Ludhiana man sentenced to life for murdering mother after argument over food
Ludhiana: A local court sentenced a person to life imprisonment for the murder of his mother after an argument with her over food. The court of additional sessions judge (fast track court) Sandeep Singh Bajwa also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the convict. On Oct 15, 2017, Shimlapuri police booked the accused, Munish Kumar of Paras Ram Nagar, Bathinda, currently residing in Shimlapuri, under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Court for killing his mother. According to the prosecution, on that date, Chander Parkash, the complainant, recorded a statement with the police that they are two brothers and three sisters. His younger brother, Munish Kumar, aged about 25 years, was unmarried and was unemployed for the past three years. Their father is a retired railway employee and works in AC Market. Munish often argued with their parents when asked to find work and would even beat their mother, Raj Rani. On Oct 14, 2017, their father went to Bathinda, and he left for work at 12 noon. At home, only their mother, Raj Rani, and Munish were present. Around 9.27pm, the complainant received a call from Munish who confessed that around 3pm, he argued with their mother over food. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo When she refused to give him food and taunted him, Munish, in anger, pushed her into the bed box and slit her throat with a sharp iron saw blade. The complainant rushed home and found his mother's dead body inside the bed box with her throat cut. He informed their father and other relatives and requested the police to take legal action against Munish. Police booked the accused for murder, later arrested him, and after completing the investigation, presented a chargesheet against him in court. During the trial of the case, the accused pleaded false implication and claimed he never committed the murder of his mother. The court, after appreciating the evidence on record, held that the circumstances presented by the prosecution establish a clear and continuous chain of events, indicating that the accused, Munish Kumar @ Maanshu, was the last person present with the deceased, Raj Rani. It observed that this is supported by the testimony of the complainant, Chander Prakash (rosecution witness 1), and other circumstances. "The accused has failed to offer any explanation regarding the injuries sustained by Raj Rani, including the fatal throat slit, nor has he produced any evidence to support his defence. These factors collectively point to the conclusion that the accused is responsible for the murder of Raj Rani," the court observed. It held that, therefore, the issue is decided in favour of the prosecution and against the accused. MSID:: 121491595 413 |
