‘Housefull 5' trailer: Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan, Riteish Deshmukh are murder suspects in this laugh riot
Producer Sajid Nadiadwala on Tuesday (May 27) unveiled the trailer of Housefull 5, the much-awaited fifth instalment of one of the most successful comedy franchises in Indian cinema. Starring Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan and Riteish Deshmukh, alongside a star-studded ensemble, the film is set to release in theatres on June 6. Notably, the film is set to feature two different climaxes that will be interchangeably played out at different shows. The trailer opens with a voiceover by Nana Patekar's character, who says how a billionaire, Ranjeet Dobriyal, is throwing a party on a yacht for his 100th birthday. At the party, Dobriyal virtually announces 'Jolly' as the heir to his empire. The problem? He has three sons — Jalabuddin (Riteish), Jalbhushan (Abhishek), and Julius (Akshay) — who all claim to be Jolly. In an unexpected twist, Dobriyal turns up dead, and the three are suspected of murdering their father, an investigation that takes a hilarious turn when they reveal that their drinks were spiked the night before, and so they don't remember a thing that had transpired. To help with the case, two expert cops (played by Sanjay Dutt and Jackie Shroff) are called in. The rest of the almost four-minute-long trailer promises a hilarious murder mystery comedy that is in the vein of Knives Out, Murder Mystery and The Afterparty. In a statement to the press, writer-producer Sajid Nadiadwala said he has been thinking about the story of Housefull 5 and the idea of having two different climaxes for the last 30 years. 'I've always wanted to make a thriller, and the idea finally came to me 3–4 years ago, right after I finished writing Housefull 4. I wrote the story and screenplay myself, and it's truly a dream come true. What makes this film unique is that different shows will have altogether different killers and climaxes. Imagine a 3 PM show having one ending, and the 6 PM show having another - this is happening across single screens and multiplexes.' Directed by Tarun Mansukhani, Housefull 5 features a star-studded cast that also features Jacqueline Fernandez, Sonam Bajwa, Nargis Fakhri, Chitrangada Singh, Fardeen Khan, Chunky Pandey, Johnny Lever, Shreyas Talpade, Dino Morea, Ranjeet, Soundarya Sharma, Nikitin Dheer, and Akashdeep Sabir. The film was shot on a luxurious cruise that journeyed from London to France, Spain, and back to the UK. Housefull 5 is produced by Nadiadwala under the banner of Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment.

Housefull 5 trailer: Akshay Kumar gets slapped by monkey, Jackie Shroff makes fun of Tiger, movie copies Murder Mystery and Knives Out
Housefull 5 trailer: The trailer for Housefull 5, the fifth instalment in the hit comedy franchise, was unveiled on Tuesday ahead of its release on June 1. The comedy film has a massive ensemble cast, perhaps one of the biggest put together in recent memory. It is headlined by Akshay Kumar, with supporting roles played by Abhishek Bachchan, Riteish Deshmukh, and more. Housefull 5 is set on a cruise ship, and combines elements of murder mystery and horror comedy. Akshay has been a part of the franchise since its inception in 2010. The trailer opens with a voiceover by Nana Patekar, announcing the backdrop that the movie is set against. A billionaire is celebrating his 100th birthday on a luxury yacht, with a grand party. During the party, the billionaire wants to announce his will; already, Housefull 5 seems like a combination of the Adam Sandler-Jennifer Aniston movie Murder Mystery, and the Daniel Craig-starrer Knives Out. When the billionaire dies, the three heroes become the suspects. But the trouble is that somebody slipped something in their drinks, and they can't remember anything about their lives. To solve the mystery, Jackie Shroff and Sanjay Dutt are flown in. Also read – Paresh Rawal's lawyer accuses Akshay Kumar of not delivering Hera Pheri 3 screenplay, says his exit due to 'overall disorganisation' The trailer ends with a glimpse of the kind of humour that fans can expect, which includes Jackie Shroff making jokes at the expense of his own son, Tiger, and Akshay getting slapped by a couple of monkeys. Housefull 5 is Akshay's second major attempt at relying on franchises to steady his career. The first attempt, OMG 2, proved to be a rare hit for him, and it featured Akshay in an extended cameo. The first song from the film, 'Laal Pari,' became a big hit online. The song's music video has accumulated over 60 million views on YouTube, reinstating Yo Yo Honey Singh's stature as a hit-maker. The four previous instalments have been directed by Sajid Khan and Farhad Samji. They've made a combined total of around Rs 800 crore worldwide. Directed by Tarun Mansukhani, who previously directed the films Dostana and Drive, Housefull 5 also features Sanjay Dutt, Fardeen Khan, Shreyas Talpade, Nana Patekar, Jackie Shroff, Dino Morea, Jacqueline Fernandez, Nargis Fakhri, Chitrangada Singh, Sonam Bajwa, Soundarya Sharma, Chunky Pandey and Johnny Lever. Poirot's on his hols, but all we get is a dreary lecture on the evils of empire: CHRISTOPHER STEVENS reviews last night's TV
Travels With Agatha Christie & Sir David Suchet (More4) Sir David Suchet on a surfboard is quite the mental image. In a striped 1920s bathing costume, the great thespian would be a picture of Hercule Poirot on his holidays. But as the first episode of his Travels With Agatha Christie (More4) took him to Cape Town, the producers fluffed this glorious opportunity. Instead, they obliged him to embark on a dreary circuit of apologies for Britain's heinous imperial past. Sir David, who played the pompous little Belgian detective for 25 years on ITV, was eager to trace Dame Agatha's footsteps around southern Africa. In 1922, she accompanied her husband Archie on a world tour, to champion the forthcoming British Empire Exhibition in London. Her first crime novel, The Mysterious Affair At Styles, had just been published, and Mrs Christie was eagerly soaking up atmosphere for her story The Man In The Brown Suit. On the voyage to the Cape, she took her notebooks and typewriter, and was inspired to send her heroine Anne Beddingfeld on the same sea journey — beset by spies, murderers and jewel thieves, of course. Like Agatha, in Cape Town the actor marvelled at Table Mountain: 'It's as though someone's come along with a big knife and just taken the top right off.' But he ignored the coastline, and with it the chance to inject some real fun into this travelogue. Agatha was fascinated, she wrote, by the 'perfectly entrancing bathing . . . people had short curved boards and came floating in on the waves. 'Surfing looks perfectly easy. It isn't. I got very angry and fairly hurled my plank from me. Nevertheless, I would not be beaten. Quite by mistake I got a good run on my board, and came out delirious with happiness. Surfing is like that. You are either vigorously cursing or else you are idiotically pleased with yourself.' We learned none of this from Sir David, who trundled off instead for a series of lectures on how ghastly the 19th-century diamond tycoon Cecil Rhodes was. Three activists introduced themselves as the founders of the Rhodes Must Fall campaign, which succeeded in getting a statue of the former prime minister of the Cape Colony torn down — sparking a brief fad for statue toppling in Britain, too. Later, he visited Rhodes's home (where he admired a granite bathtub), a diamond workshop (where he admired a hefty sparkler) and Rhodes's grave in Zimbabwe's Matobo National Park (where he admired the view). This trivial tone rather undermined the lectures on injustices inflicted by the British Empire. Anne Beddingfeld, in The Man In The Brown Suit, does actually visit the grave, which means Agatha must also have seen it. Bizarrely, the documentary didn't mention this. By now, the author's travels had been relegated to a footnote in a biography of Rhodes — a man she never met. Sir David did take a moment, though, to buy a wooden giraffe from a stall. Agatha Christie had one just like it, apparently.
