025 as mentors. Nayar and Mhambrey have been appointed mentors for the Mumbai South Central Maratha Royals and ARCS Andheri, respectively. Their wealth of experience is expected to play a crucial role in guiding young talents throughout the season. Nayar was the assistant coach under head coach Gautam Gambhir and has recently been relieved from his duties, while Mhambrey was part of the team management led by Rahul Dravid. Nayar had earlier this week joined as an assistant coach at the Kolkata Knight Riders, a post he held till the end of IPL 2024. The duo are part of a stellar line-up of coaches and mentors announced by the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) on Saturday for the third edition of the highly-anticipated T20 Mumbai League 2025. Returning after a six-year break, one of India's premier domestic franchise-based T20 leagues has its third season scheduled to take place at the iconic Wankhede Stadium from May 26 to June 8, featuring eight teams. The coaching line-up features some of Mumbai's most seasoned names, with Omkar Salvi (SoBo Mumbai Falcons), Rajesh Pawar (ARCS Andheri), Atul Ranade (Triumph Knights Mumbai North East), Amit Dani (Mumbai South Central Maratha Royals), Prashant Shetty (Eagle Thane Strikers), Pravin Tambe (North Mumbai Panthers) and Vinod Raghvan (Aakash Tigers Mumbai Western Suburbs) named as head coaches of the respective franchises. The head coach of Namo Bandra Blasters will be announced later. 'As the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), we are committed to promoting and empowering our local coaches and support staff, ensuring they receive greater opportunities to grow and contribute not only to Mumbai cricket but also to Indian cricket. By nurturing homegrown talent, we aim to strengthen the foundation of our cricketing ecosystem and create pathways for sustained excellence,' said Ajinkya Naik, President of the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA). Recently, the MCA added star power to the league with the announcement of India's captain Rohit Sharma as the official face of Season 3. The T20 Mumbai League has served as a launchpad for emerging stars, with the likes of Shivam Dube, Tushar Deshpande, and Shams Mulani making significant strides in their careers after shining in previous seasons.
