6 more schools in Sahnewal constituency get Rs 58L for infra devpt

Sahnewal (Ludhiana): Housing and urban development minister Hardeep Singh Mundian dedicated infrastructure development projects worth Rs 57.63 lakh to six more govt primary schools in Sahnewal constituency Saturday. These include govt primary schools in Mangarh, Katani Kalan, Barwala, Bhaini Sahib, Raian and Katani Khurd. The initiative is part of Punjab's Sikhya Kranti to bring about a revolution in school education across the state. Constructing modern schools with smart classrooms, refurbishing the furniture, setting up state-of-the-art laboratories, well-equipped libraries, securing boundary walls, and ensuring the availability of clean drinking water are all part of the infrastructure upgrade. During the inauguration ceremony in each school, Mundian said the govt is spending Rs 2,000 crore on the transformation of schools under Sikhya Kranti, fulfilling its promise to overhaul Punjab's education and health sectors. Villagers said the new smart classrooms and boundary walls will make the schools a better place for learning. They thanked the Punjab govt for making children's education its top priority.

Ludhiana: Unified efforts against drugs must, says Mundian

Asserting that no stone would be left unturned until the drug menace is eradicated and traffickers are brought to justice, Punjab housing and urban development minister Hardeep Singh Mundian on Saturday called for unified efforts by people to ensure success of the state government's Yudh Nashian Viruddh (war against drugs) campaign. Addressing a district-level meeting of village and ward defence committees of Ludhiana in Mullanpur Dakha, Mundian said the campaign is set to become a transformative movement. The event, which saw the presence of several MLAs, party leaders, sarpanches and panches of villages besides defence committee members among others, saw the minister highlighting the government's crackdown on the drug supply chain with major traffickers arrested and their illegally acquired properties confiscated or demolished, a 'first in Punjab's history'. He announced plans to take the anti-drug campaign to every household, fostering a people's movement. He added that the campaign encourages youth to embrace drug-free lives and join this initiative. He alleged that the previous governments shielded traffickers for political gain. He urged the defence committees to organise awareness activities at the village and ward levels. 'Chief minister Bhagwant Singh Mann is safeguarding Punjab's interests, whether it is the issue of drugs or water rights. A special session of the Punjab legislative assembly has been called on May 5 to address these concerns,' he said while criticising the central government and Haryana for previously 'attempting to undermine Punjab's water rights and causing losses to Punjab's industries by granting concessions to neighbouring states'. During the meeting, Mundian administered a pledge to attendees, urging them to act as guardians of their communities and root out the drug menace. MLA Ashok Parashar Pappi issued a stern warning to drug peddlers: Abandon the trade or leave Punjab. He emphasised that the police have been empowered to act decisively, with many peddlers already jailed. Deputy commissioner Himanshu Jain, police commissioner Swapan Sharma, SSP (Ludhiana rural) Ankur Gupta and Khanna SSP Jyoti Yadav Bains underscored the collective responsibility in this fight, emphasising that collaboration between the administration, police and public is key to victory. MLAs Rajinderpal Kaur Chhina, Madan Lal Bagga, Kulwant Singh Sidhu, Hakam Singh Thekedar and Saravjit Kaur Manuke, alongside Punjab GENCO Board chairman Navjot Singh Jarg, district planning committee chairman Sharanpal Singh Makkar, AAP senior leader Dr KNS Kang, district president (rural) Gurdarshan Singh Kuhli, Drug De-addiction Front-Punjab zonal coordinator Sukhjit Singh among others were also present.

‘No spare water for Hry': AAP rallyists at BJP office in Ludhiana

A day after the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) directed Punjab to immediately release 8,500 cusecs of water to Haryana, leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), led by cabinet minister Hardeep Singh Mundian, staged a protest outside the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) office in Ludhiana on Thursday. The protesters were confronted by BJP supporters with Modi-Modi chants. During the AAP's protest, an effigy of Union minister of state for railways and food processing Ravneet Singh Bittu was burnt and the protesters, who were heading towards the BJP office, were stopped by police personnel. Cabinet minister Mundian said the Punjab government won't tolerate the BJP's efforts to 'snatch' water from the state through the BBMB. While speaking to mediapersons on the spot, Hardeep Singh Mundian said the Centre and the BJP governments of Delhi and Haryana had conspired against Punjab to snatch Punjab's water resource. He challenged the Punjab BJP leaders to clarify their stand and questioned their silence on this matter, calling it stabbing the state of Punjab in the back. Mundian said the central government and the neighbouring state of Haryana had already tried to 'rob' Punjab of its rights. 'The Centre has damaged Punjab's industrial sector by giving concessions to neighbouring states. Now, they have tried to rob the rights of the riparian state and such nefarious designs won't be allowed to succeed. The state government is committed to protecting the waters of Punjab and no one's interference in this matter will be tolerated,' he said. The MLAs said that the BBMB's directive to Punjab for releasing 8,500 cusecs of water to Haryana could lead to a crisis in Punjab. 'AAP will not allow a single drop of our water to be diverted to Haryana,' they emphasised. 'It risks disrupting Punjab's irrigation systems, severely impacting agriculture and potentially leading to an energy crisis due to effects on power generation. It will leave millions of farmers in distress,' Mundian stated. Among those present were MLAs Ashok Parashar Pappi, Madan Lal Bagga, Kulwant Singh Sidhu, Daljit Singh Bhola Grewal, Jiwan Singh Sangowal and Markfed chairman Amandeep Singh Mohi who said that diverting 8,500 cusecs of water could dry up canals, harm farmers and disrupt power supply, pushing Punjab towards darkness.

Join immediately or face action, Punjab govt warns transferred Tehsildars and Naib Tehsildars

A day after transferring 56 Tehsildars and 166 Naib Tehsildars across the state and asking them to join their posting immediately, the Punjab government on Tuesday warned of 'strict action' against those who failed to report to their new postings in time. Cabinet Minister for Revenue, Rehabilitation and Disaster Management, Water Supply & Sanitation and Housing and Urban Development Hardeep Singh Mundian said, 'Many officials have not joined their new postings. They should immediately report to their new postings, or else strict action will be taken against them.' Sources said Mundian issued warnings after receiving phone calls from a few Cabinet colleagues, informing him that several Tehsildars and Naib Tehsildars were not willing to join their new postings. He said Tehsildars and Naib Tehsildars were transferred in the wake of ongoing reforms in the revenue department. 'I will check revenue offices from tomorrow, and if anyone is found absent from duty during the surprise checking, strict action will be taken against the officer/employee concerned,' the minister warned, 'Indiscipline will not be tolerated at any cost.' Ensuring faster registration of sale deeds at district headquarters, registering over 50 sale deeds every day, the government posted two Joint Sub Registrars in 12 Sub Registrar offices in several districts. Also, the state government is undertaking to reform the revenue department as Sub Registrar offices are considered 'dens of corruption'. The AAP-led government, in its fresh crusade against corruption after the party lost the Delhi Assembly elections, had transferred 58 tehsildars and 177 naib tehsildars and divested them of registration work on March 5. Another massive rejig was done on Monday. 'The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, is committed to providing better administrative services to the people. There will be no compromise on administrative services being provided to the people. Hence, undue harassment of people at revenue department offices will not be tolerated,' Mundian warned officials. A revenue department officer said a confusion was created after two revenue officials were posted at one place with no addition infrastructure to accommodate the second one. 'For instance, in Ludhiana, there is an office for only one Sub Registrar, but two officials have been posted as Sub Registrar and Joint Sub Registrar. In Ludhiana East, Ankush Singh has been posted as Joint Sub Registrar-I, Ludhiana East, and Arshpreet Kaur has been posted as Joint Sub Registrar-2 in Ludhiana East. There is confusion, as there is only one place for posting. How will these two officials join when there is no infrastructure and there are no separate offices? The work of a Sub Registrar means creating an ID online, which is a huge responsibility. These problems are being faced, and the minister is saying they should join immediately,' the officer said. However, a senior government officer said most of the transferred officers joined their new postings. 'Those who do not have an office have been asked to report to the Deputy Commissioner concerned about their postings. If there is a problem, the DC is responsible for providing infrastructure to them,' he said. The officer added that in Ludhiana alone, at least 120 sale deeds were registered every day. 'The work is being streamlined in such offices. Similar is the case in Kharar, Mohali, Zirakpur, Ludhiana West, Ludhiana East, Ludhiana Central, Amritsar I and Amritsar II, Jalandhar I and Jalandhar II, Patiala and Bathinda offices. All these offices see more than 50 sale deeds being registered every day. Hence, two Joint Sub Registrars have been posted in all these places.'
